Title: [SDS OOC] Agri-Vation
Post by: Jayde Moon on <11-08-15/1451:55>
Quote from: The Deal

Find out who attacked Shiawase Towers.  Stop them before they strike again.

Pay is 10,000¥ each.  1,000¥ is offered up front, leaving 9,000¥ upon completion.
Half of damages up to 2,500¥ has also been offered.

Please use the IC post for narratives only.

All dice rolls, questions, character intents, and just discussion should take place here.

For Dice Rolling, please create an account on Orokos (http://orokos.com/roll/).  The format to roll dice for Hits on 6s is #d6t5 < for x 6 sided dice with a target of 5.  If you pre-edge, then to get the 'exploding 6s' the format is #d6h5.  When you roll those dice, the result will have it's own specific url.  Please note your dice rolls here thus:

Automatics ## Dice Pool: x Hits  / x for Smartlink, -x for Darkness <--- where x Hits is the text in the url, written thus: [ url = http://orokos.com/roll/341359 ] 1 Hit [ / url ] (Remove the Spaces for bbcode); and the text behind the slash are any modifiers you included.

In the IC posts, please adopt the use of colors to indicate matrix 'speech', 'thought', 'astral communication', etc.  You can find examples of this in other games, but it looks like this:

Quote
What the frag! thought Crystalzine as the bullets whizzed overhead.

"We got to get out of here," Tomahawk said, pulling back.

Crystalzine nodded and called Grigor.

<<Grigor [Crystalzine] Bring that truck around, there is too much heat, we need an extraction.>>

I use Red for speech, Green for Matrix Texts, discussion, Blue for Thought, Orange for Astral Communications, but no one is tied to those colors or even required to use that formatting at all, it's just a request.

I will try to post EVERYDAY.  That's whether others post or not.  If someone isn't posting and we need them to post, I will post for them to keep the game moving.  This will include making calls on using edge.  If this gets to be a normal thing, I will then assign your character to another player in the group.  If you are out for several weeks without letting us know you are going to be back, I will assume you have quit and may take that opportunity to add some drama to the game in the form of dead or dying team members.

With all  of that, welcome to the OOC!

Roll to plot a course across town, such that VanGuard can make it to the meet site a little early so his Fly-Spies can get a once over of the area.  Ideally about 15-30 minutes early if possible.  He of course i driving within the legal limits, so as to minimize any unwanted attention.

Summon a force 5 spirit of man:

Summoning 12 Dice Pool: Summon force 5 spirit of man (http://orokos.com/roll/341580): 12d6t5 2
Spirit resist: 5 dice pool: Spirit f5 resist (http://orokos.com/roll/341587): 5d6t5 0 (results in drain 2)
    = net hits 2

Drain resist 12 dice pool vs drain x: summoning drain resist 12 dice (http://orokos.com/roll/341583): 12d6t5 5
    2-5 = 0 drain taken

(lost most of this message one time already, and had to go back to re-roll resist (still had the page up for drain).  future reference, pop up separate windows for each roll, and keep them up until the message is successfully posted)

and both OOC and off-topic: has anyone had Lorde's song' Tennis Court' stuck in their head since reading the opening post?

Then, in the park, (and I can ret-con that if she wouldn't have gotten there in time), preparing two mind link preparations, both force 3 with contact triggers (=drain 3)

First roll, 8 dice pool: alchemy: first mind link (http://orokos.com/roll/341779): 8d6t5 3
Resistance of 3 dice from the spell: alc sp res (http://orokos.com/roll/341780): 3d6t5 2
     Drain: 12 dice pool vs drain 3 alch drain 1 (http://orokos.com/roll/341782): 12d6t5 7
Hence: force 3, potency 1, take no drain

Second roll, 8 dice pool: alch mind link 2 (http://orokos.com/roll/341783): 8d6t5 5 limited to 3 by spell force
Resistance of 3 dice from the spell: alch mind link 2 spell res (http://orokos.com/roll/341785): 3d6t5 0
Drain: 12 dice pool vs drain 3 alch mind link 2 spell res (http://orokos.com/roll/341786): 12d6t5 6
Hence: force 3, potency 3 , take no drain

And then searching for the meet.
Forty/perception: 8 dice pool 40 perception (http://orokos.com/roll/341787): 8d6t5 1
Spirit (if a roll is needed?) Asensing pool of 11 spirit asensing (http://orokos.com/roll/341789): 11d6t5 7
Spirits to the rescue again, hopefully?

I'm not sure of the size of the park, this could be one service, or if it had to go too far it may be free now  Let me know and I'll update the status post appropriately.

Also ... good lord, I'd never really thought about how much dice rolling mages had to do sometimes!  Next on-line character is mundane.  Well, maybe a regular adept :p

Vanguard is able to make it there without incident.

It takes just a few minutes to make the preparations.  Forty has the time.

Spirit searching the park if you come in on the side with the most people, the tennis courts are very obvious.  Picnic tables nearby are mostly empty except one where a hispanic male with a beanie and 'denim' jacket sits on the table with his feet resting on the bench.

I'll apologize in advance for the brevity of my posts as we get started, I'm traveling for work this week and fighting a bit of jet lag caused by a connecting flight being delayed.

Can anyone tell me how I can see my character sheet (not just the description) on the Obsidian Portal page?  Or should I just be working off of what I submitted for the time being?

VanGuard will do some mini-legwork while in transit and after he arrives a little early (aiming for 30 minutes early at most).  This "mini-legwork" will consist of:

I am waiting for the two who haven't posted in the IC thread yet to do so before I make any further posts there.

If finding parking with LOS is difficult, here is another Navigation roll to help find it: Finding Parking with "LOS" on meet (http://orokos.com/roll/341815): 13d6t5 7 hits - DP: INT (6) + Navigation (3) + Map specialization (2) + Orientation System Cyberware [wireless bonus] (2) // Limit: 9 / Mental (7) + Orientation System (2)

Spirit asensing Lucien, 11 die pool: F5 Spirt of Man asensing (http://orokos.com/roll/342424): 11d6t5 2

Summoning Bolt, spirit of Air force 6 (optional powers: fear, elemental attack)

Ouch!  Probably not enough to knock the swagger out of Forty, but maybe one day she'll be more careful about summoning big spirits.  Tracking post updated appropriately.

When you guys make expenditures and shoot bullets, etc, if it's easier to make the note on your placeholder rather than updating your actual Portal Character sheet every time, I'll roll it all up at the end of the run.  I'm happy entrusting you guys to do it yourself on your sheet, but then it's definitely up to you to do it without omitting anything!

Cool.

I was recently running Boston: Lockdown, it can even leave the GM feeling paranoid .... and for this first meet I'm kind of deliberately having Forty be a bit uneven.  She'll settle down in due course--do let me know if she's getting annoyingly over the top.(any of you).

Smell perception test 8 dice base pool -1 for stun damage: Smell perception test (http://orokos.com/roll/342703): 7d6t5 2

^^^^ Just a general check on the smells at the meet (presumably nothing unusual, but who knows).

In the interactions following this Forty will try to find opportunities to get everyone's scent, just in case it is useful later on.  I think the 'getting a sniff' part doesn't take rolls, more it is enabling memory checks later on (like saying "I take a good look at the courier, so that I'll recognize him if I see him again"), but let me know if you do want rolls for that part -- I'll put it in IC posts either way, just whether or not I add OOC rolls as well.
Title: Re: [SDS OOC] Agri-Vation
Post by: Jayde Moon on <11-11-15/1302:48>
Let's do a roll and subtract that from 6 to be the threshold of future memory tests for that person.  You can make a note somewhere of your thresholds to smell someone.

Also, those who know much about negotiating with Johnson's would know that initial information is sparse until the terms are negotiated, to keep folks who end up not taking the job from knowing too much.  Those of you playing characters who are less experienced, feel free to bumble around a bit.

Fantastic--that really helps me visualize things.

Would it clutter things up too much if people were able to add places from the 'review' thread in the Obsidian Portal forums?  (totally not a task of any urgency, just thought it could be neat).

Oh boy, dice rolls galore:

Sniff Henway: Perception 8 dice pool -1 (stun) Sniff Henway (http://orokos.com/roll/342757): 7d5t5 1
Sniff Lucien: Perception 8 dice pool -1 (stun) Sniff Lucien (http://orokos.com/roll/342759): 7d5t5 1
Try to notice if any of the dead shown looked like security, or otherwise dangerous:
     Perception 8 dice pool -1 (stun)  Observe slide show (http://orokos.com/roll/342760): 7d5t5 1

Think if this matches the M.O. of any criminal groups in Seattle that she’s familiar with
Knowledge: Seattle Criminal Underworld 10 dice pool -1 (stun) Underworld knowledge (http://orokos.com/roll/342761): 9d5t5 2

With her current penalty, Forty would be throwing 8 dice on negotiate, and since the dice are apparently saving up all their good roles for later I’m assuming that will yield one success  .  I sure hope someone else is better than that (else we should just take the deal before he lowers the offer!), but Forty can help with a teamwork test.

