I was making a character that was a former Simsense porn star but was wondering if that background counted as Famous or Infamous or neither for the penalty.

Neither, unless you purchase positive or negative qualities.

That's what I am trying to hash out.  Would that background fit a Famous or Infamous or neither Positive/Negative Quality?

Probably famous though it largely depends on how you want people to react to your character.

If the character was yet another anonymous person who did porn to make ends meet during desperate circumstances, no qualities.

If it was BTL porn or an unpleasant fetish, then either Big Regret (if it is the character's dirty secret) or Bad Reputation (if the character's past is known).

If the character was an actual star, then Local Fame or even National Fame - remember that basic porn or sex work is not as stigmatized in the jaded world of Shadowrun.

The idea was that she's a face(5's) type character with some decking (3's) skill who just recently found out she has magic (1's).  She finds she has to flee her long-time producer as one of her fans with some money/clout decided he/she wanted her as the star of a snuff film.

If said fan is a hardcore psycho obsessed with your character, then Wanted negative quality may be a good idea. The answer to your original question about famous vs infamous is: it's up to YOU to decide. See Glyph's post.

Pretty much in shadowrun porn sells and frankly a lot of countries don't view sex as a bad thing even today. So I'd say it'd be up to you if she's a porn STAR (famous) or a porn star who did unacceptable things like having sex with ghouls or the like (infamous). Personally I'd go for famous/online fame and wanted given the background you've given.

Keep in mind that Prostitution is legal in 99.99% of Shadowrun countries. In 2079, Porn is PG. Unless your char is into some really nasty stuff (I mean like Pedophilia) Infamous would be hard to sell just as a porn star. Even having sex with ghouls probably wouldn't be subject to much stigma.

Go for wanted, A serious fan with famous can be a pain in the back.
Fame on a low level might suit the character. In Shadowrun most people can change their looks to match someone
