Hi community,

I have a very simple question regarding SR4 rules:
If there is an agent/detective or such who wants to secure evidence with the help of the forensic toolkit (arsenal, page 68) like fingerprints, what is corresponding skill for this?
Would you like to see her/him rolling dice for tracking or perception (or another skill)?

Thanks for your time

Forensics is a knowledge skill. The physical securing of evidence can be handled through medicine and perception

Thank you! So, tracking is nature-related and perception for securing evidence seems right. Also, medicine is a good way, e.g., when examining bodies. Thanks for this inspiration!

Finding and gathering evidence at a crime scene should be a straight-up Perception test. A decent "Forensic Science" knowledge skill should be relevant, however ... it's not in the rules, but I'd allow the knowledge skill to back up the active skill in a kind of teamwork test: make the Forensic Science skill test, then add any hits as a dice pool bonus to the Perception Test.