One more thing that Forty will think about, while dredging her memory about the criminal underground: whose territory would it be here in this park?

Underworld knowledge 10 dice pool -1 stun underworld knowledge: territory (http://orokos.com/roll/342800): 9d6t5 3

(will edit her IC post to reflect this)

Yeah, beta, orokos is not the kindest dice roller, but it keeps a log we can link to.

Anyway, most of the dead look like wageslaves, but a few look like mall cop level corpsec.

It doesn't match the MO of any one you can think of.

That said, Triads do a lot around Tacoma, but the docks there are popular for every one.

Anyone making assist on negotiation can queue up rolls now.

Assist negotiation:  9 dice pool -1 (stun) negotiate (http://orokos.com/roll/342811): 8d6t5 2

Added an IC post supporting this.  Some of the stuff Forty says in there don't actually make a lot of sense, but not all negotiation is the cool, rational, kind.

Also rolling to see if I can place anything from the images to what I know about gang, terrorist, corporate, etc. MOs to figure a place to start looking, assuming we take the job.

Perception (visual) to pick out anything odd or telling about the scene: Perception Test (http://orokos.com/roll/342879): 15d6t5 10 (8) hits / +1 from attention co-processor wireless and +2 from visual specialization // limit: 8 = mental (7) + attention coprocessor (1)

Knowledge roll about current events in the shadow world: Knowledge shadow news (http://orokos.com/roll/342881): 10d6t5 5 hits / +2 from news specialization // limit: 7

Knowledge roll about modus operandi for known criminal orginazations: Knowledge underworld (http://orokos.com/roll/342883): 6d6t5 3 hits/ no plusses // limit: 7

Results of these plus those of my previous post will be worked into my next narrative in the IC thread.

VanGuard is going to instruct his Fly-Spy that is over his shoulder to scan there area, using its MAD and Cyberware scanners, focusing on the 6 other people and to overlay any hits in his image link on the people.  He is primarily concerned with anything that might cause him harm.  He is connected to his RCC via DNI, fyi.  VanGuard also instructs his PAN to turn off all wireless functionality of his external gear: smartgun systems, Berwick Suit, etc; augmentation wireless functionality will remain on.

Fly-Spy perception roll: Fly spy 3 perception check (http://orokos.com/roll/343078): 9d6t5 3 hits / limit: 3 (sensor rating: 3)

Perception test to identify potential places of cover to run/dive to if needed (I am hoping that it is not going to come to that): Perception Test (http://orokos.com/roll/343079): 17d6t5 3 hits / limit: 10
dice pool & limit modifiers:

And finally, a pre-emptive ettiquette roll incase things do escalate to try and prevent things from devolving into violence: Ettiquette roll (http://orokos.com/roll/343084): 5d6t5 2 / limit: 5 - +1 limit from Berwick Suit. Edit: this should probably be a negotiation roll on second thought, but the dice pool is the same.

entirely OOC:  and that was with 2 successes on the teamwork test, imagine if she had glitched?

But more seriously, I'll tone her down, I've been having fun writing her this way, but it is disruptive to smooth running of things.  She'll still be Forty, she'll just learn a little bit from this experience.

But there is one thing to get through first:  Lucien just insulted her, she's a Thunderbird shaman, and while she has 12 dice to meet a threshold of 3 to resist responding in kind, Orokos hasn't been kind so far.   Actually, speaking of, I guess it is 11 dice, due to the stun damage.  I will presently roll that and figure out if she will be the quickest self-destructing character in SdS, but I have to jump on a call now.

OOC & OT: I'd say she glitched her summon "Spirit of Riggs" Bad Cop routine, because it went to 11.  That was a reference to Lethal Weapon btw.

Just OOC: Waiting for that CHA + WIL roll to see if drek hits the fan.   If she can just survive the initial meet, we can hash things out as a group and maybe make sure your character is otherwise occupied the next time we meet with the Johnson. ;)

While this call is going through a wah-wah-wah stage, was reviewing roll history, and realized I'd rolled 10 rather than 12 dive on drain resist for summoning the air spirit (and here Orokos just showed its value, as you can see all your rolls--but then I saw it in my post here too, quoted below).  While won't change any other rolls that have happened from then to now, is it OK to roll the other two dice, see if I get the hit to keep her below penalty range?  (Yes--obviously hoping to have the extra die to help Forty resist finishing her self destruction.)  If it is "what is done is done" then fair enough, but it seemed worth asking.

Summoning Bolt, spirit of Air force 6 (optional powers: fear, elemental attack)
     Summoning pool 16: summoning Bolt (http://orokos.com/roll/342438): 16d6t5 5
    Bolt's resistance pool 6: Bolt resisting summons (http://orokos.com/roll/342439): 6d6t5 2
Drain resist 12 dice pool: resist drain (summoning) (http://orokos.com/roll/342440): 10d6t5 1

missing two drain dice from summons (http://orokos.com/roll/343241): 2d6t5 1

So at 2 stun, not 3, so no penalty.

The first 11 dice:  Resist Thunderbird temper (http://orokos.com/roll/343224): 11d6t5 2

and the missing die, due to the above: 1 extra die to resist Thunderbird (http://orokos.com/roll/343245): 1d6t5 0

=2, with a required threshold of 3.

Drek.

The creative thinking part of how to deal with that role I'm probably not going to be able to do while on this call.  Forty will go into a slow burn for a bit, so anyone else feel free to respond to Lucien IC, and I'll have that response up by tomorrow.  Tonight if it is gnawing at me too much to let me sleep.

Use Vanguards intervention as an excuse to edge her resistance roll
     edge resist thunderbird (http://orokos.com/roll/343450): 11d6t5 6
(sure, now I get the good roll when I only needed one more die.  Well, Forty better smarten up for the rest of the run, because that was all the edge she had)

Use the mindlink preparation on Vanguard
     use mindlink F3P1 (http://orokos.com/roll/343449): 4d6t5 2

And my apologies for going way over the top earlier.  My first draft of that was much more reasonable, but by the third .... well you saw where I took it.  Mental note:  don't let myself have TOO much fun writing Forty.  And if lack of remaining edge frags her later, so be it.  Let's get this back on track, sorry for the distraction.

Ravener finds a few newslinks on an attack at Shiawase Towers in Tacoma.  There is little information on the attack as Shiawase has exercised it's Corporate Extraterritoriality to block out media and aid.  Media outlets are assuming that Shiawase wants to handle this internally, somehow.  There are no clues as to who, how, or why.

If nobody has a place that they'll invite everyone to, to meet more privately, then VanGuard will suggest (in the IC thread) that we all meet at a club and that he has equipment to confound attempts of outside parties to observe. He has a noise generator as well as an area jammer.

As Henway said in the IC thread, clock is ticking on the group checking out the scene.  I'd suggest doing that on the fly, then they review everything afterwards?  (btw, Henway introduced himself  to Lucien with "Stone sent me" without mentioning his name--that is why Forty asks it in the IC thread).

To follow up on my IC post: Despite the overall attitude, Forty knows she will mostly be supporting experts here.  She's willing to let Kachina call the shots on magic, in fire fights is happy to have direction from anyone who knows tactics beyond "fill them full of bullets before they do the same to you," and so on.  Character sheet summary is under spoiler tags in my past near the top of this thread.

Of course, in play by post, waiting for instructions from others could slow things down at times, so I'll see how this works out.  She might get more uppity again if this plan turns out to be too slow.

Let's get a composure roll from everybody as they initially come across the smell of blood and the various mangled, bullet riddled bodies, the stench of shit and piss, etc:

4 Hits: Null sheen, chummer
3 Hits: Yeah, that's disturbing, but all in a day's work
2 Hits: You feel a bit queasy in the gut
1 Hit: You need to excuse yourself or you're gonna be sick.
0 Hits: Good thing the meet with Mr. Johnson wasn't a lunch meet, because you just lost yours.  Right there.  Immediately.  Do not pass go.  Etc.

I give you a day to RP the results.

Getting a touch out of narrative order:  before getting out of Ravener's ride, try to memorize his scent:
     Sniff Ravener (http://orokos.com/roll/344179): 8d6t5 4

Then de-activate heightened sense of smell before going in, to be on the safe side

Composure test once inside:
     Composure (http://orokos.com/roll/344181): 12d6t5 7 -- Apparently today Orokos likes me! :p

Once inside for a bit and deciding it really isn't that bad, re-activate heightened sense of smell, and scan the room (without exploring yet), just to get a general sense of the place.

If needed:
Visual scan:
     Visual scan (http://orokos.com/roll/344183): 8d6t5 3

Initial sniff for any smells beyond the blood (gun powder?)
First sniff of the massacre site (http://orokos.com/roll/344184): 8d6t5 2 -- Sigh, RNG is always a fickle friend.

ETA:

WillAsher: No pressure on Ravener.  But since Jayde Moon kindly sent Forty right into a piece of her backstory, figured I should do something with it.  I really don't expect that you'll be into their system, so consider that offer to be role-play fluff.

