Man and Machine says that bioware acts as a resistor against the use of magic, but does not really go into specifics. What does that mean? Is the Bio Index a modifier to Target Numbers, for example a Bio Index of 2 is a +2 on magic tests?

Also how does the bio index affect Adept abilities? Does it limit the number of points available for adept powers?

I know this is rather late but it lowers the Magic rating (not essence) by the body index rounded down to the nearest whole number.  Its also on page 78 of Man and Machine.
