Complete Shadowrun Newbie, Adept Help

HI,
First time playing SR. From the little I know I think what I am looking for is a physical adept.  What I would like to have is links to the appropriate character builds.  I saw the link for the adept builds, but not sure which ones I should really be looking at. 

I would like to play a Hanuman Monk, that uses unarmed and a staff.  So builds that are in that vain would be appreciated. Thanks!

I don't think there are standardized builds around for that.
My suggestion would be:

A: Attributes, B: Race, C: Skills; D: Magic, E: Money

Have a look at Chummer 5, the character generator makes it very easy to create viable characters.
In general it's wise to only specialize in one melee skill and also have one ranged combat ability.

Probably attributes a, adept b, meta c (I think that's where hanuman are?) Skills d and resources e.
Boost your resources by spending 10 karma to get to 26k. Gives enough for weapons, armour, lifestyle, audio/visual, commlink and a moped.
Could drop the moped for a basic weapon focus for that staff. I like the telescoping staff with a weapon focus and the adept power that gives increased accuracy as you get a decent limit on a concleable melee weapon with good reach.
I'd pick up the martial art; quarterstaff fighting. There are a couple of techniques that are pretty fun.
Also pick up a mentor spirit, they give nice bonus powers for low karma investment and use any spare karma to round out your skills.
As for skills, clubs at y with a specialisation in staffs, a few ranks in pistols with an appropriate specialisation (tasers, semi auto etc) use your free adept skill for gymnastics and then get the basics of perception, etiquette etc with whatever you've got spare

Jepp, that allows you to change the priorities a bit (although it won't help you much since you have a pretty expensive race with Hanuman)

What Sum2ten means is: Priority A is 4, B is 3, C is 2, D is 1 and E is 0. You can mix and match until your count is up to 10 (e.g. A+A+C+E+E)

With Sumto10 you may be better off with Attributes B, Magic C, Meta B, Skills C, Resources E.  You don't have as good off stats, but a Metahuman Adept was never going to have the skill points to do much with them.  Skills C lets you round out your hit stuff and sneak around skills, which is where you're headed anyway.

Sum to 10 Human Physical Adept.  Personally, Attributes A; Magic B; Skills B; Resources and Metatype E.  Spend 10 Karma on Nuyen to get your Runner Basics, (Fake SIN, cheap vehicle, pistols and ammo, Armored Jacket, Ballistic mask). 

And I like Gun Adepts with a side of Social, so 6 Agility, 5 in Reaction, Intuition, and Charisma, 3 Body and Will, do what you can with Str and Logic.  Favorite gun skill, sneak, perception at 6, pick either shock gloves (unarmed) or Exotic weapon monowhip at 6 (an buy the Monowhip in a couple runs).  Influence Group at 5.  Then pick up Con, Palming, Locksmith, Gymnastics with your remaining skill points.

I like Exceptional Attribute Magic on Adepts at Chargen, others don't, YMMV.   Catlike is good, Alibi from Cutting Aces is a new favorite of mine as well, Hawk Eye.  All good choices.  You'll also have enough Karma to increase Edge if you want.

The downsides are you're potentially low to moderate on Edge and you've got no cool toys.  The good parts of this build are, you're real well rounded out of char gen and all you need is a couple runs to buy a few cool toys and every bit of Karma you get pretty much goes straight to initiation. 

Just me, really a Sum to 10 Physical Adept is difficult to go wrong.  Pick a thing, do that thing well, pick another thing, do that thing good enough, carry on.

Remember that this is a role-playing game. Making the character you really want to play is more important than being the most optimized character. If you really like the idea of playing a hanuman, then play a hanuman.

No ripping, some minor shuffling is recommended. 

Will and Body down to 3, Intuition up to 5. *or* Logic/Charisma to 2 and Intuition to 5.  Or any combo like that.  If you're going with a Str based melee weapon get Str to 5.  If go with the Monowhip drop Str to 3. 

Pick one Melee skill and max it out, move your Adept powers to match your weapon choice.  Buy a couple ranks in the other melee skills you'd like down the road.  You don't need to be Gurney Halleck out of the gate.

I'd put all 5 Group points into Stealth and pick up the Gymnastics skill.  Running and Swimming can just be a splash skill picked up with Karma some day.  And pick up a couple points in a social skill.  Any Social skill.  Drop Free Fall, you're not a paratrooper.  Drive skill should be picked up with Karma, not skill points.

Get an armored Jacket, no reason not to.

Shuffle Attribute Boost Body over to Agility. 

See what I did there.  Splash Swimming.  Drop Free Fall.  I crack myself up.    :P

Attribute Boost Body is just 1 extra dice of Soak.  You can get  5 more dice of Soak for about 1000 nuyen by trading in the Armored Vest for an Armored Jacket and Helmet.  Just sayin'.  About every action you'll ever take with this character is going to be Agility.  +1 dice to 90% of what you do is good.

I encourage maxing out the Negative Qualities if you can find some that work for your character. 

Free Fall is for rappelling and parachuting and are unopposed tests with moderate thresholds  (tl;dr you don't need many dice).  Gymnastics is Parkour.  And there are cheap Adept powers that do all of these better that make good Qi Foci powers.

Oh, and you lowered your Agility.  Don't do that, max it out, Drop Str, Logic or Cha down by 1.  You'll be using Monowhips and Shock Gloves it looks like so you don't really need a high Str for anything other than Flexing. 

Again, just minor tweaks, but it's really expensive to go from 5 to 6 in a stat, and Skill points are a precious thing for Adepts because you're likely to be spending Karma on initiation and cool magic stuff so your Skill lists won't change much with advancement.