Turkish: While Forty doesn't have high regard for humans, OOC don't worry about her opinion too much.  Forty will obey(ish) whoever is chosen as leader.

Jayde, I just noticed that the character sheet on the Obsidian Portal has me with a Knowledge Skill for Small Unit Tactics 2, and it should be Security Tactics 3, which was on the sheet I originally sent you.  Can that get changed, or was I missing something on my sheet?

Assuming yes, I'm going to roll that skill to assess how 'by the book' the Shiawase guards are handling the situation and if I notice anything unusual from them.   If no, then disregard the roll or let me know what I should roll in place of this.  Sorry if I'm confusing things, still trying to get used to the whole format - in past PbP games (not SR) I usually didn't roll dice unless the GM told me to.

Since that is the case, I will also roll Small Unit Tactics (VanGuard has Security Tactics), as well as Underworld, to try and correlate the carnage to known organizations' preferred assault tactics:
Small Unit Tactics Knowledge: Scene of Carnage (http://orokos.com/roll/344695): 8d6t5 2 hits / limit: 7
Underworld Knowledge: Scene of Carnage (http://orokos.com/roll/344696): 6d6t5 3 / limit: 7

Inclusive of what I stated in my prior post, I want to determine: how many assailants, how many points of entry, how many points of exit, and do the tactics used match known corporate military/criminal enterprise tactics.

After sending out data to the team and talking to the Lt, Ravener is going to closely examine the terminal of the man who died at the end.  I am looking for anything suspicious about the terminal, or any particularly clean spots (may have been cleaned up later, or had something removed).  Perception 7d6t5  1 hit  (http://orokos.com/roll/345153)

After that I am going to see if I can tap into the station to see what was last done on it.  Wiring in directly.  Do you need to do this for me as a hack?  If so I can make rolls against it, unless it sounds like they will let me into the terminal directly.  Will follow through when I know how you want to handle it.

Also, is there video that shows the floor reasonably well?  The attackers murdered a lot of people in a bloody way, can I see footprints or anything like that in the video.  I assume that the floor now has been walked through by a bunch of people, but they should have at least taken pictures of it before they did that.

Sounds like the group still has some time, so going ahead with alchemy:

Increase Logic, F3
     Alchemy-inc logic F3- cast (http://orokos.com/roll/345961): 8d6t5 5 limit of 3 = 3 successes
     Alchemy-inc logic F3- spell resist (http://orokos.com/roll/345962): 3d6t5 1
     Alchemy-inc logic F3- drain (http://orokos.com/roll/345964): 12d6t5 3 versus drain of 2 = no drain taken
          gives a F3P2 preparation

Increase Will, F4
     Alchemy-inc Will F4- cast (http://orokos.com/roll/345965): 8d6t5 3 limit of 4, so 3 successes
     Alchemy-inc Will F4- spell resist (http://orokos.com/roll/345966): 4d6t5 2
Alchemy-inc Will F4- drain (http://orokos.com/roll/345967): 12d6t5 2 versus drain of 3, so takes one more stun, going to 3 total.  Doh!
         gives a F4P1 preparation

Then goes to where the "couldn't quite place it" smell was strongest, and pops both preparations.

Use logic preparation: Use logic preparation (http://orokos.com/roll/345977): 6d6t5 1
Use Will preparation:  Use will preparation (http://orokos.com/roll/345979): 5d6t5 2

After which she tries to remember the smell. Not rolling anything, because I figure this is one of those things that maybe no way she can remember it, because of the results of the earlier perception test were what led to the "can't quite place it" result, rather than it actually being a memory thing.  But I figure worth a try, since she didn't have any other ideas.  (FWIW, what all of this feverish rolling results in is +2 dice on a memory test, and she is tired.  Ah well.)

I would like to search for any major changes (closings, renovations, openings) for Greenfields in recent times, including ones only announced internally.  Matrix Search 8d6t5  3 hits  (http://orokos.com/roll/346596).  After that, I flip on Baby Monitor to see my OS.  If it is still less than 20 (should be), I then look for Peter Spears' personnel files. Matrix Search 8d6t5  3 hits  (http://orokos.com/roll/346597).  Once I find it I try and get a mark:  Hack on the Fly 15d6t5  4 hits  (http://orokos.com/roll/346599).  If I have sufficient net hits, I use 2 to determine if there is a data bomb.  If not, I do a Matrix Perception: 8d6t5  2 hits  (http://orokos.com/roll/346600) one for is there a data bomb, another for rating of bomb (or if not, last time accessed).  Then I disarm the bomb (if present) Preedge 9d6t5  3 hits  (http://orokos.com/roll/346601)  o hits on reroll  (http://orokos.com/roll/346601).  I then copy the file over:  13d6t5  6 hits [url].  After then I jack out and reset.

Note:  If I get a mark on myself, I jack out and reset. (http://orokos.com/roll/346603)

There are eleven Greenfields locations.  None of them are in Seattle, in fact, non of them are in any Major City, they have addresses that correspond to rural areas.  There is nothing on Mr. Spears workstation that indicates when they opened or closed.  Going into the main Host for that will require a further search roll and then you'll need to mark the file itself.

Baby monitor is fine.

Peter's personal files are on his workstation, his PERSONNEL files will be on the main host, and you find it.  You get the MARK, there is no data bomb (you don't spend edge), then you copy over the file.

You may not jack out if you are looking for information on the main Host about Greenfields, like I said, additional search and Hack on the Fly will likely be needed for that.

For all of the above, please make an IC post describing your matrix foray, considering that the Host is sculpted to appear as a shopping center.

I have no IC post to make at this time.

Jayden, what would Kachina make of the sweetgrass scent? what would it be used for can she make a link between it and NAN heritage or a special tribe when combined with lavander?
Title: Re: [SDS OOC] Agri-Vation

Sweetgrass and Lavender are both commonly used by Amerindians.  Perfumes, deodorants, incense, etc.

The scents would, to Kachina, indicate not only Amerindian, but one who respects the culture.

From all of my perception checks, would I be able to determine approximately how many people came out of the van based off the boot prints? I assume that each individual will have differing gaits that would make it to where I could, upon examination, determine if prints A and prints B belonged to the same person or to separate individuals.  If so, let me know how many I am able to determine (as well as if I need to make more perception rolls) and I will include that in my next IC post tomorrow.

Matrix search for finding matching boot style(s): Matrix search for NFP boot match (http://orokos.com/roll/346980): 8d6t5 4 hits / limit 7

VanGuard went in with everyone, at the beginning of the scene, with his drones being controlled via AR. He went VR later, when he sent the one drone to the garage. He found a clean, comfortablish spot to sack out for that.

Search the host for information on Greenfields, especially anything in the last three months:  Matrix Search  5 hits  (http://orokos.com/roll/347692).  Hack on the Fly for a mark on data:   3 hits  (http://orokos.com/roll/347693), spending edge to reroll misses  5 more hits, total of 8  (http://orokos.com/roll/347694).  Use extra hits to determine if there is a data bomb, and its level if I have enough (4 net hits).  If a data bomb, disarm with preedge  4hits  (http://orokos.com/roll/347695) plus reroll  1 more hit, total of 5  (http://orokos.com/roll/347696).  Copy file  6 hits  (http://orokos.com/roll/347697).

Check baby monitor, if still ok then matrix search for Sylvia Sakamoto/Sylvia Peron starting around 11-13 years ago:  Matrix Search  4 hits  (http://orokos.com/roll/347698).  If I find a file, Hack on the Fly for a mark  hit my Sleaze of 8 hits  (http://orokos.com/roll/347700).  Check for data bomb and it's level with extra net hits.  If not, Copy File  4 hits  (http://orokos.com/roll/347701).  If that doesn't copy, it at least doesn't set off security.  Check baby monitor (needs to be less than 35), if so try again Copy File  3 hits  (http://orokos.com/roll/347702).  IF baby monitor still shows me good, try one last time Copy File  4 hits  (http://orokos.com/roll/347703).   After that is done, I am jacking out.  I will at least need to clear my OS before going back in.

Forty's most recent message to the team was just to start asking what people want to do next, since it feels like we've sucked most of the juice from the scene, other than the hacking part still wrapping up.

If Kachina wants to, can teamwork a final shake down of the lieutenant (Forty tosses 16 dice, I'd imagine Kachina is up there too -- Thunderbird and all), and push the guards for info.  Otherwise, do we go somewhere to discuss, split up until we hear back from contacts, etc ?

Forty is from up in Redmond, and her contacts in the southern part of the sprawl aren't the right kind for providing a quiet place for the team to talk.  If anyone has a good place let's go use it, otherwise can probably all squeeze into the van--although probably tight with two trolls--to plan what is next.

From a practical point of view, Forty is going to want to go home and pick up her gun before we go after anyone, and I think some of the others are in a similar situation--so we could give a few hours for people to hear back from contacts, run matrix searches, and go get gear -- then meet up again for the big planning session.  I'll go along with however the IC discussion goes (discuss immediately, later, or both).

