Title: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Jack_Spade on (05:17:10/08-27-16)
As the fourth installment after

Deep Black Sea (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=19532.0)
Pain and Gain  (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=21044.0)
Sins of the Fathers (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=22914.0)

on 29th of September the latest run "Panzerknacker" will begin.

This will be a classic "heist" kind of run - find a way into the thing and get the thing out. Examples: The Great Train Robbery, Italian Job, Leverage, etc.

The cast contains:

Volker as.........bnc, the human hacker (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=19533.msg348618#msg348618)
Sabato Kuroi as...Torrent, the elf espionage specialist (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=21045.msg378532#msg378532)
Qwikfix as........Krestov, the troll tank (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=19533.msg348479#msg348479)
SquirrelDude as...Slobbertooth, the ork outlaw (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=21045.msg378027#msg378027)
gilga as..........Yael, the human haunter (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=24766.msg463327#msg463327)
Crossbow as.......Flatline, the human healing mage (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=24766.msg463445#msg463445)
badneighbor as....Kite, the human haul handler (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=24766.msg463547#msg463547)

But I hope to draw in some extra talent: As you can see the team is in need of a good mage with astral projection abilities (Mystic Adepts need not apply ;) ).
Other roles are also welcome, but due to mission type I'd prefer no "Special Snowflake" characters.

In total I'm looking for two to max. three additional players to assist this seasoned crew.

Normal char gen with all variants allowed (priority, sum2ten, karma, live paths). To catch you up a bit to the others, you gain 20 Karma post gen and 40k nuyen.

And remember: Competent specialists and professionals who are able and willing to work in a team environment - that's what we want.

This thread will be used to display relevant information for the game.

The team's safe house (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=24766.msg468132#msg468132)

I'd love to play a mage if you like.

I've an idea for Bean-Gnome Rigger. A bit of ADHD and a love of tinkering has gotten Bean into as much trouble as it's gotten her out of.

Locking in and confirming transfer of character control of Krestov from Sgtboomcloud to Qwikfix.

...To the other returning players, hi guys :) had to go through a bit of a transition, can explain via PM if wanted. but I'm here, and with luck back in a better capacity.

I fixed your name in the intro.

The others: Take your time to craft the characters

Glad to see you're back Sgt./Qwikfix. Was afraid we'd be without the one person who can get force Slobbertooth to calm down.

Tch.  No pressure right?  I'm sure some of the others would be a mediator....wait yeah, you're probably right XD.

We'll see what happens.  At the moment I'm at an interesting point education wise.  The next couple of weeks will be pretty critical, but I'm optimistic to my availability here.

Ok, I'm admitting to myself that I don't even have time to make a chara much less add a new game to my activities. I know I would have loved playing with you guys but there's just no way to come up to speed with the game and it's chara's given my other time commitments. Thx for the consideration Jack_Spade.

@ismilealot

Thanks for the info and your realistic approach. That is much better than a starting+no show combo.
Maybe next time  :)

@ismilealot

We attempt roughly a 3 times / week posting frequency. It's not a 1-2 posts a day rate as I think I can recollect you usually play.

@team

My final exams have been postponed, unfortunately. This means, on the one side, that I'm kind of back a bit earlier, say, by the end of the week or so. On the other side, it means, that the "kind of" will last 'til end of October or so.

@Volker

Welcome back and no problem, we'll start slow and with low matrix involvement  so you can catch up when you are ready.

What happened to the pregnant detective? I'll make a character if you all need it. Maybe dust off Eyesight or remake him from scratch. Since my old campaign died im a free agent.

Went missing in action, had to scrap most of the astral part of the adventure.

If you want to participate: Welcome, details on the character generation are in the first post.

Oh, and Jack you may want to update some of those links you have to character sheets so that prospective players have a better idea of what they'll be joining. I haven't updated that Deep Black Sea in over year (holy shit we've been at this a while).

The Pain and Gain Sheet that's been updated regularly. http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=21045.msg378027#msg378027 (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=21045.msg378027#msg378027)

Done, and Torrent's as well.

I have no idea where bnc's and Krestov's current sheets are supposed to be. :)

Depends:
What do you want to play?
Are you a committed, reliable player?
Are you up for a heist?

Hi ;)

looking forward to play with you. I did not connect much to David, as I wanted someone a bit more physically capable. That is why I created yet another mage. Meet Yael. a grifter, a thief and a mage.

Yael grew in poverty and as a SINless child, with a sick mother and a younger brother. Her formative years were spent begging, and conning people out of their money, pick pocketing and stealing everything she needed to survive. Her skills did not fail her and the family managed to somehow keep a float.  Yael was good enough at her trade and careful enough to reach puberty, at the age of 14 she had a life changing event, pick-pocketing from the wrong person - a person with a gun, an Ares predator.  Finding herself at the wrong edge of a gun, the young girl had to return the credstick she lifted from a man that clearly did not belong in her neighborhood.

The man shot her anyway - he was that angry and she was sinless. He thought he'd get away with it. Yael has decided to play dead and had the chance to listen to the man talk to his lawyer. A brilliant criminal lawyer named Debbie that has later became one of Yael's contacts. Debbie has instructed the man to toss the gun in the garbage and create an alibi.

The man tossed the murder weapon to a nearby garbage can and went away, having heard the conversation the wounded girl scouted nearby gabage cans before getting help. She was THAT excited about owning a gun. Once recovered, Yael have trained with the gun a lot, figuring out that she would be safer with it. Yael discovered that she was gifted with pistols, and quickly got proficient. A gun had many benefits and one of them was - that it was easier to find jobs - paying jobs.

Yael awakened at the age of 16, and it was a mixed blessing. From one side she had a very bad opinion about mages that discovering that she was one of THEM was a crisis. Assensing and astral projection were her first capabilities. They seemed to be in high damned in the Barrens, being able to descreetly spy on people. It was a tool and like the gun it increased her employability.

Debbie, the shark lawyer that unintentionally saved Yael's life few years ago became a regular client. She payed Yael to check things out for her, to assense clients and see if they are likely lying and get a glimpse at their true mental state. Until the age of 17 this was all Yael knew how to do, use the astral. Then, a local talismonger has took the young teen under his wing and gave her some magical education. The very basics of spell-casting. The healing spell was Yael's first spell - and that one have made the young mage quite popular in her neighborhood. Street gangs have begun sending her their wounded to heal and Yael finally had earned their respect.

