5e master index edition has the same unacceptably poor binding glue issue 5e has apparently had since it
was first released. The second time i opened the book it was already falling apart. The text block is slowly falling right out of the cover.
Still no response to my email to catalyst from last year.
Shadowrun is awesome, but this company seems to have poor oversight and little or no customer service.
You have a great franchise, guys; I hope you can continue to improve your business.

That said, i am happy with my amateur attempt at a fix. Maybe this will help someone else.
Pictures linked below.
1. A strip of linen was soaked in glue. A bookmark ribbon was glued to the inside cover.
2. After drying, the strip was glued to the rear of the text block.
3. After drying the linen pieces which extended past the text block (flaps) were
Glued to the hardcover on the crease of the spine.
During the drying at this step, one side was glued at a time. The wet side was facing down.
Pencils were placed in the crease of the spine on the down side, and heavy books placed on top.
The result is that the text block feels much more secure, I have a bookmark ribbon,
and the spine is actually cinched in rather than being floppy and bulging outwards.
I chose not to glue the linen to the cover directly behind the text block, as I find that when you open the book,
the text block naturally pulls away from the cover towards the viewer. This is partly what causes the original glue to break in the first place.
The glue i used is tombow aqua paper glue.

Thanks for sharing. I’ll drop a note to Jason re the binding issue...hopefully they can address with the next reprint due out later this year.

Confirmed with Jason that the upcoming reprint will be sourced from a new printer. The one they have been using could not guarantee an improvement so CGL moved to another printer who has a long track record with large RPG books.

Ok. Thanks for letting me know.
It won't help me with sr5, having already bought a physical and digital copy of sr, but thats good news
For the game and company moving forward.
Best regards.

That is a really god new! I've waited with buying a physical copy, because of the binding, I really hope it'll turn out good!
If nothing worked, let's think!

Seriously contemplating getting an updated version since all I have is version 1
If Tom Brady’s a Spike Baby, what does that make Brees and Rodgers?

In physical form I have a first edition first printing but I also own, and use, an updated digital edition. Will consider a new copy as well

I haven't picked up any of the 5e reprints...have generally relied on my PDFs, but now this new one is on my radar. Jason made also made a comment about there being multiple covers...not exactly sure what this will mean, but hoping my collector bug doesn't kick in too hard ;D

I have all the PDFs and all the first print core books.

The main book is properly the only one i would want an updated version of.

I bought new core book (4th printing) just few months back and the book and its bindings are falling apart already even before we have started our sessions.

Would be nice to get some well documented fix from CGL, nevertheless thanks for this guide - will try to get mine fixed as well.

my physical core rulebook fell apart, really bad.... I understand that I'm not the only one experiencing this problem... Anyways, I'm patiently waiting for the new re-print and get me some physical hard cover and good quality 5e core

Some of the players around my area took their Core Rulebooks down to Kinko's and had the books re-bound in a big spiral.  Lost the hard covers, but kept the pages from falling out...
RPG mechanics exist to give structure and consistency to the game world, true, but at the end of the day, you’re fighting dragons with algebra and random number generators.