Certainly we'll need something to work out, in order to figure what we are doing next.

BTW, I do apologize for the lack of transport on Forty.  With mystic adepts, PP can only be bought at character creation, and only with the use of karma -- which put a real squeeze on what she bought.  I tried to squeeze in at least a one point  driving skill and a dodge scoot, but it always meant either giving up a PP or a quality, and vehicles can be bought in play at no penalty.... so I decided I'd just have to annoy everyone in my first session.  In a real pinch, with spirit help she can probably jog faster than city traffic much of the time, but that isn't really subtle.  And I chose the wrong barrens for her to live in, so I apologize for the inconvenience.

Thanks Jayde Moon.

I was on my phone earlier, which is a pain to do the dice rolling on, so I held off using the Seattle Criminal Underground (street) knowledge until now, sorry about the two quick IC posts that resulted.

I'm going to roll the dice, but I don't know if there would be modifiers because the skill is pretty broad and this is pretty specific info (or that the skill may not apply at all, depending on who they are), so I'm expecting that what I roll may not really reflect what comes back.  (one of those spots where it is easier to handle modifications to rolls when face to face)

Seattle criminal underworld (street) knowledge 5+intuition 5:  Pool 10 dice Underworld street knowledge check (http://orokos.com/roll/349863): 10d6t5 3
so 3 successes if she can use her full dice.

To put some OOC parameters around the question of "who do we trust enough that we'll send them a picture of that ballistic (as part of tracing who the attackers were)?"

What loyalty rating would you like to see in those contacts?  Or would you rather we just discuss this IC and make our own judgement on who to contact?

(and I'm holding off on any new IC posts for the moment, waiting on responses.  Eventually I'll just go ahead and have Forty ping some contacts if we don't sort out guidelines)

2: Willing to do business with you

5 : A good friend, would hide a body for you if the dead guy was a real asshole
6 : Would die for you.

Thanks for the reference--I was thinking I needed to look that up when I got home!

To be clear, that question was aimed at the other players.  The question in our laps is: besides a matrix search, do we ask our contacts about that distinctive ballistic mask?  The concern being that word could get back to the other team that we are looking for them.  So, how much do we feel we need to trust our contacts before we ask them?  3? 4? 5?

This should be talked about IC, but I thought it would be useful to also keep in mind the mechanics.

re: the leader thing

I'm not against the leader thing, in concept, but I do have a concern.  (I should also admit I've never actually played a game with a designated leader, so the concept feels a bit strange to me, but I am willing to try something new--the strangeness to me is not my concern.)

My concern is that, say Jayde Moon posts at time T, the time that player A regularly has time to check on things and post is T+3 hours, but the time that the leader can regularly post is T+5 hours.  If player A waits for the post by leader, then their next post may be the next day at T+3, which is already after Jayde Moon's most convenient time, such that each cycle of events could well end up taking two days rather than one.  (or worse, Leader doesn't get a chance to respond until the next day at T-2, so almost nothing happens for nearly a day).

I'd like to hear from others who have done PbP with a formal party leader on how it worked out in practice?  I'm entirely willing to believe that I'm fretting needlessly if there is evidence pointing that way.  (It is also possible that I just need to be more patient .... and maybe J.M. could use the slower pace, given that he has four games on the bubble)

I'll respond IC once those who care to have commented here.
Title: Re: [SDS OOC] Agri-Vation
Post by: Yok on <12-11-15/1100:22>
I don't think it'll be too much of an issue, unless the designated leader is somehow unable to post regularly and there is some kind of conflict that needs to be resolved or decision that needs to be made and they are MIA.

I've not done a Shadowrun PbP before, but I have done others and generally speaking I think you post when you have time, it's 'your turn' (hopefully the term makes sense in this context), and you have something to say/do.  My experience with other games is that over time posts start to flow in a more organic way and it all works out, but I may have been fortunate in my past experiences so ymmv.

Hello guys,
Sorry for the lack of posting. Am at an long event in Vegas since Monday and until monday. Very little time for a post.

@Beta a leader is fine, being the leader doesn't mean being the one who always have to speak first nor last. It's more along the lines when choice is needed to be made he/she would have the final say. From my experience it's good as it can put an end to endless discussions about what to do or not do when no one is able to make up their mind. Also it's a good role playing opportunities as conflict and disagreements may happen but a leader will try to find a way to solve them. It in my mind solidify the team, as opposed to have a group of individuals together.

Sorry to the group on Forty's ammo-light status.  Problem with mystic adepts is they are so karma hungry that gear got squeezed really hard.  On some runs a couple of 30 round clips would probably be plenty, but as I said IC this could shape up to be quite the fight, and more ammo would give more options.

FWIW, two things I really wrestled over during character creation were:
- there is already a thunderbird shaman in the roster, maybe I should avoid that totem, but it is kind of central to the character ... oh, hey she is a prime runner, so Forty won't be in the same group as her!
- 60 rounds of ammo seems pretty low.  Ah well, most runs are about stealth and tactical strikes, not mass battles, so that should be OK.
- I can't afford a decent ID and a decent comm.  Well, most runs deal with infiltrating fairly civilized places and she can afford to go wireless off, so the ID will be the more important.

So far the first one I was wrong, the second one it looks like I was wrong, given which record I'm assuming we'll really need Ravener protecting our network but we'll be nowhere that ID matters much :D

@Beta: So you don't have to go looking up the rules, the shopsoft adds 1 to your limit for price negotiation and availability tests.

Thanks, I hadn't thought of it as anything more than a convenience, but I won't complain about a mechanical bonus

@Jayde Moon: the availability is normally done as charisma + negotiate.  As I mailed you about last week, there is that situational issue for Forty and negotiate -- how does that play into any such roll?   (I was thinking of making rolls and seeing how quickly stuff would be available)

-2 to negotiate with humans.  I'm not sure you had something else in mind?

Gear locating roll .... I'm not sure who it would be with (species-wise).  But I guess human would be the default.

Forty, if you can use pistol or rifle ammo I have plenty.  (just to make sure that you understand what Ravener is saying)  I have an extra sniper rifle if you can use it.

As far as searching the Matrix for clues on the unusual shoes and SMG, do you want matrix perception rolls?  Also, how tough is it to hack into traffic cameras near the site of the attack to try and get a license plate on the Van?  Same for GridGuide.
Title: Re: [SDS OOC] Agri-Vation
Post by: Beta on <12-16-15/0930:29>
Just to emphasize the last line of what Forty said IC, I'm not really suggesting we try to guess their target and find them by waiting there.  I'm hoping we can get a lead on the van and trace them that way, but on the one hand thinking about back-up plans (if we can get any clue of likely targets, perhaps we could find their surveillance of a site or person and back trace that, or if we can catch any of their associates, perhaps we could capture and interogate somebody?), and on the other hand putting in a post for the day during a period where Forty can't contribute a lot.

Once we get some sort of clue on where to look she can contribute a spirit to combing an area or watching a spot or whatever (basically an extra spirit for Kachina to add to the magical surveillance suite)

And while writing this up, I just had a thought about a contact who could potentially know someone who could be the start of a bread-crumb trail, if other things don't work out.  So will edit that onto the IC post when I get a chance.

WillAsher: I think machine pistols use their own ammo in SR5.  (will double check, but I think each class gets its own ammo), and that is all she has right now.  If she does get another gun then ammo shouldn't be much of a problem, whoever would sell the gun is almost certain to be able to sell the <100 rounds she's wanting to buy.

Took some time over lunch to dig up numbers on the gun & ammo shopping bit.

Short form: could use help from anyone who has a decent shot to beat a 4R rating.

Long form:
Forty's base dice pool for negotiation is nine dice, but when dealing with humans it drops to 7, and lacking a dwarven armorer contact or the like I'll assume humans in any acquisition roll -- which means she is not apt to find a 4R gun on her own without throwing money at it for extra dice, and she doesn't have the money to throw at the problem (limits are not a problem, her social limit exceeds her dice pool in most areas, it is just raw die pool size).

If anyone is willing to go looking or use contacts on her behalf, that would be great -- else she'll take a shot at just getting some ammo.  (and to note, this is a secondary thing, well behind finding the people who we may or may not need more and bigger guns to take down.  Only looking at it now because of the lead time on obtaining stuff.  Her machine pistol is honestly a fairly sweet little gun--it just doesn't have much range, so this is mostly about adding tactical options).