Over the years, Yael have managed to deepen her knowledge of magic and increase her vocabulary. At the age of 20 she is an established street mage, the pay have improved and along with it the chance of buying good for her little family. Her spell selection is still limited and is mainly aimed at augmenting Yael's mundane skills,

The crunch ;)

bnc's 'background check'
[spoiler]
Well there is not much digital information about Yael, as it is just a name without a SIN behind it.  I assume there are some records that you can find if you try. She is Pullyallup grown, and have done some odd things to support herself. She was mainly a beggar and a thief as a street urchin. She was probably arrested a couple of times, but never for something that justified a criminal SIN, usually for disturbing the peace and playing begging in public places.

She played the guitar from a young age and but was more talented with palming than with the guitar. Since the age of 13-14 she was doing odd jobs for the local gangs as a muscle for hire, she is a professional gunslinger and has even taken a bullet or two. Yael awakened at 12 but did not have anyone to guide her. So the only magical skill she had was asensing, she did not share this capability with anyone as she was afraid of people's reaction. (geek the mage first and anything).

She 'came out' as a mage at the age of 16 when she illegally purchased a fake SIN (Anna) and used it to enroll to university. Even then it is evident that Yael was struggling financially as she never took any of the expensive magical courses. (The ones that require a large amount of reagents to practice.). She is studying for the last four years and this is where her magical skills come from.

Yael visits her family once a week, when she can - they know never to contact her to not ruin her cover. They are all criminals, doing illegal shadowy things. Her father is a fence and works in a pawn shop and her mother works on a chop shop where she strips down stolen cars. Needless to say that that if any of that information becomes public Yael will be kicked out of university, where she seats on a scholarship for orphan mages.

She has a younger brother named Larry that is a go-ganger that resents her for leaving for university and ditching her old life behind.

Depends:
What do you want to play?
Are you a committed, reliable player?
Are you up for a heist?

1) Generally I like to play combat-types, but I like to be useful outside of a fight as well. Whether that means Face, stealth/b&e specialist, or something else. Alternately I'd be willing to make a rigger.

2) I consider myself to be. I saw in the thread that the expectation is 2-3 weekly posts and I can certainly do that.

3) Yup

I don't think I will be able to play a competent magician character at the pro level you are all on. Therefore I am gonna try and throw my hat in on the "other roles accepted" offer as a Detective character of mine named Jessica London whom got scrapped after Gradvius' campaign died. If thats alright?

@Raiderjoseph
Well, post it here (including Backstory) and we'll see  ;)

@badneighbor
The main roles are taken care off, so feel free to play what you want.

There is a neighborhood in the Redmond Barrens that nobody talks about.  Actually there are a lot of places in the Barrens that no one talks about, but this part of the Barrens doesn't get talked about because the people that live there want to keep it secret.  The reason they keep it a secret is because the people that live there don't want the world to know that life in this little part of one of the worst hellholes on earth is not really all that bad, it is kind of an oasis in the brutality around it.  In fact the folks that live there call it the Oasis.  It is near enough to Touristville that you can still hear sirens most nights, but a little too deep into the district for the slummers and thrill seekers to risk making the attempt.  The Oasis is not really any better off than the area around it, there is crime and desperation, and rundown buildings, but the folks here care a little more and actually look out for each other when they can.  It is the kind of place that a married Mafia lieutenant can stow the dime piece he keeps on the side with his illegitimate kid if he likes her.  Where a Shadowrunner can have his brother's family move to after the brother takes a bullet for him.

One of the reasons that the Oasis exists is the Harris Clinic, a place where locals can do for real care.  One of the reasons that the thin, awkward looking young man walking out of the Clinic knows he can safely walk these streets without fear is that his name is Devon Harris, he is the son of Dr Maxwell Harris, the founder of the clinic.

Devon knows that after the 12 hour shift he just finished that he really should just go home and sleep, but he also knows that he is going to the 'other' clinic a few blocks away to check on the razorgirl's new mod and spend a few more hours going over rituals in his Lab.  He pops his last Caff-Tab and cracks a new pack, walking a little faster so that he might sleep in his real bed tonight.

20 QUESTIONS

• We are shaped by our heritage. Facial features, skin tone, height,
build, metatype, even aptitudes are influenced by the genes
passed from parent to child. Attitude, too, is taught by parents,
informed by their own lives and their cultural heritage. Where
does your character come from, what is her lineage, who were
her parents, and what did she inherit from them?

Devon Harris’ heritage is marked by every major counterculture movement of the last century.  His ancestors were Freedom Riders, Civil Rights Activists, Hippies, Bohemians, Feminists, and Peaceniks.  They were part of Anonymous, Greenpeace, and Occupy.  With the beginning of the Sixth World they just continued the struggle, putting in time for every cause and anyone downtrodden.  Charity, community, and equality are as natural as breathing for him.

Devon’s father’s family has been in the medical field going back centuries.  There has been a Doctor Harris in Seattle as long as there has been a Seattle, with varying degrees of fame, fortune, and success.  The latest incarnation is the Harris Clinic, a neighborhood practice that includes a nearby shadow clinic for those requiring unique voluntary procedures and care without questions run by Dr. Maxwell Harris, Devon’s father.

Lydia Harris (Pinkskin Salish name - Walks With Deer) was a pretty little nymph that captured Maxwell’s heart in college, she has flitted in and out of his and Devon’s life, magic being both her nature and her calling.  They have an interesting relationship.

Devon is their only child with a foot in both worlds.

• Parents can be proud of their children or regret ever bringing
them into the world. Some are loving, and some are indifferent.
All of them are only metahuman and have their own opinions
of their children. Assuming they could speak, what would each
of your character’s parents say about her?

Max would like Devon to buckle down and get a medical degree so he can take over the practice and Max can retire, whatever that means to old doctors.  Lydia wants him to live life on his own terms and find his own path, she thinks he is too studious and loves to bring him out to the Cascades with her.  Both are very proud of him for following their lead.  Devon is a weird kid.

