So Bullets & Bandages is out and the NQ Aged lets you start out play a bit older than the usual cubs new on the streets.

The age brackets seem to have Humans in mind, which makes sense as they are the baseline with an average lifespan of 65 years, but for the others it does need tweaking.

so the levels for the NQ go 1st level ages 50-59, second level  ages 60-69, third level for ages 70+. .

Now if we want to tweak this for other metahumans, what would be the best brackets??  This is assuming born fully expressing as their metatype and not goblinizing later since those tend to get closer to a regular human lifespan but not exactly.

Dwarves list out at over 100 years, but not really clear on how much longer is the potential average, so maybe raise the starting point a little and stretch each block a bit.
1st level 80-99, 2nd level 100-119, third level 120+    Edit:  assuming a spike baby for this as the current crop shouldn't normally be this old otherwise.

Orcs being short lived get it rough and getting old starts even sooner.
1st level ages 25-34, 2nd level ages 35-44, third level ages 45+

Trolls are a little closer to the human norm but still seem to suffer ages grip a bit sooner
1st level ages 40-49, second level  ages 50-59, third level for ages 60+.

Elves are the tricky one since its several hundred years potentially and unless they were a spike baby there is little chance of a an elven pc even coming close to being aged, but hey it can happen.
We fall back on the older books (including ED stuff) and use 300 years as the average. also the size of the blocks probably need to stretch a bit.
1st level ages ages 225-274, 2nd level 275-324, 3rd block is 350+

How does this seem or does anyone have better suggestions for this?  The elves especially is sort of up in the air given the lifespan potential.

Do you believe in a greater WIRELESS, an Invisible(WiFi) All Seeing(detecting those connected- at least if within 100'), All Knowing(all online data) Presence that we can draw upon for Wisdom(downloads & updates), Strength (wifi boni) and Comfort (porn) or do you turn your back on it  (Go Offline)?

I did mention the necessity of being a spike baby for elves and have gone back to include similar  comment for 2nd and 3rd levels of this NQ for a dwarf.

But otherwise how do you feel about the brackets themselves?

I do not recall in any of the books mention made of a dwarven spike baby, but it could happen.

@Medicineman, I recall on the topic of dwarven spike babies you mentioned there was an instance once in an infamous german novel,  which one was that?

The short (and totally unofficial answer) is: it depends.

Spike babies aside, I tend to think that the shortened life expectancies of certain metahuman races is a byproduct of social factors (SINlessness, poverty, crime, poor access to health care, etc).  So an exceptional ork or troll (such as those that become shadowrunners) might live to see the ripe old age of 50 or 60.  Elves and dwarves are a bit more problematic, since at 50+ they are still in their prime and shouldn't suffer the reduce physical attribute caps the way a human (or ork or troll) would.  Add Leonization to the mix and it gets even more convoluted.

I think to do it right you've have to take the each bracket and divide it by the average life expectancy of a human (65) then multiply that by the average life expectancy for the other races.  So:
50/65= 0.77 x [metahuman life expectancy]
60/65= 0.92 x [metahuman life expectancy]
70/65= 1.08 x [metahuman life expectancy]

But all that is a little beyond the scope of the book and would take way too much space to expound upon.  That's why there are gamemasters.   ;)

Oh, snap, I so have to take this NQ for Old Man Jones when I convert him to Prime Runner for Missions.

Does the book have the same text saying that it's not usable for Missions as previous Optionsbooks did?

Being a Spike Baby itself would be a positive Qual for itself (more Knowledgeskills f.E.)
:) useless because not applicable (just like a Bracket for inhabitable Planets outside of the Solar System)
I'd make it a Homo Sapiens Sapiens only quality

I don't remember a Dwarfen Spike Baby ,maybe its in one of the Novels I didn't read (I read 30+ of the 40 Novels then).it was mentioned in one of the Forums though. I wrote about that I played an elvish Spike Baby that looks like David Bowie ( its in the Pipeline to be converted to SR5, but not without a proper char generatoion method and not without good Surge Rules and a better list of Qualities!! )
I remember a Dwarfen City( beneath Berlin) from the 4th Age. And I know that there have been Smurfes (but alas, I never read it. It might have changed my impression on SR in General permanently and not for the better)

He who won't dance with Smurfes