Gun shopping list:

First choice:
- Colt M23A assault rifle (avail 4R, 550Y)
- laser sight (avail 2, 125Y)
- spare clips: 2 AR and 1 MP (avail 4, 15Y)
- regular ammo: 80 AR and 30 MP (avail 2R, 220Y)
- gel rounds: 40 AR  (avail 2R, 100Y)

Second Choice (If no luck on the first choice.  In some ways worse than her machine pistol, except that it has decent range which the MP does not)
- Uzi IV SMG (avail 4R, 450Y)
- spare clips: 3 SMG and 1 MP (avail 4, 20Y)
- regular ammo: 80 SMG and 30 MP (avail 2R, 220Y)
- gel rounds: 30 SMG  (avail 2R, 75Y)

Third Choice (hopefully not a problem to get)
- spare clips: 2 MP (avail 4, 10Y)
- regular ammo: 60 MP (avail 2R, 120Y)

Fourth Choice (if clips end up being a problem -- at least she can re-load given some time)
- regular ammo: 60 MP (avail 2R, 120Y)

(Bizarrely, spare clips are as hard to get your hands on (in terms of availability, not restrictions) as an Uzi is, and quite a bit harder than the ammo that goes in them!  If I'd realized that, I'd have used that last 5Y I had left at character generation and stocked up on one more clip, even if she didn't have the ammo to fill it.)

The guns have a base acquisition time of one day, the rest of it I think is a base of 12 hours.  IIRC excess hits reduce the time to get the gear (but not positive on that -- haven't done a lot of this sort of gear stuff in my game, so don't remember the rules very well, and don't have the book here at work).

Ettiquette rolls for the two messages sent in my last IC post, well one for sure, the other if dealing with Yakuza won't be a problem.

Message to Joey: Ettiquette roll (http://orokos.com/roll/352646): 5d6t5 2 hits / limit: 4
Message to Kazama: Ettiquette roll (http://orokos.com/roll/352647): 5d6t5 1 hits / limit: 4

Edit:

If needed, here are also some Negotiation rolls.

Joey: Negotiation Roll (http://orokos.com/roll/352648): 5d6t5 2 hits / limit: 4
Kazama: Negotiation Roll (http://orokos.com/roll/352649): 5d6t5 1 hits / limit 4

Edit 2:

@Jayde: I am still waiting for Joey to send the contact info for the person who may have some info about the van, nuyen was attached to my reply to her last message.

Quick search of the Matrix to locate the host for the hotel and any other places nearby that have cameras facing towards the hotel.  Matrix Search: 10d6t5  4 hits  (http://orokos.com/roll/353856)  Also, what is the traffic cam server host rating?  Add in a matrix search for info on the hotel: Matrix Search 10d6t5  1 hit  (http://orokos.com/roll/353867)

Host rating 2 is rolling 4-6 dice against my 13+.  Just in case, Initial Mark on Host 15d6t5  6 hits  (http://orokos.com/roll/353991).  Run silent, enter host and make Matrix Perception:  8d6t5  2 hits  (http://orokos.com/roll/353992) therefore are there any silent icons in the host?  If so, what kind of icon is it?   Then search for room registry file: Matrix Search: 8d6t5  6 hits  (http://orokos.com/roll/353993).  Get mark on file: 13d6t5  6 hits  (http://orokos.com/roll/353994).  Copy file:  12d6t5  6 hits (hit limit)  (http://orokos.com/roll/353995).  Send file to teammates.  At this point, if there is someone running silent on the host I am going to notify the team and exit the host.  If not, Search for lock to appropriate room: Matrix Perception: 8d6t5  4 hits  (http://orokos.com/roll/353996) Find the door lock for their room.  Determine if there are any other marks on it.  Determine if there is a data bomb on it.  Determine last time it activated.

Let me know results and I will post IC

Summoning a force 6 beast spirit with optional powers of concealment and noxious breath

Summon (12 die pool, limit 6): Summon beast spirit (http://orokos.com/roll/354175): 12d6t5 7 counts 6 succeses
Spirit's resist (6 die pool, no limit): beast spirit resist (http://orokos.com/roll/354176): 6d6t5 3  (OK, spirits are being jerks to Forty this day!)
Drain resist vs drain of 6, (12 die pool, no limit):  resist summoning drain (http://orokos.com/roll/354178): 12d6t5 5 = 1 net drain or maybe all the virtual dice are just rolling hot?

Net result: 3 services, 1 drain (which takes 40 back up to three stun damage, and a -1 on everything)

Fortey my mafia family connection rating is 6 with an additional die for availability. i have a loyalty rating of three with them but honestly as a new player i have no idea how i would go about using them. But if any one would like to use Angus as a fence or source for restricted items he would be happy too. He also get a 10% price reduction all from the made man quality. He would likely like to make a little on the deal as well but it would likely be out of that 10% but that would be negotiated in post.

So, once we went back to a surveillance mode from a smash and grab mode, VanGuard will change the loadout on his RCC.  I will edit my post on the first page with the new loadout once I have made some rolls, which will be added to this post.

TL;DR: 10 hits / limit 10 for seeing the van approach the motel.

Fly Spy Team Perception Checks:
Fly Spy 1 team perception check (http://orokos.com/roll/354911): 10d6t5 2 hits / limit 3
Fly Spy 2 team perception check (http://orokos.com/roll/354912): 10d6t5 6 hits / limit 3 (boo limits on this roll :P)
Fly Spy 3 team perception check (http://orokos.com/roll/354914): 10d6t5 2 hits / limit 3
Total hits: 7 / limit 6 / 6 dice added to VanGuard's perception check

VanGuard's Perception Check:
Perception Test to detect van approaching motel (http://orokos.com/roll/354915): 23d6t5 10 hits
forgot to add correct amount of dice for Van's vision enhancement (http://orokos.com/roll/354916): 1d6t5 0 hits

Dicepool: 24 dice
Intuition + Perception + Visual specialty = 12
Perceptive 2 = 2
Attention Co-Processor = 1
Van's Sensors (vision enhancement 3) = 3
Fly Spy Team Perception check = 6

Limit: 10
Van's sensors = 7
Van's sensors (vision enhancement 3) = 3

I added 2 instead of 3 dice for the vision enhancement on the van's sensors on orokos, hence the roll for one extra die.  Apologies if this is too verbose, I figured with such a large dicepool, you'd like to see where it all came from.

To clarify Forty's IC post:

- we haven't done matrix perception on the room, I think?  Kachina did an astral sweep, but the don't think anyone did a matrix sweep.

- Forty doesn't trust humans. I don't think think there was an anti meta sentiment in the plan, but Forty will tend to see prejudice whether or not there is anything there.  Mostly she keeps those thoughts to herself,as seen there.  Take the karma for it, gotta play it :)
Title: Re: [SDS OOC] Agri-Vation
Post by: WillAsher on <12-26-15/2333:29>
Pretty sure I did a Matrix Perception, but this is a good time to do another.  Will do a check of the immediate area of the hotel: 10d6t5  4 hits  (http://orokos.com/roll/355040)  Use hits for finding silent running, if any then identify if icons are devices/personas...  If nothing, then adjacent  buildings (particularly rooftops) 10d6t5  3 hits  (http://orokos.com/roll/355041) looking for same.  Once clear, I will inform the team and then switch to AR so that I can ready my EBR.  Once team is in place will remotely unlock door.

Will make an IC post based on not finding any hidden icons (pretty sure I did this already, but if not best to double check).  If there are icons that I can't resolve I will need to edit my post.

I may have mis-read a previous post, thinking you were just looking at the host when you were looking more generally -- sorry.

Forty sends her spirit in first (materialized). (one service)

Assuming nothing dramatic happens (large iff), she'll look around the room in general, (per 8 dice - 1 stun = 7)
perception 7 dice look around motel room (http://orokos.com/roll/355054): 7d6t5 4
four hits, not bad for noticing whatever there is to see.  In particular looking for clothing (for scent) and things labelled "clue" in large glowing letters .... or at least anything she thinks could be relevant.

then do a teamwork perception: smell test with her spirit

Spirit 12 dice
     spirit smell (teamworking) (http://orokos.com/roll/355052): 12d6t5 3

Forty perception 8 - 1 (stun damage) +3 (teamwork)
     40's smell test (http://orokos.com/roll/355053): 10d6t5 3

Finally she'll pull out her link and take video of the room, for the rest of the team.

Edit to add: I wrote the above and associated IC post when I was up way late by my standards (waiting for our son to call for a ride home from playing D&D with friends.  Some sort of nested nerdery there).  I cleaned up a few formating and grammar mistakes in the IC post this morning, but didn't mess with the contents.  Not the most coherent thing I've ever written,  but I'm loathe to make any substantive changes after some might have read it.

Unlocking the door is easy peasy, since Ravener has a stranglehold on the motel host.  There are a few hidden icons nearby, but nothing being hidden behind a deck, so Ravener clears it all and it turns out to mostly be benign.  A drug dealer on the corner running a second link sort of thing.

Quick question afor Jayde Moon, just to make sure my assumptions are right:

- There is no internal corridor in the motel (i.e. the only door into the room is onto the parking lot)
- The windows are reflective (we can't see in from the outside)
- Windows are only on the front wall (facing onto the parking lot)

Also: if sundown happens will summon a new spirit as soon as 'night' takes effect (see in spoiler tags if this comes up)

[spoiler]will summon a new spirit if that is the case:  Force 6 beast spirit again.  This time Prong, which looks something like a stag elk whose antlers flex and threaten, and whose teeth and breath suggests that it might be a carrion eater

Summoning 12 dice -1 (stun damage) =11(contingency) beast spirit summoning (http://orokos.com/roll/357057): 11d6t5 6
     Prong's resistance 6 dice:  (contingency) Prong's resistance (http://orokos.com/roll/357058): 6d6t5 1
Resist drain:  12 dice (contingency) summoning drain soak (http://orokos.com/roll/357060): 12d6t5 3

Man, I thought I'd have more time after the holiday break, boy was I wrong.  I'm at the point where I can't wait to actually deploy, so I'll have a more regular schedule!