• Many people remember certain historical events for the rest of
their lives. For those alive in the first decade of the 21st century,
it could be the assassination of John F. Kennedy, or the
Tiananmen Square protests, or the fall of the Berlin Wall, or
the attacks of 11 September 2001. People remember where they
were, and what they were doing when they first heard of these
events. Shadowrun history has significant events as well, such as
the assassination of President Dunkelzahn, the Crash 2.0, and
the emergence of technomancers and artificial intelligences.
Pick a few events from recent Shadowrun history and ask where
the character was at the time, what does he remember about the
event, and what was he doing at the time?

Most of those times have been marked by civil unrest in Seattle, which for Devon means a busy life, days with Mom out trying to fix things, nights with Dad putting folks back together in the clinics.

• Very few people choose to become shadowrunners. More
likely, they are thrown into the life by a chaotic and uncaring
world. Even if she made a conscious decision to enter the
shadows, her decision is influenced by the world around her.
How did your character get into shadowrunning, and why did
she take that path?

Devon had known of Shadowrunners his whole life, one of his earliest memories is from the night of the Big D’s assassination, one of those busy days mentioned earlier. He saw a team of runners bring a comrade into his dad’s clinic and then guard the place from the violence on the street.  There was a REALLY big troll that carried an HMG like a shotgun.

He didn’t really consider getting into shadowrunning until he began to understand that Runners funded the shadowclinic, which brought in a LOT of money.  He figured that he can run for a bit and build up a nice nest egg to get him though Medical School.

• People have control over their own living arrangements. From
the child young enough to use crayons and tape all the way up
to the elderly shut-in who plasters her walls with family photos
and cat pictures, everyone makes their living spaces more personally
pleasing. What is your character’s living space like, and
what has he added or changed to make it his own?

He lives in the neighborhood he grew up in, near the clinic, his space is simple and functional as he can make it, probably needing a woman’s touch, but clean.  His real home is the Magic Lab that is off a hidden passage of the shadow clinic.  That is where he cuts loose, as much as a hermetic ever does anyway.

• Everyone has beliefs, and many have beliefs strong enough to
be convictions. Some are religious, some are political, some are
social, and some are just about why people are here. What does
your character believe in, what are her convictions (if any), and
why does she hold them?

He upholds the Hippocratic Oath even though he is under no obligation to do so, and believes in fighting for the little guy.

• Everyone has aspects of their personality that grate on someone.
Even the best of friends annoy one another from time to time.
The flaws in a person’s character are as important as the qualities.
What do you dislike most about your character’s personality?

Kinda bookish, and I don’t like drugs

• The Sixth World is considered by many to be spinning out of
control. If anyone could exert control over it, it would be the
“Big Ten” triple-A megacorps. These transnationals exert a lot of
influence on everyday life in the 2070s. Which of the Big Ten
does your character hold in the highest (or least low) regard,
which does he like the least, and why?

Doc Wagon and Crashcart are the best of the worst, because some of their guys actually care.  The rest are just tools keeping people down.

• People make acquaintances and friends; we’re hardwired for it.
Humans are social animals. This is especially true in the shadows,
where often it is not the power you have, but the power you
can borrow, and not who you, are but who you know. There’s a
story behind each and every one of these relationships. What is
the story with your character and her contacts?

Decker- Jimmy Nelson (Jammer) is another kid from the hood who wasn’t on the streets enough to fall in with the gangs and too smart not to make something of himself.  Jimmy and Devon are the same age so they got on well and built a solid friendship.  Jimmy also does IT for the clinic.

Fixer- Three-Toes is that guy from the neighborhood who handles the ‘business’ and keeps things cool.  They have a purely professional relationship, but the dwarf is the one who Devon went to to put the word out that he was looking for shadowwork.  For the record, Devon knows for a fact his feet are pristine, and will NEVER ask about his name.

Talismonger-  The Curio Corner is a little shop on the edge of the neighborhood, it is run by a couple of old folks who met a long time ago.  The man is a Cat shaman (Tom) and his wife is a hermetic (Theresa) so they make it work.  When he decided to get into the game he went to them for his foci and was allowed to help make them, so there is a bond there.

Ganger- Danny Broxton is another kid Jimmy and Devon’s age from the hood.  He was not nearly as lucky as the other two and went down a different path, but they have history, so he is one of those guys he knows.

• It’s Sunday morning, and your character has no commitments
until tomorrow afternoon. What does she do for the day?

Unless he has specific plans, he probably is either sleeping or putting in a shift at the clinic.  Or helping someone organize a protest for something on Monday.

• Your character has a specific skill set, a list of Active and
Knowledge skills that define what she knows and her areas of
expertise. How did she come to learn those skills, and how did
she develop them to those levels?

From having a foot in two very different worlds and living in the same area his whole life.

• Everyone has their limits. People can be dark, but most people’s
instinct is to draw the line at certain actions and thoughts, and
they keep to their own moral convictions. Is there a moral limit
that your character enforces on the jobs she takes, and in what
shadow work would she refuse to engage?

Wetwork, anything that harms large groups of innocents, he is a Robin Hood runner (probably more Friar Tuck)

• If you have an Awakened or technomancer character, consider
your character’s tradition and streams. Even within the major
established magical traditions and the recently emerged technomantic
streams, there is room for personalization. Ask yourself
what drew her to that particular paradigm, how does it effect
the way she views the world and her magic, how does it translate
into choice of mentor spirit or paragon, and how does it affect
the appearance of the spirits or sprites you conjure or compile?

It chose him, The Protector made itself known to him as soon as his abilities emerged.  He thinks that it had been a Patron of his father’s line all the way back and was waiting for someone with the Talent to emerge.  The Protector tolerates his mother’s shamanistic ways because of a deep connection to her totem (Bear).  His spirits are tools, but they deserve respect, kind of like capable underlings.

• While acceptance and bias vary from place to place, augmentations—
be they bio-, cyber-, gene-, or nanoware—are increasingly
common and available in the Sixth World. However, personal
technological enhancement is rarely cheap, and many implants
that runners possess are restricted. How did your character
come to have the enhancements she has, how were they paid for,
and what motivated the choices she made (if she did make
the choices)?

He doesn’t have any, but he has no problem with them, he just knows he doesn’t need them as long as he has magic.

