Hey Chummers, quick question. My Street Mage now has a Power Foci (very expensive 32 Karma cost)
When adding 4 dice to my spell pool, do i still need to save the drain on successful hits, can i use the Foci to add to my drain pool?

Many thanks

It is a focus :) Foci is plural.

A power focus adds its rating to tests which include your MAGic attribute. Since drain is done with WIL+some other mental attribute a power focus does not help here.

This may be an SR3 question.

Actually, I believe (in 4e as well) you can use a Power Focus to add to the Magic test OR the Drain test (but not both).

Which, should be the information you need anyway.

In SR4 a power focus adds its Force to any tests that involve your Magic attribute.  As drain doesn't involve your Magic attribute, it doesn't apply to resisting drain.  However, there is such a thing as a Centering Focus that does add its Force to resisting drain whenever you are able to use Centering.

As for SR3, which is where I think the question really is, I haven't a clue.