Railing?  I guess I should have asked one more question: how many levels is this motel, and which level is the room on?  (motels around here are usually just one level so you can park in front of your room, but on X-Files they always seemed to be visiting 2 level motels – maybe those are an American thing?)

Beyond that, Forty is waiting for orders or something more to react to.

Perform a Matrix Perception  7 hits  (http://orokos.com/roll/358105)  to detrmine:  Is there anything running silent in area around van (I automatically see all icons not running silent), the type of icon of the van (if a persona then it is being rigged, if a device then it is not), what (persona/device) each silent icon is and the rating of any personas (up to a total of 5).  Counting up personas and silent running personas to tell the team.

Perform a Matrix Perception to see if any party members have Marks against them  1 hit  (http://orokos.com/roll/358112).  I will do IC post after I get results.  If I need to do more Matrix Perception tests to identify how many people are running silent around van I will do so.  (10d6t5, you can roll if you want).  I am going to be able to do a little more than a test per second, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Anyone can trigger 'combat rounds' by rolling initiative, if you want to get the jump on him.  Otherwise, I'll assume no one is making a hostile or overt move.

The second floor location kind of change a lot of things. Wasn't counting on that.

On the lower floor, I would have used the room to trap them. Now on the second floor that wouldn't work and don't want to give them the high ground.

So we will need to act when they're coming out of the van. Angus will have the best vantage point. And Henway hopefully the surprise. Did Ravener got into any sort of sniping position?

EDIT: Ready for action as soon as we know the results of Kachina's assensing and Forty's visual trip inside the Van.

Did you mean for one of the 'comlinks' to be a cyberdeck (Renraku Tsurugi is the same deck I use)?  It will definitely affect my actions if you did.  If it is supposed to be a comlink I am going to try and hack on the fly on each comlink to get a mark so that I can erase the dialing/texting program.  After that I will switch back to AR to act and ready my sniper rifle.

If it is supposed to be a cyberdeck I will be hacking on the fly the comlink and deleting the dialing program, but also warning the team that there is a decker in play (and two possible people).  After that I will wait until they are about to spring the physical attack to try and get a mark on the cyberdeck.

Not Tsurugi, sorry, the Renraku Sensei!!!

Forty:

The interior of the Van is empty, no seats or anything, also no people, no equipment, etc.

Kachina:

Upon entering the Astral Plane you note that there are two spirits near the individual, who is Awakened, about even with you in terms of power, no cyberware, he's a human, and he's relatively calm.

I need a sneaking roll and if you want to assense the spirits, rolls for each of them, as well.

Speaking of what is astrally visible, or not, I never did say what Forty did with Harry after they sniffed the room.  I would think the default would be to let the spirit go back astral (where it would attract less attention), but keep it close to her.

But  I didn't say ahead of time, and your idea of default might be different, but do please let us know if it is different than I said.

No problem, just making sure I wasn't about to have to jump into matrix combat.  Hack on the Fly to get mark on Sensei: 13d6t5  4 hits  (http://orokos.com/roll/358591)  Crash dialer program 13d6t5  2 hits  (http://orokos.com/roll/358593)  if that didn't work try again  3 hits  (http://orokos.com/roll/358597).

If we are going to spring the trap early, I am going to leave VR for AR and prep for physical combat.  If I have time I will continue to do the other comlink...

While we are waiting for life to stop slapping Jayde Moon around quite so hard, I thought I'd take advantage of the lull for a bit of table talk with the other players.

What I think we know so far is:

- One awakened human walking toward the motel office, astrally accompanied by two spirits.  Looks similar to Kachina in magical power level.  No cyberwear (or at least, none at a grade that Kachina saw)

- We don't know any details of the spirits yet (Kachina would have to make a sneaking roll to see more without exposing herself to being seen in turn, if I read that right), nor any mention if the awakened guy has any foci or sustained spells on him.

- The van showed two comm-links in it, one running openly and one silently.  They were moving together, then the guy got out and started walking to the office.  I think the implication was that they continued to move together (suggesting that he is carrying both), but I'm not positive about that.

- Nothing was visible inside the van once the driver left.  Van didn't show either people or items in it.  Note that this was just normal vision with a perception roll of 3, so conceivably there could be invisible people, astral spirits, etc in there.

So it looks like the guy is alone other than the two spirits (i.e. he is still pretty dangerous), but we haven't quite eliminated the possibility of further back-up.

As for what is next ....I think we are all waiting for Kachina to call it, and Kachina is probably waiting for the last few results before calling anything.  (which is probably for the best -- Forty would probably just kick the van door open while calling on Henway to hit the mage with a metric ton of gel rounds, and trust numbers and fire power to deal with whatever happens.  Kachina may have a more slightly more sophisticated plan :)   )
Title: Re: [SDS OOC] Agri-Vation
Post by: WillAsher on <01-12-16/1716:15>
Sounds about right.  Ravener is just trying to disable his ability to call for help while we hit him, then can jump back to AR and add his shock sniper rounds.

Alright, looks like we might be waiting to see if Kachina wants to do anything more with the spirits or give the call o attack or whatever :)

Meanwhile, I have a sob story for anyone who wants to read it on my posting activity and how it will be for the next month probably.  I'm going to hide it so if you're not interested, you don't need to see the wall of tex, but thought it could give you an idea of what I mean by 'busy'

[spoiler]I am the Senior Enlisted Intelligence Analyst for a Sustainment Command, of which the Headquarters Element (including myself) is deploying to Kuwait this Spring.  While I am Active Duty, the unit itself is a reserve unit, so in the past few months it has gone from being about 40% manned to 100%, but that 60% did not have the ‘requirements’ so we’ve been feverishly getting those together in time for our train ups which start in a week and a half.  The train ups will include a training exercise in California and then in Texas.

As the Sr Intel Analyst, I am also the Security Manager for the entire command, which is something like… I think 5000+ people.  So while getting this several hundred contingent ready to go to Kuwait, I still have to also manage the Security Management program for the command.  I will relinquish this duty in two weeks, but right now I’m still the one.

Then, part of the 60% included my ENTIRE intelligence team.  So it went from JUST ME to several junior intelligence analysts, techs, and two superior Officers, all of which I have to train, respond to, prepare for training directly… and they are all reservists who don’t understand several of the processes.

Finally, I am a Geo-Bachelor (since i moved to this location specifically for this deployment, I did not bring my wife) so now I am in the midst of moving everything out of my house.

I have not gotten out of the office prior to 7pm on most nights.  12 hour days are a norm and it’s pretty much working lunch every day.  On top of that, I have meetings about meetings, and each meeting generates more work.    The General wants to know what he wants to know and he wants to know it yesterday.  I won’t have a weekend off until… 2017.  I might get 5-7 days between California and Ft. Hood to go see my wife for a week before I don’t get to see her for 9-12 months.

None of this is for a ‘woe is me’, I am happy with my work and look forward to this deployment, relatively (I miss my wife and dog a whole lot)… just wanted to give you guys an idea of why I am having to de-prioritize posting here, some days.

I remain committed to running this play-by-post and trying to still get on every day or not miss more than a day, until month 2 is complete.  I will probably wait to run month 3 until I am settled in Kuwait and understand what my schedule there will be like.

Anyway, that’s all!  I hope you stay with me through this time, because I do enjoy running this PbP.[/spoiler]

@Jayde - Ouch, that's a lot to have on your plate!  My father was career Air Force(23 years, including all of the Vietnam era), so growing up in that environment and remembering the times my mom was home with three kids for months at a time, I can sympathize a bit.

More importantly, thank you for your service.

As to the PbP, I'm enjoying the heck out of it and am grateful for your effort in running it.  If posting gets slow due to real world responsibilities, I am happy to be patient.

With Henway's heavy ordinance, or even an SMG with APDS ammo, sure.  Gel rounds or stich 'n shock, the risk of secondary damage is less.  Of course different characters may have different risk tolerances towards things getting messy.

=============

Has it been said how far it is from the van to the stairs?  ( I don't think so, I'm picturing us being across a fairly narrow parking lot, so on the order of ten metres or so, but that is just speculation, I could be way off)

=============

With regards to init order, JM posted:

29 Amerind Mage (Enemy)
28 Ravener
26 VanGuard
25 Harry (Spirit)
25 Kachina Spirit
21 B Spirit (Enemy)
19 Forty
18 Henway
16 Drones
14 UB Spirit (Enemy)
13 Kachina
11 Angus

I'm thinking that the enemy mage just took his action (get behind the stairs and do .... something.  Possibly cast a spell, possibly command his spirits, could be something else).  Vanguard is up next, then just after him our spirits, and then the first of the enemy spirits.  Since those act on quite different planes and are not apt to interfere with each other, hopefully we can run the spirit fight at the same time as Ravener does his thing? (i.e. we post for our spirits and Ravener, so when Jayde Moon has time he can absorb those and do the first enemy spirit, just to try and pack things as efficiently as possible).