• Life as a shadowrunner is by definition outside the bounds of
“normal” life. Shadowrunners do not truly fit into the lives of
ordinary people, whether they live in slums or mansions. What
does your character think of ordinary life, mainstream culture,
and those who abide by it?

He loves and protects ordinary people, especially the ones in his neighborhood.

• Everyone has nightmares. Sometimes, we forget the dream
completely on waking. Sometimes, the nightmare haunts us or
even recurs. If your character had a lingering nightmare or a
deep-rooted fear, what would it be, and why does he find it so
terrifying?

He has a doctor’s deep fear of making a mistake that kills someone, without arrogance that it can’t happen.

• People tend to attach sentimental value to items in their possession
or people they are close to. They make an effort to
keep these close by and safe. What is your character’s “sacred
object” or “close one,” and how did they come to be so important
to him?

His foci are precious to him, they are thick bracers, one with a sword and one a shield, he helped create them.

• One of metahumanity’s greatest assets is its ability to look toward
the future and imagine a better life. Even small children
have dreams about what they want to be when they grow up.
What did your character want to become when he was a child,
and wha
t are his goals now?

Same, make his parents happy, help people.

• A person’s appearance can say volumes about him. From fashion
sense, to the colors he prefers, to the way he walks and speaks.
Sometimes, his personality determines his appearance, and,
sometimes, the appearance he chooses to present the world effects
his personality. What does your character look like, and
what inspired his choices?

Form follows function, he doesn’t do a lot of frivolous things, but he understands style.

• Everyone has a name, but a runner’s street name is a representation
of his connection to the shadows. Sometimes runners
choose their own moniker, but more often it is given to them as
a nickname or earned through some (mis)adventure. How did
your character come to be known by his street name?

He was given the name because of his low key nature and skillset, and the fact that the hothead Samurai who gave it to him was convinced he would be dead in a year.

Isidora Salazar was born into one of South America’s most successful smuggling families. A (SINless) native of Peru, she was taught the basics of the trade at an early age and was accompanying runs by the age of 12. By the time she was 16 her uncle had sponsored her for her first control rig implant and she began training as a pilot. She quickly became one of the organization’s most effective smugglers, instrumental moving huge numbers of people and products in and out of Amazonia.

Somehow Amazonia caught wind of the operation and was able to track one of the smugglers (no one knows who) back to their base. The base was attacked suddenly and explosively. Isidora almost managed to escape in her plane, but was shot down a short distance away. She crash-landed in the rainforest, sustaining heavy damage to her right side in particular. She was pulled from the wreckage by Brian Delaney, an accomplished smuggler based way up north in Seattle. Delaney managed to escape pursuit and get both Isidora and himself to safety. With the help of some cyberware, Isidora was soon on her feet again and together they travelled back to Seattle where Brian helped her start a new life. As far as either of them knows, they were the only ones to survive the attack, and no one knows they did.

Since adopting Seattle as her new home, Isidora has taken the name Regina Merlo on her fake SIN, and she uses the moniker “Kite” when on a smuggling run or, more recently, a Shadowrun.

I hope to find some time tomorrow for a bit of in dept analysis, but for the moment "Flashbacks" got my attention. I hope you realize that this quality can severely impact you at a very inopportune moment. What kind of trigger did you have in mind?
Title: Re: Coming soon - Panzerknacker
Post by: badneighbor on (23:38:06/09-15-16)
Yeah, I wanted to use it as sort of a PTSD from having her plane shot down. I thought large explosions would be a good trigger for that.
Title: Re: Coming soon - Panzerknacker
Post by: Volker on (05:32:49/09-16-16)
I think it's worth pointing out that bnc, while not being a full-blown rigger, has an implanted control rig. Up until now, she's done the rigging, too. That said, I think we can think of it more as a potential for synergy rather than competition. That is, if bnc likes her ^^ and, a more dubious proposition, the same is true the other way round
Title: Re: Coming soon - Panzerknacker
Post by: badneighbor on (08:53:52/09-16-16)
I'm still reading through the previous missions, I wasn't aware bnc got a control rig. I don't want to step on anyone's toes; I can make something else is there's concern of too much overlap. Or, like you said, we can just make sure there's more synergy than redundancy. When kinds of rigging does bnc like to do? Right now Kite is more or less 50/50 between drones and vehicles but her backstory leans heavily toward the latter.
Title: Re: Coming soon - Panzerknacker
Post by: Jack_Spade on (11:12:25/09-16-16)
Don't worry, as I said, we have every role covered, so now we get a bit of redundancy - also bnc is more drone oriented, one more decent pilot/driver won't hurt.
Title: Re: Coming soon - Panzerknacker
Post by: Volker on (04:02:51/09-17-16)
Yeah, just create your rigger as it pleases you. bnc is no real, she's just a decker who got herself upgraded (not so much for being of more use as because she feels more alive if she knows she's actually moving through meat space). She's got no control rig booster, no whatever-this-rigger's-deck-is-called-thingy, no rigger qualities, mediocre Pilot skills and a relatively low reaction. She did use her control rig only once up to now, it's really more of a fluff thing. An experience one, to be sure, but bnc isn't so much concerned about optimizing herself.
So feel free to create your own rigger, and if he's awesome, bnc will love him.

@team: I put a post online in Pain and Gain (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=21045.msg463668#new), describing how she passes the months after our run.

Finally found the time to look over your characters.

Looks good so far, only a few questions:

@gilga: What does your code of honor forbid you from doing and which action would lose you karma?
@badneighbor: Flashbacks "Explosions" sounds fair, but since you only took the mild form I'll say it's not the sound but the visual aspect that triggers you. Sounds fair?
@Crossbow: Is the "Karma spent 50" including starting Karma? Otherwise I'd have to ask you to depower your build by 30 karma. If it's just your starting Karma + bonus karma from negative qualities, be aware that you get 20 bonus karma and 40k nuyen to catch you up to the others a bit.

That sounds fair to me. Also, I should also point out that I haven't yet spent the "catch-up" nuyen and karma. I wanted to get the base build approved first. I'll do that ASAP and update my post, alongside the 20 questions thingy.

Yael follows an some form of warrior code,  she avoids the use of lethal force at all time and  is penalized karma if she or anyone that works with her kills someone defenseless, such as a guard that surrendered or was knocked down, or someone that was at the wrong place at the wrong time and saw something he should not have seen.

