What if he is sending spirits to attack you as he is on the other side of the city.
You can't just conjure a spirit and tell them "Go attack that guy on the other side of the city". If the mage's meat is across the sprawl from you, then most likely he's watching you from the astral, or he has a ritual sample that he (or the spirit) can use to track you. Either way, sending the spirit is just him giving you a chance. Guess what kind of chance a mundane has to resist ritual magic.

If you're being attacked by spirits, SnS, Flamethrowers, Lasers, or Assault rifles or better on FA are your best bet. Don't have any of those? Pray the spirit has orders to bring you back alive.

... Or doing ritual magic to you?

[The Last Starfighter]
Kodan Officer: She won't answer the helm! We're locked into the moon's gravitational pull. What do we do?
[sound of Lord Kril's eyepiece swinging over left eye]
Lord Kril: We die.

Yeah, you kind of hope the mage gets tired due to drain and stops attacking.

If you don't have the hardware to go up against spirits, your pretty much doomed - run away quickly, best in a vehicle since spirits don't move that fast in the material world and you will at least force them into Astral to keep up at some points. And head for any toxic zone, mana ebb, domain or mana warp you know of to weaken the spirit.

Defeat the 'targeting' the spirits are using. If the mage knows what you look like, change that, and try to blend with a crowd. Same really if they are using an astral sig - get with other people and make it hard to assence you from the mass of people.

That kind of assumes you take out at least one spirit and have the chance to move/hide, etc.

Sending a spirit out past (Magic X 100 meters) is a remote service - that means the mage can sent them, but unless the spirit is bound the mage won't be able to change whatever the initial orders are for that spirit (because it uses all remaining servers for unbound spirits). That may not matter if its "kill them all" or the like, but potentially that might provide a loophole.
The Aztechnology ziggurat is imposing in only the way corporate architecture mixed with a an ancient culture renown for its human sacrifice could be. Its hard to really determine which is more chilling, though... the ancient bloody past or modern soulless technology.

You can notice ritual magic building up, but even then the only defense is finding a mage that provides you protection against it.

Street Magic does have Lucifer Lamps that can make astrally active things visible to people not astrally perceiving (like mundanes). There are also special cameras that can take astrally-sensitive photographs, but that would be like handing a blind man a camera - they did it in Psych, and it didn't end up well for the photographs.

As for spirits, their Immunity To Normal Weapons generally means you either run away or break out the anti-material weapons and unload. If you have any knowledge of their allergies, apply liberally.

If brute force does not work, you have not used enough of it. Add more and try again. (Street Sam)

Smoke grenades are good against mages, as is chameleon armour and similar methods of staying out of their sight. (Infiltration builds)

If the mage thinks he's your friend, you have nothing to worry about (Face)

How the heck did the mage get line of sight to you?!? (Hacker/Rigger)

Also, if you can find a religious relic or something else that generates a background count and can be carried around with you, you're golden.

Have no weak points as for attributes. Most tank builds (especially trolls) neglect willpower and other mental stats quite efficiently. Reduce charisma, for example does a good job putting trolls into vegetative state, assuming you're close enough to cast it... well, no, forget the charisma. But a good willpower is as essential against mages as body is against firearms. More so perhaps, considering mind control spells in addition to stunbolts and such.

Also, as there are martial art bonuses for attacks of will (kiai), so I wouldn't call it a stretch to have some that help defend against spells. Also, there's the kind of Feywear that gives you a magic resistance.

A lack of Willpower and "Sleep" spells have been the only thing that have nearly taken out our group's Troll Tank.

Well, that, and hugging an electric fence.

I've seen gear that tries to imitate what mages do for mundanes.  There are potions that work just like heal spells and eye drops that can allow mundanes to assence and things like that. While it won't save you from a manabolt they might give you a heads up and keep you fighting longer.

They cost a pretty penny though.

Those healing potions aren't really all that useful for mundanes, though, since all it does is give them Innate Spell (Heal). You still have to make the spellcasting test, which means if you have no Magic score and no ranks in Spellcasting, there really isn't much point.

How about an Awakened Spider Monkey with ADHD and Magician as a pet? (Don't forget to make it fully sentient and mischievous too.)  8) :P