For that matter, only Kachina is going to have a good idea of what is happening in the spirit fight, other than Harry getting disrupted or bothering to inform Forty of how its going, and Kachina is astrally projected.  So perhaps we can start queuing up meat space actions too?  At least for Forty and Henway -- Ravener could change his drone commands at 16, and that could change what Angus does (and meanwhile Kachina will want to know what is happening in the astral before acting, I'm sure).

Not sure what others think, but anyway, will re-post the rolls for Harry from further up-thread.

You figure that those actions did indeed work though it did bleed into action 1; you'll be able to act on pass 2 and on with new actions.  The truck is currently off.

Still awaiting actions from those at least near the top of the pass, but as Beta suggests, everyone should post what they want to do.

I am happy to accept 'if, then... else' statements.
Title: Re: [SDS OOC] Agri-Vation
Post by: Beta on <01-19-16/1808:09>
Doh, I conflated Ravener and Vanguard -- but while the latter is acting astrally, the former is not--and his actions could change what Forty does.  So I've conditionally updated Forty's last IC post (where she worried about the mage using invisibility) and am posting  the full if/else here.

(note that Harry already has his orders, and should be going after one of the enemy spirits on his action no matter what)

IF nothing has happened that makes it seem likely that the enemy mage is contained, Forty will jump out and commence suppression fire.  (Yes, this is somewhat reckless, in terms of making herself a target, chance of side damage, and drawing attention.  Maybe next 'month' I'll play a careful character, but meanwhile, it just seemed like what Forty would do)

====================================
first of all: yes, if the conditional IC posts stands, Forty both mispronounced and mis-used "Carpe Diem." I hope nobody is squeamish about abuse of spelling or grammar.

For suppression fire: Base pool is 12 dice, -1 for stun damage.  Does +1 from laser sight apply for suppression fire?  I'll roll it separately so it can be done either way.

Suppression fire 12d-1(stun)= pool of 11, limit 5
        suppresive fire (w/stick'nshock) (http://orokos.com/roll/362703): 11d6t5 4
and the extra die for the laser sight, in case it applies
         extra laser-sight die (http://orokos.com/roll/362705): 1d6t5 0
        So either way, 4 successes

If he ends up getting hit, by some miracle, it is DV5, AP -5 (electric)

A rules question now.  Suppression fire runs all turn.  Forty's action is on 19.  Can she now go on full defense at some point without interrupting the suppression fire?  If so, at what point can she do so?

=================================================
ELSE she'll open the van door and position herself to get as much cover from the van as she can, and take aim at the general area of the enemy mage (I think can take cover as a simple action, but don't think she can see him clearly enough to get a take aim action?
Title: Re: [SDS OOC] Agri-Vation
Post by: Yok on <01-19-16/1952:25>
If a spirit manifests,Henway will open fire on full auto (-9 defense modifier); 12 points of recoil reduction means no recoil penalty.  AP -2, DR 9P, Accuracy 7

Full Auto Attack vs Manifested Spirit (http://orokos.com/roll/362948): 10d6t5 4

If no spirit manifests then he'll put the attack into the wall where the mage went to try and flush him out, unless something else happens that might make him rethink that choice.

It is possible to move the drone so that he has good cover, 'run' the drone for partial cover, or 'sprint' the drone for 'no cover'.

Angus wil have to spend an action opening the door and moving out.

Turkish, couple of things.

Looks like you didn't move before firing?  If so, can you edit so that the movement is included in your description?  Otherwise, you've wasted edge shooting at someone behind full cover.

Second: Stick and Shock AP replaces, but does not stack with the weapons standard AP.

If other folks want to go ahead with their actions (mostly Turkish and agleam) then I'll encapsulate.  Or, my next posting opportunity I'll move forward with what I think it's mostly likely you are going to do :)

Also, just in case rolling to see through invisibility: 13d6t5  2 hits, really???  (http://orokos.com/roll/366943)

I forgot about Harry!  Assuming he's taken no penalties in the spirit brawl:

     Harry attack (Will+ACombat=12)   Harry (spirit) A. attack (http://orokos.com/roll/367044): 12d6t5 5
     Harry defense, (Int+log=12) Harry (spirit) A. defense (http://orokos.com/roll/367045): 12d6t5 1

If Harry is taking penalties, just go and roll .... not like Forty knows what is happening over there currently.

So, wow.  I expected to be busy this week, but not this excruciatingly badly.

It's 10:50 pm California time.  So I've been working every day since last Tuesday.  I guess last Saturday was sort of a day off?  Not really, the bulk was our unit flight to California, but we were up and in uniform at early o'clock and upon arrival sat in briefings to acquaint us with the post.

So we're doing this 'Staff Level' exercise, and it turns out no one knows what the f they are doing, so I've been in the 'office' at 7am after breakfast at the dining facility and then leaving 'office' at 10pm or later.  That's pretty much been every day this week.  Tuesday we got out at 8pm :D

I'm officially out of laundry and will try to do some tomorrow.  If I can find a free machine.  Good times.

And there is no sign that it's not going to be like this for the next four nights.  Wednesday ends the training exercise and then Thursday will be a regular length day and then Friday the flight back home.  Then we'll work over the weekend again.

Last night I tried to get on but I guess the forums were down so now I'm trying to get caught up tonight and give you guys a little something.  I am also frustrated that I don't even have enough time to take half an hour to post on some forums.

The irony is that once we're actually overseas, everything will calm down once we find our battle rhythm.  We'll still have 14 hour days, but we;ll be able to find 3-4 hours within those 14 hours to take for ourselves, and maybe even swing the shifts a bit because that 14 hour requirement is office manning, not necessarily everyone has to be there the whole time.

Meanwhile, in game:

Kachina needs to soak 8 physical.  The spirit had a shit roll last time and a great one this time.

Spirits are fighting.

Bullets zoom around this guy but he seems to be charmed or something as they miss.

09 Amerind Mage (Enemy)
08 Ravener
06 VanGuard
05 Harry (Spirit)
01 B Spirit (Enemy)
00 Forty
00 Henway
00 Drones
00 Kachina
00 Angus

Bad enough to have that much loaded on you; worse when there is wasted time as well :(   Best wishes on getting through this stretch with nerves and sense of humor intact.

In game, Forty has only used one free action this turn, she gets to take one more as I understand it, so a short message to warn people that she can't keep up suppression fire longer (takes 20 bullets, clip holds 30, so can't ever do more than one turn with this gun).

I'm traveling for work over the next couple of days, but I'll be trying to pay attention.

Not sure what actions (if any) that I have left at this point, but if Henway can continue to move for line of sight or to get within melee range of the mage, that's what I'm going for, with melee range  being the primary goal since we want this guy alive.

Back to the game: I'm a bit confused what hurt Kachina...
Was she attacked by one of the Spirit?

If the Amerindian isn't projecting I take he would be out of range for Astral attack, unless he moved back toward Vanguard's Van, exposing himself to the rest of the team.
Unless he threw a Mana spell, I guess.

Just unclear what happened.

in any case, I assume the defense roll would be via Willpower
[spoiler]Damage Resistance (Astral?) (http://orokos.com/roll/371184): 4d6t5 1
That would be 7 physical damage!?[/spoiler]

Taking two take aim actions for extra dice in the action on my last IC post.  I will edit my post pending the mage's action(s) and the answers to my previous question.   I figured I would go ahead and post something in the IC thread, since VG is after the mage and Ravener.

@ Obidancer (Drain roll for the banishing test)

@ All

At this time I am making a decision to table the Shaking Down Shadows games until I can actually regularly devote time to them.  I did not anticipate the amount of work it would take to prepare for this deployment I am about to go on.  I guess that's what happens when you plus up a unit from 40% manning to 100% (read: all new people) and then try to get them trained for a year abroad in just a few short months.

The irony is that once I'm in country I am fairly confident that my schedule will stabilize.  Unfortunately, that won't be until April sometime.

I think it would be better to just hold off for the next month and a half to two months than to try to force a post haphazardly and force everyone to sort of monitor the threads 'just in case' I might have posted.

I am still very interested and excited to keep these games going as I have the whole 'year' IG sort of plotted out and I am very disappointed with the circumstances that that have 'forced' my inactivity.

I am very appreciative that you all have stuck with it and I ask that you bear with me a little while longer.  We'll get the ball rolling on these and I hope that it will all be worth it in the end.

When I am certain I can post regularly, I will send you all a message, either via PM or email (PM me your email address in that case!)  Thanks for your understanding.