I think it is the first, but I will have to take a closer look to be sure.  Either way, I have some bookkeeping to do.

If that's okay with you, I refrain from improving Reaction at this point. Since we're going to have a proper rigger, I guess I'll save the karma to spend it on edge or hacking skills later on.

If you're not going to add anything to bnc's time in-between, I'm going to roll some "lucky dice" to determine how different things evolve. I'm gonna update my post in Pain and Gain shortly.

I'd say it's about time we chose our new companions.
Shall we roleplay the interviews?

IIRC we have badneighbor as a rigger and three candidates for a mage:
 - gilga: Yael Bar
 - Raiderjoseph: Eyesight (already roleplayed the interview; let's just assume we did it AFTER the run and we never met Bluebird at all, shall we?)
 - Crossbow: Flatline

If you're in, bnc can again arrange meeting and stuff.

@gilga & Crossbow: Before we start doing any other roleplaying, can you please send me a summary of what a good matrix inquiry will dig up about your chars? related or suspected SINs, crimincal record, medical record, news, social media entries, and stuff like this.

Hey, sorry i haven't updated the online sheet

I have done the work, quick summary.  Sheet i posted was a base, did some minor mods to spells, with the additional stuff i bought 2 new skills and bonded two sustaining foci which also ate most of the money.  Remainder went to FFBA a taser.

Stuff you will find about Yael Bar in a matrix search, first you will probably search for the SIN she presents: Anna Mirochnik, as Yael is sinless.

SIN: The SIN registry says that Anna Mirochnik is an awakened human female at the age of 21 and was born in Seattle.

University:
Anna's SIN revels that she has no paper trail and lives in a single bedroom apartment in one of the less expensive dormatories of Seattle University, where she has been studying for the last three years.  Anna is enrolled to a bechlor degree in 'spellcasting for practitioners', and seems to progress well with the courses, her grades are mediocre. She needs five more courses to graduate, and she seems to struggle with the more theoretic courses. Anna is currently enrolled to a course named:
'Topologic metaplanes' for the third time in a row. This is currently her only course, and the most difficult among the courses she needs to finish.  Anna is active is in the social life of the university and attends most of the parties. She also frequently buy tickets to musical concerts.

Musical Scene:
Anna is the guitarist and one of two singers in a band called "Tractor Strikes Back" or "TSB".  They have a small core of fans, but apply to such a small society that it is evidently clear that Anna cannot sustain herself with her music. The songs seems to describe the frustrations of university life. The band also do some low paying gigs in some of the clubs playing cover gigs.  Anna also often perform in local open mike clubs where she usually sings.

Connection to the Barrens:
There are a couple sightings of Anna in a local street clinic in Redmond, that a good decker should be able to uncover. In one of the sightings, she is a care giver and in the other she is the patient. Victim of what appears to be a pistol shot.

Work:
Anna's SIN is linked in the tax report of a lawyer named Debbie Miller - that deals mainly in criminal law.

Misc:
There is a blog post that mention an Anna M, that used her 'magic' and advice to help a middle ranked manager perform well in a
an important business presentation. With a hot recommendation for Anna's services, most of the follow up complains say that the number is disconnected.  A little hacking can reveal that the the number refers to a comlink that was once used by Anna but is not used anymore, further digging reveals that Anna switches comlinks every several months. The numbers she gave the university, and these that appear online are all unused anymore.

Where did you get that fixer name?

Fixer- Three-Toes is that guy from the neighborhood who handles the ‘business’ and keeps things cool.  They have a purely professional relationship, but the dwarf is the one who Devon went to to put the word out that he was looking for shadowwork.  For the record, Devon knows for a fact his feet are pristine, and will NEVER ask about his name.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]

The ID that Devon is broadcasting is a fake.

Devon Harris' SIN was lost in the Crash.  There is not a lot of of online presence from him, until he started running he really hadn't done anything of note out side of the Oasis.  You might find him in the background imagery of some Barrens PR event or activism, but he really tries to keep a low profile.

@gilga thanks for the description. Very nice!

@Crossbow & badneighbor: Would you pleace update with the info bnc can dig up about the two of you? Or, for the first impression, what she can get outta your switched-on devices (control rig, commlink, etc.)? If there's anything indicitating that you might be more than the odd bystander, bnc is ready and willing to, uhm, investigate a bit closer. That is, she'll rape your commlink if she gets the impression you might not be here out of happenstance.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]

You really aren't going to get much from him, that is why I told you it was a fake earlier.  He looks like a normal shlub, not dressing to impress or to advertise.  Just a guy in a bar.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: badneighbor on (15:45:53/09-30-16)
Kite has a rating 4 fake SIN with a lot of associated (fake) licences: Automatic Weapons, Driver's License, Drone, Restricted Cyberware, Pilot License, Marine License, all also Rating 4. Her commlink is a Hermes Icon (device rating 5), running silent. All of her modifications are alphaware, and wireless capability would be switched on. She does not have her RCC with her.

There's no unusual activity associated with her fake SIN: she uses it for pretty mundane stuff.

Let me know if there's anything else bnc would want to know.

I'll post another IC to get Kite to the meet as soon as I can.

Hard to miss I assume, I'll write something about it. Your char is talking to bnc right so he should be right in front of Yael.

Assensing(auras) (http://orokos.com/roll/441588): 13d6t5 4

I get that she can see through the masking but I am uncertain what it means - is it like 1 hit or like 4?
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: SquirrelDude on (08:43:31/10-01-16)
I'll quote the passage and bold the relevant text

Quote from: SR5 pg 326

You learn to change the appearance of your aura (and astral form). You can make it look mundane, or make your Magic Rating look higher or lower by up to your grade. When someone tries to read your masked aura, the Assensing Test becomes opposed by your Magic + initiate grade—if they get any net hits, they see both your mask and your real aura. If you can use astral perception, you can even make your aura look like a different type (like a spirit or a focus—great for astral costume parties). You can also use this metamagic to mask the auras of as many of your bonded foci as your initiate grade.

So... GM call I guess? That it uses the phrase "net hits" makes me think its only treated as 1 hit, then it says "real aura" because SR5e rules really like being convoluted and vague sometimes.

