Better question: What was it a vaccine for?

It may have been to prevent the SURGE effects.

It may have been to prevent the SURGE effects.

That was my initial thought as well.

But we know that the game setting as of 2073 does not restrict SURGE players to children, thus it must have likely affected those older. And Big D's words say immunize children born after the date. If it was to prevent SURGE it would have only mitigated a small portion of it. At least sparing children death.

My thought is that he wanted to Mitigate SURGE deaths in the young. But knowing Big D whatever it was, it was bigger than simply that. He was too far ahead a thinker.

I have two possible thoughts.

1) The vaccine was for a new strain of VITAS, HMHVV, or other big bad nasty.
2) The vaccine related to either the awakened or the otaku/technomancer genome.

Or, it was meant to channel SURGEing into bringing about more Pixies (Windlings), Obsidimen and T'skrang. ;)

Apparently it has been covered.

Dug this out of the Horrors thread. Spoilers below for the Novel The Forever Drug by Lisa Smedman.

"this issue was resolved in a novel : The Forever Drug by Lisa Smedman. Apparently, the vaccine is meant to activate the longevity genome in all metahumanity, they would live forever unless killed via the usual methods...

the vaccination plan failed due to a run resulting int the destruction of the factory/ doctors/ loss of data...  nothing was left aside.
Lofwyr was said to be behind it ...."

For what it is worth, if that was in the fruitcake it would be one HELL of a fruitcake to get your hands on. (Since this thread became focused on the insides of the cake at some point)

PS- I am about to Necro the Horrors thread too.

It would be a kick in the face if the fruitcake actually help the formula and maybe a sample of the vaccine. It's just sitting there in a dragon's lair, waiting.

Actually, the fruitcake could BE the vaccine.  Fruitcakes seem to last forever.  Perhaps this particular one is basically ambrosia.

Turning on the longevity gene would actually be an immense problem, there have been numerous scifi stories based around this notion.

You got it all wrong the fruitcake was brought up in to orbit to be used as the thor shot that killed Art.

??? That would be an interesting choice of ammo. I wonder what the lasting effects would be.

Could also be the vaccine.

And I doubt even being used as a Thor shot would make it any less of a fruitcake than it was.

That's almost sweet... oh.. wait, you mean it couldn't be wor... anyway, a fruitcake baked by a Dragon is a damn fine fruit cake in my opinion!