Hi Jayde Moon;

I had in the back of my mind “Jayde Moon deploys in April, check in with him near the end of the month to see how it’s going.”    So clearing my mental checklist here, hopefully not harassing you during yet more completely crazy weeks.  Will set the next note for sometime in June :)

I hope the deployment has happened with no more than the expected quote of chaos, confusion, and consternation.  (Granted that ‘the expected quotient’ may be rather overwhelmingly large by most people’s standards, I’d think?)

Mostly writing to check in on how you are doing – it is quite the thing you are going through, and if you have time and energy at some point to share a bit of what it is like, would be very glad to read it.   (within the limits of what you are allowed to talk about, obviously!).

Hi, still have to understand how Kachina got 7 physical damage for her banishing of the unbound spirit. Unless it is a F8 spirit and got a tremendous amount of hits... just would like it clarified.
But excited to get back in the story.
Title: Re: [SDS OOC] Agri-Vation
Post by: Jayde Moon on <06-05-16/0930:03>
Remember, you take 2x hits of the defending spirit as drain.  So 4 hits on 8 dice (if it's force 8) is a good roll but not out of the ordinary.  Now, you don't take that damage outright, you get to soak, so there's that.  Anything else you take from that IC is what she takes from it.  So if she concludes that it was a mighty powerful spirit, that's in line with what happened.
Title: Re: [SDS OOC] Agri-Vation
Post by: Beta on <06-05-16/1423:00>
I think we were getting well down the list -- I'd listed dice for spirit's third action, so we shouldn't have missed too much.

Init for Forty: 24 init (http://orokos.com/roll/407757): 11+3d6 24

Init for Harry (her spirit, force 6 beast spirit, currently in astral) astral init for Harry (http://orokos.com/roll/407764): 12+3d6 24

And for that matter, Harry is an astral brawl that Forty can't see, so I'm going to post A-attack and A-defence rolls:

Harry astral attack: Harry (spirit) A. attack (http://orokos.com/roll/407765): 12d6t5 3
Harry astral defense:  Harry (spirit) A. defense (http://orokos.com/roll/407766): 12d6t5 3

24 Kachina
24 Forty
24 Harry (Spirit)
22 Henway
19 Ravener
13 Drones
13 Angus

The Amerind splits his dice pool to cast two bolts of lightning, one at Henway and one at Angus.

Switching from Astral to Physical would take the AmerIndian his first simple action of his first pass I believe.
Giving Everyone a chance to act before he unleashed his attack.

Yep.  Don’t forget that things like wired reflexes add points to reaction as well as dice to initiative, so generally your dodge dice are the same as you base number on initiative (I’ve not looked at your character to see what the numbers are – and there are a few things which add a constant value to initiative so this isn’t a hard and fast rule).

At least, that is for the first dodge roll each combat turn.  Each subsequent roll drops by one. (and of course various other modifiers can apply)

Henway needs to soak 10 damage at -7 Armor

Angus is also hit and takes a total of 2 points of physical damage.

31 Amerind Mage
29 VanGuard
24 Kachina -4 Physical
24 Forty
24 Harry (Spirit)
19 Ravener
17 Henway
13 Drones
08 Angus -2 Physical

I'll give a day for VanGuard and then make his move for him.

Again, just to make sure that I'm doing this right (no books at work, haven't played much 5E, etc. - plus I've never been a stickler for mechanics because there's always someone who seems to have memorized the rulebook!) - damage soak is Body + Armor - AP, so in this case 10+12-5 = 15 dice.  Assuming that's correct, here's my roll.  If that's wrong somehow, let me know and I'll reroll.

Damage Soak (http://orokos.com/roll/410881): 15d6t5 7

This mage is starting to annoy Henway.........
Title: Re: [SDS OOC] Agri-Vation
Post by: Beta on <06-17-16/1443:11>
Just checking my understanding of the situation, and whether I’ve missed anything as I reviewed it:

Last turn:
-   Mage got behind solid concrete stairs (full cover from those in/near our van).  Lightning bolt paths this turn suggest that he is still back there.
-   Last turn Forty put suppressive fire around the stairs to help encourage him to stay put, but she informed the team that she was dropping it (doesn’t have enough ammo left)  so hopefully nobody is expecting it to be continued right now (volunteers to take over the providing of it are welcome to do so!)
-   It seemed like bullets were practically curving away from the mage

Locations:
-   Kachina, Ravener, and Vanguard are all still in the van, I think?
-   Forty is right next to the van (moved out just far enough to shoot at the stairs),
-   Henway started from the van but rolled out to one side (reply 250 of the IC thread)
-   Then Vanguard sent his bumblebee off the other way, to be able to shoot in from both sides (reply 252) (he also had a fly-spy with ultrasound keeping tabs on the mage).  After his bumblebee missed, I think he used a take aim action (reply 256)
-   and Angus had moved to look down at the mage from above (reply 253).

** For Forty, how far is it to the stairs?  (She may want to move to get line of sight on the mage, and also has to consider the terrible firing range of her machine pistol).  I think the rest have heavier weapons (so no range issues) and already have line of sight.

@ Obidancer:  what force was the spirit of man, and what powers?  Also, I assume no drain on the summon?

The Spirit is a Force 7 becoming F8 with the Spirit Whisperer Quality

I haven't got the chance to make the rolls just yet. Here there are:

Summoning F7 Spirit of Man (http://orokos.com/roll/412334): 14d6t5 6
Spirit Resistance (http://orokos.com/roll/412336): 8d6t5 2
4 Services
Drain Resistance DV4 (http://orokos.com/roll/412337): 10d6t5 3
Extra 1 Stun...

Spirit Initiative:
Spirit Astral Initiative 18+2d6 (http://orokos.com/roll/412338): 16+3d6 26

Spirit Attack on his first Pass:
Spirit Attack (http://orokos.com/roll/412339): 17d6t5 6
Damage would be 8DV + Net successes.

- Forty is at -3 stun (because of various drain over the course of the day).  I did take that into account in her init roll (rolled 11+3d6 rather than 12+3d6)

- Harry is brawling with the enemy's spirit ( supplied attack and defense rolls earlier)

- I have a question before I post Forty's action -- how far would she have to move to get near either the drone or Henway, and have line of site on the mage?  Walk (12m), run(24m), more than that? I think I'm having her do something else, but have to look a couple of things up in the rules when I get home -- this may get edited if I figure that out before they are awake in Kuwait :).

I think this is OK:

-   Hold her actual action.

I’d forgotten that there is some degree of mental link between spirit and summoner.  Any chance that Harry sends any information/feelings back to Forty about how the spirit-fight is going?  (Forty didn’t specifically include that in her instructions, so possibly not, but I’m really not sure how much this is an open channel versus ‘push-to-talk.’

Round 2 Pass 2

21 Amerind Mage
19 VanGuard Hlding Action
16 Kachina's Spirit
14 Kachina  -1 Stun / -4 Physical
14 Forty -3 Stun
14 Harry (Spirit)
09 Ravener
07 Henway -3 Stun, also an additional -1 to dice rolls this turn due to electric damage
03 Drones
00 Angus -2 Physical, also an additional -1 to dice rolls this turn due to electric damage

Forty can take an action to communicate with the spirit, she would feel if it got discorporated or something, but there is not necessarily a free trelepathic link.

VanGuard holds his action.

Kachina's spirit attacks the Amerind's spirit and sends it packing.

I think that Harry has one service left (at least, in my tracker post at the top of the OOC thread I had written, before the break, that 1 service remains.  And I did find the summoning post, giving 3 services, and I think Forty used up one to sniff the motel room and 1 to attack the mage's spirit).

So when the mage's spirit goes poof, Harry's existing service expires, but Harry should stick around.  Would Forty be aware of that?

Yes, Forty would know!

Obidancer, think we're looking for your next action.

Oops, I was not reading carefully, forgot that was your second pass action in the IC thread..  So Forty and her spirit are up.  I'll have it up soon. right about now.

JaydeMoon, I'm assuming that there are still penalties for shooting this way.  I'm taking a guess at 'not as bad as blind fire' since we have some fairly decent idea of where we are shooting.  Shooting from cover with an image link is -3, and seems like it might be somewhat similarly awkward (although in opposite ways -- there you are shooting in an odd manner, with a clear idea of where the target is, here we are shooting normally, with only a fuzzy idea of where the target is.)

So I'm provisionally rolling with a -3, but will happily re-roll with whatever modifier you deem appropriate.

13 dice, -1 for stun, -3 for targeting issues, gives 9 dice
     shoot kachina/enemy mage (http://orokos.com/roll/419731): 9d6t5 3  3 successes, decent.

As for Harry, he needs to spend an action materializing, unless the enemy mage is using astral sight in which case he can attack him astrally.

Can you give me a quick estimate of how far away the Amerind mage (now on the ground) is from Henway?  Just trying to gauge what pace I need to keep to reach him, or if that's not really possible.

EDIT:  Still waiting on response regarding distance, but just to keep things moving Henway is either running towards the downed mage with gun ready to shoot if he moves again or running and trying to pin the guy to the ground if he can reach him with a spur over the guy's eye since I think we wanted him alive if possible.