Okay, so interesting as this job seems, it is just the kind of Italian Job/Ocean's Eleven thing I could get into, there is no way that Devon could take this job.  It is not a guaranteed million dollar job, and with no advance, he would basically be dooming his father's clinic by disappearing that long without replacement.  He has no reason to trust ANYONE here, including the Johnson, who apparently doesn't even know him well enough to understand that as a hermetic, his lab is his medicine lodge, something he will need to do the work.

I am going to try again to give a reason to stay, but this thing could just explode on the launch pad.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Jack_Spade on (03:18:37/10-10-16)
Not that I'm averse to a bit of drama or that players actually use their drawbacks, but what you are showcasing here isn't Dependents but Day Job.
Dependents just mean you have to pay more for your lifestyle. Day Job means you have to spend time every week with your job. I wouldn't have oked your character if you'd have taken the latter quality.

This isn't good.
Building Characters that don't want to go on runs is very detrimental to a smooth game. As the GM I have to juggle quite a lot already and thinking of bullshit solutions to obstacles players needlessly inflict on themselves is not fun for me.
I remember specifically not wanting Snowflakes but Professionals

TLDR: I'm slightly annoyed by this kind of play.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Crossbow on (06:40:21/10-10-16)
Yeah I can understand that, I should have gotten with you to explain this Quality before things started so it wasn't such a surprise, It isn't really a Day Job and it really isn't a case of Dependents either   It is more of a moral obligation than anything else, he actually can leave when he wants to, and the clinic wouldn't really fold without him, but that is how he sees it.

It is not a case of him being built not to go on runs, but this is a bit more than a typical run, and I have to acknowledge that as a character.  We are good now, sorry for being the problem child.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: gilga on (06:52:04/10-10-16)
You can have gems of character growth when Devon understands that he may never return to the clinic. He is going to rob a bank vault with millions in worth. It is reasonable that he cannot go back to his ordinary life afterwards.   It is deeper than somebody to fill in for him in the clinic for a couple of days. When you start stealing in millions and causing reputation damage that may even be more expensive to a bank - public knowledge of that run may collapse the bank. You have to take into account skipping town for good. If Devon comes then there is something in this run that is worth the risk, either greed, personal ambition, or a deep desire to leave that was bounded for a long time by his moral obligation. That said I am happy you resolved that issue.

Sure,
if you do your job and find them  ;)

bnc is already at it.
But just as a reminder: Teamwork makes the dream work. Everyone with one point of computer and a commlink can contribute in a team work matrix search. Every hit above the needed ones, speeds up the search by half.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]

If Torrent was with the team, I'd also suggest that he and Slobbertooth do a bit of meatspace B&E, but I don't know whether or not we have the gear for that.

Anna has some of the qualities of Torrent, she is a good sneak she is great with disguise+impersonation combo and she can palm small items quite efficiently.  I think she can do reasonably well B&E only thing she misses is the technical skills to baypass locks but if we do not have them perhaps we can use automatic tools.

@badneighbor

If no one else did, bnc brought the team's Black Rover 2072 w/ a Ruhrmetal SF-200 HMG.
She herself owns a MCT-Nissan Rotodrone w/ a Cavalier Arms Brockett EBR and 3 Noizquitos. She'll give her authority over those drones if they do get along well.

@Jack_Spade

Matrix Search (http://orokos.com/roll/446893): 20d6t5: 9 9 [20d6t5=2, 5, 3, 6, 3, 5, 4, 5, 4, 1, 6, 1, 2, 6, 4, 5, 2, 6, 4, 5]

I myself have 13 dice for the roll (5 INT + 6 Computer + 2 Hot sim, if I didn't miss anything).
So, depending on teamwork hits, I get the following results:

additional dicehits scored
0+5
1+6
3+7
5+8
7+9

So help me out, boys and girls! Roll your teamwork tests!
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: gilga on (14:24:51/10-18-16)
Anna can augment BNC's intuiton while she is searching the matrix to make her sharper, will bnc be open for that kind of help?
She is not very tech savvy otherwise.
Increase intuition F5 (http://orokos.com/roll/446902): 15d6t5 7
drain (http://orokos.com/roll/446903): 10d6t5 2
no drain - +4 intuition for bnc (meaning 4 extra dice)

note that other than Anna's help that is not teamwork - teamwork can only give bnc +6 more dice if we take it to extreme.

Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Volker on (15:51:47/10-18-16)
Oh, right, thanks for pointing it out.

Under normal circumstances, bnc would not only accept, but kill for that. So please feel free to bring the topic up at any point in our sidethread. While wie proceed with the main thread, let's just assume she accepted.

I just realized that it's not even possible to digest more than 6 hits, but we can compensate for a whole lot of negative dice pool modifiers. I guess you don't have to roll. Even if we apply the highest modifiers (Obscure and On another grid) bnc just needs one single die to even find "Actively Hunted and Erased" info. We should find roughly everything there is to be found. And their family.

Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Jack_Spade on (17:02:37/10-19-16)
One piece at a time. Setting up the right mix of relevant data and red herings is an art form. Especially since you won't be able to get answers to all those questions through a simple search check.

But let's see:

- Who else is interested in the sale?
No-one you can find online - which doesn't mean anything. Tom could have told any number of people directly without using his commlink. But since you are in the round with his close friend, it's likely you get your chance before the other potential renters.

- Has there been any communication between them and the vendor?
That question should be answered by your hack (unless you mean someone else with vendor. I am speaking of Tom Masterson, the landlord)

- Has there been any communication between Mr. Schmitt and the vendor?
None that you could find. And Schmitt certainly doesn't want any direct connection between himself and the boat house. That's why he hired you after all.

- How is the decision going to be made? Is there anything known about the process?
or the criteria?
None that you can find. But you can guess that it's going to be the usual: Stable financial situation, good conduct with the property and its upkeep, sympathetic first impression with Tom and his wife, implying to be a good connection for their interests and jobs.

- Who else has got a say in the decision? Can the family veto? Or his wife?
They both have to agree on a renter. The family would have to prevent you from signing the lease - which they only could if they were present. Once that is done they'd have to go to court to get you out - which isn't likely to be successful from their perspective.

Hi, Jack does Anna have enough

Assuming that Anna would like to impersonate/disguise I'll roll some dice.

