What kind of contacts would yall suggest for named contacts for a character with the friends in high places quality? I like the idea of a runner knowing a specific person who has been involved in a historic event. Is there a useful source of named people in the world of Shadowrun?

Look at the people running the Megas or big crime syndicates in 4e and pick one of them.
Playability > verisimilitude.

Hard targets has a couple of named 8+ contacts.

Ideas:
Delta Clinic Director

Politicians

Intelligence Agency Assistant Director.

International Infobroker.

Batman (because he could exist in the shadowrun world) :)

The latter has merits. Imagine being captured and threatning to call Batman... imagine him ACTUALLY showing up.

A senior senator in UCAS congress (or the current President) would be an awesome Contact to have at high Loyalty. :P
As would the director of the FBI, CIA or NSA (though some high muckity muck in the UN would probably better here).

How would a GM play the president with a loyalty of 6 towards a Shadowrunner?

I suppose it depends on the relationship between the two.

Staying over in the Lincoln Bedroom quite often or maybe being able to borrow Air Force One on occasion?

Maybe you and the President use the Clinton closet :P

You don't even need to stop at the President.  You can be BFF with Harlequin, or Damien Knight, or Ghostwalker.  Of course, being the best of buddies with a powerful and influential figure can be a double-edged sword; people like that also have powerful enemies.

Then there's Villiers's daughter as a Loyalty 6 Contact--basically being her f**k buddy. :P

I'd rather have Glitch or Slamm-O! as a contact loyalty 6. That's the sort of friend you can't get enough of.

Eww.  You can definitely get enough of both of those two. With the possible exceptions of /dev/grrl/, Frosty, and Man of Many Names, I would not want pretty much anyone in Jackpoint - Fastjack included - as a high-loyalty contact.

That said, there are only a handful of high-end 'named' individuals I'd really want to have as quality contacts.  Buttercup, Richard/Samantha/Daughter Villiers, Arleesh, Hitomi Shiawase ... that's most of them right there.  Granted, most of those have Connections 9-12 ... but hey.

One of these days I really need to lay out my revised contact stuff for y'all ...

True, especially Slamm-O is basically the first to call if you need a live target to try your new hand loaded Depleted Uranium Rounds for that shiny Barret you have in your stack.
