Evening Squishies. So, just got the 5th edition core Rulebook a week ago and after laborious studies, I have an alright idea on how to run a small Shadowrun. Now, I need to figure out how to prep a group of four for their first run. I myself use to DM for D&D avidly, but this new group isn't too in tune with Pen and Paper games (never got past lv 12 for their characters). Just trying to think of something to help the transition to the sixth world. From what I have read, trying to explain the core stuff to them would be like running into Black IC with a rating 1 Deck!

I would say be prepared to do a lot of hand holding and be forgiving. Maybe have an npc in the group as an experienced runner to show the green people the ropes. Shadowrun is more about preparation and scouting than just going head first and wack all opposition so maybe setup the run to be low on security or at least allow for a huge margin of error.

As for the rules introducing them a session at a time could be an idea.
If Tom Brady’s a Spike Baby, what does that make Brees and Rodgers?

Ah, thank ya! I guess that makes more scene, taking baby steps before letting them run loose. Guess i'll set up a bar-fight, and then get them dragged into a Shadowrun later. Well, we shall see how it goes!

Ah the bar fight! Excellent first session - don't forget the Troll bouncer that gently escorts the winners and losers out the door and into the gutter at the end.  ;D

The very first shadowrun mission is actually a pretty good introductory scenario -- let's characters get to know each other, let's you give them one or more free fixer contacts, and requires more 'using the rules' to do basic tasks than it does combat.  The only thing is that it is written for third edition not fifth edition, so you are probably best to come up with all of your own stats than try to translate (third edition rules were very different, with different attributes, dice system, etc)

(Shadowrun missions are a series of mini-campaigns designed to be a sort of common campaign -- seasons one and two are free on the catalyst site)

The alphaware tool kit can be a big help. I've started a group who have either been out of the game for a long time, or were new to shadowrun. The Plots and Paydata give you five fairly easy runs that introduce the concepts of shadowrun bit by bit. Nice for new players and GM's alike.