Improve intuition (for disguise) (http://orokos.com/roll/448368): 15d6t5 7
drain (http://orokos.com/roll/448369): 10d6t5 1 1 drain intuition is raised by 4.

Disuguise (http://orokos.com/roll/448370): 15d6t5 3  - not her brightest roll. Anyone with high intuition... please help me out in here.

If she get to also augment her disguise with impersonation:  Now Anna will probably approach Whitman with an active improve charisma spell - but I have not rolled it yet, I'll add dice before she actually go.
(do not want to be too speculative before I know if Anna has enough material to attempt impersonation in the first place).

Impersonation (http://orokos.com/roll/448371): 9d6t5 7

- wow nice!

So with impersonation (providing they are similar enough for disguise/impersonation) 10 hits means that most observers are incapable of telling the difference between the two. (due to mental limit) it will not fool forensic but should be enough for our needs.

Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Jack_Spade on (07:30:02/10-23-16)
With your skills it really is no problem to impersonate her - especially since Whitman has likely never seen Tschernenko before in person.

For you disguise roll: Teamwork guys: Even if you don't have it, roll INT-1 to help her with her outfit.  ;)

What would be the impact of a critical glitch on a teamwork check?
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Jack_Spade on (09:15:23/10-23-16)
Are you speaking hypothetical?

"If any assistant rolls a critical glitch, then the leader receives no adjustments to the relevant limit, in addition to the regular effects of a critical glitch. A glitch prevents that assistant from adding an adjustment to the limit."

In that case I'd say you were a bit to enthusiastic with adding something to the disguise and poked her in the eye or drew blood.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: gilga on (09:46:18/10-23-16)
That is going to be hilarious!

Jack is there a way to try again (with -2 I think?) because it seems that that miserable roll is not going anywhere. I rolled the six possible cooperation dice:
 disguise cooperation (http://orokos.com/roll/448624): 6d6t5 0

(Alternatively, I'll just spend some edge, but we do not seem in any sort of hurry.).
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Jack_Spade on (09:54:20/10-23-16)
Sure, standard retry -2
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: gilga on (09:59:35/10-23-16)
2nd try seems more reasonable, I'll keep it:
retry disguise (http://orokos.com/roll/448636): 13d6t5 4
retry cooperation (http://orokos.com/roll/448638): 6d6t5 2

Anna needs 3 additional dice to upgrade her (2nd try disguise from 4 to 6).

Rolling 1-2 dice makes you wonder about these kind of things.

Wait... Oh right Int is intuition and not intelligence (can you tell i play pathfinder?). I have a better one of those.

Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Jack_Spade on (10:28:49/10-26-16)
I'd argue that everyone should weigh in on that kind of planing. After all this is nearly 3/4 of what a successful run consists of  ;)

For example you should be excited at the possibility to act as the get away driver for Krestov on his little outing. Anna likewise will need a lift and scouting out Crow on the Island should be also high on your agenda.

This is a heist with lots of preparation and I want to include everyone in it (lack of player engagement invariably leads to drop outs). Getting back in the story only gets harder the longer you don't participate.

@Boom Anna suggested her astral overwatch saying that it should only be a few minutes, she can astrally project to the scene and warn you about people making sure that rooms are empty and so forth, and if you need magic her spirit can use a wide array of powers like concealment...
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Volker on (18:19:12/11-04-16)
bnc only needs a short span of time to recover from the frist frustrarting attempt. I guess, quarter an hour should do. GM call. Anyway, the exact span doesn't matter.

The point I'm trying to make is: I already (succesfully) rolled the test. So we do have the position. If it's not too confusing for you, there's no reason not to roleplay the two situations simultaneously. Anna and bnc are the only ones involved in both parts. So I think it's safe to fast-forward to the Whitman encounter.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]

Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Volker on (05:58:57/11-08-16)
I did all the rolls in the same post. First with all dice, then at -2, then at -4, then the re-roll without penalty a time later.

Not five minutes later Krestov got the message from Sanchez: <<Seems to be our lucky day. Our suspect had the murder weapon in his possession after a patrol encountered the scene of a domestic disturbance. Believe it or not, he really tried to defend himself with the story, that a huge troll broke into his house dropped the weapon and ran away.
I'm sure prosecutor Coleman wouldn't want to miss that case even for the funeral of his mother.>>

Hi Jack having Anna grappled is okay with me, but as she is non combatant (and unarmed as I cannot imagine her bringing a gun to that date) and do not even want to harm Charles - Anna is very much likely to use full defense (she'll just want to GTFO as Charles clearly is mad enough to call the police or something).

In case you allow her to full defense:
full defense dice (http://orokos.com/roll/455801): 5d6t5 2

In case you do not allow her to full defense but allow edge use:
edge reroll faliures (http://orokos.com/roll/455802): 6d6t5 3

In case you allow any of these Anna will not attack Charles, but instead run away as fast as she can, trying to get away with the apartment, possibly knocking off some expensive statue to slow Charles down. I imagine her to be completely terrified by his sudden violent side as she did not anticipate it going to blows.

Initiative (http://orokos.com/roll/455808): 10+1d6 13

I am waiting for your input to whether or not Anna can avoid being grappled, if she is grappled I am asking can she attempt a social roll, e.g. trying to kiss Charles and say something like "Take me like a man" or something like that.

(or try to intimidate him by losing his job, or being sued for assault/rape whatever.)

In case she cannot do social rolls well, let me sleep about it, I guess she can expose herself being a mage or hope that he is not going to punch her senseless. As a STR 1 vs STR 4 she is so physically inferior that she is never getting out of that grapple without either magic, or passing out.  (I am not even sure that the stun bolt spell is such a catch in that case).

At least these are my current thoughts about the situation.

Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Jack_Spade on (13:13:17/11-13-16)
I can tell you now that Charles is an absolute and utter psychopath
Full defense is not something I'd allow in a surprise attack, but Edge use certainly is.

So you can escape and run towards the elevator (or out of sight and use invisibility because the elevator needs an authorization by Charles (or a certain hacker)
This will turn into a hide an seek game until bnc can free you (or allow one of the guys access to bring you out)

In case I haven't mentioned it: Teamwork makes the dream work and back up muscle is never wrong  ;)
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: gilga on (14:07:13/11-13-16)
Does Charles have a balcony?

Anna can use levitate to escape through a balcony and she is not in such a bad shape because she has services left on her spirit. The challenge for her is not to harm Charles because doing so may have other kinds of complications considering how rich he is.

Jack shouldn't a failed sleaze action alert Anna to the attack?  Because if she knows someone is hacking her, she'll just close the link to remain invisible, knowing that communication will be spotty but she may need the link later. (also why wouldn't Anna go full matrix defense ?)

(also why wouldn't Anna go full matrix defense ?)

Why would she? She isn't even expecting a matrix attack.

@Jack

I'm afraid, I need clarification before we can proceed.

Regarding the teammates: Should have is something entirely different from "has". I can't remember anyone declaring they back her up. IIRC Slob is watching Anna T. and it would make sense that he perform the abduction, too. Thus Krestov would be free, but again, he didn't mention he was observing Yael.
Does that mean he did it anyway?

Regarding matrix security:

I don't quite understand. If the commlink is connected to the host, he would have had 15 dice from the beginning. Since he only rolled 10, I assumed that he wasn't in the host that very moment. Also, I wouldn't expect him to, because he then can't interact with the whole of the matrix, except for calls and messages. Basically, his commlink would become useless for private purposes. Except of course, security and controlling the penthouse, if they allow him to run his private property over the corp host.

So, was he offline when I first hacked him and entered the host the very moment after? Or did I get the rules wrong.
Because, when he's in the host, I can't even access him without following him into the host. So if he was in the host from the beginning, the whole situation couldn't have happened the way it did, neither with 15 dice nor with 10.

Sorry if I make things more complicated than they are. I just can't follow with options I have and why.
But I'm happy there are sprinklers.

@Back up
Frankly, I'm leaving the decision to you players.
It's one of the hazards when you have players with different response times, but I didn't want  to pause the story for so long. So now we have a disjointed timeline where you can retro actively decide who and if there is back up waiting.

@Matrix

It's a bit complex but it looks like this:

His commlink is not slaved to anything - mainly because if he would lose it it would allow someone to get a MARK on a Security host
That's why it's rather easy to get a mark on him (he has only 10 resistance dice)

The utilities in his penthouse are slaved to the houses Security host because they are physically protected from direct attacks. (so they benefit from 15 resistance dice)
But the house isn't the owner of those devices - Whitman has ownership (4 MARKs) on his doors etc., which allows you to spoof a command that seems to originate from his commlink.

But as the posted rules text states you do not role against the commlink but against the device which means against the host's defenses.

The confusion comes from the difference between slaving something and owning it. You don't have to be the owner to slave something (otherwise a Decker could not provide Defense for his team mates, as the example in the core rule book tells us)

@Back Up

Okay, that makes perfect sense.

@Matrix

Whoops, this is embarassing. You even posted the rule text and I still missed it. Asche über mein Haupt.

Still, this is not possible. He can't interact with icons within the host, if he's not within the host. Otherwise, everyone would just slave anything to a host and thus provide maximum security without restraints.

My thoughts are this, unless someone specifically requested his astral cover, Flatline would be back at base, studying golf or being a meatspace monitor for bnc. Regardless of request by Yael, he could not be anywhere that would help as of yet, as an astral overwatch would give any indication of problem since I assume he would be outside the most likely warded building.

@Volker
He can, he just has to use the matrix action "Send Message" to control those devices

@Qwikfix
Yeah, I realize I've maneuvered you into a bit of a complicated situation.
For the moment you can assume that whatever happens with Tschernenko, it will likely be over before the Whitman operation begins. So you can just describe how you are relieving Slobber from watching Tschernenko eat and use that Russian Troll charm to get her drinking with you ;)

@Crossbow
As a generous GM I'd like to remind you that both you and Yael are perfectly capable of calling up spirits that can provide aid in the material world at a moments notice (Spirit of men with Invisibility and Concealment wouldn't even blow your cover)

For the record, Slobbertooth can probably incapacitate Whitman without firing a shot, if only cause  Whitman will have trouble actually hitting him. Doing so without putting Whitman's life in jeopardy (unless brass knuckles can do non-lethal) is less likely, but I'll leave that call to the people planning things at the moment.

I do not mind this solution - angry boyfriend or something, but we will need Slobber to take the elevator for it.

Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Volker on (15:01:33/11-14-16)
@Jack But if he interacts with a message that will then be interpreted, the fooled object is not the door in the host, but the commlink itself, leaving him with 11 dice. In my opinion, that's how a host works. If you directly control it, the host can use it's resources to verify the acteur's identity. If it, however, just follows instructions in a message, it doesn't have more material than that. Spoof Command only gets the full protection if I send a "command", that is, directly control the object. What would you say: If I try to fake a message from, say, Slobbertooth to Krestov, would I have to roll against Slob's link or K's? I'd argue that I would roll against Slob.
But you're the GM. If you say, the host still provides protection, it does.

@Quikfix/Squirrel In case you're here, you can assume that the message didn't only go to Flatline but also to your character(s). Also, she provides a lifestream.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: gilga on (15:18:07/11-14-16)
Can Anna connect her link directly to the door or something? (like a datatap?)
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Jack_Spade on (15:29:12/11-14-16)
@Volker

I'm sorry, that's what the rules tell me. Faking a message can be done two ways (as I explained before):

Spoof Command (Meaning you have a Mark on Slobs Link but need to roll against Krestovs Link)
Edit File (Meaning you have a Mark on Krestovs Link and roll against Krestovs Link)

But  I have a trick/solution for you up my sleeve: p.178 DT

GARBAGE IN/GARBAGE OUT (COMPLEX ACTION)
Marks Required: 3 Test: Software + Logic [Sleaze] vs. Logic + Firewall
This allows a decker to “cross the wires” of a single device, confusing its input and output commands. Only a single input can be changed to correspond to a single output—devices can’t be reprogrammed wholesale or made to act in a manner outside of their original design through Garbage In/Garbage Out. For example, a smartgun-enabled firearm could be reprogrammed so that every time the fire command is given (through either pulling the trigger or DNI), the clip—or even the magazine—ejects. An elevator could be reprogrammed to go to the 23rd floor instead of the lobby, but a decker can’t override its basic safety protocols since that would require multiple commands. Gamemasters have final say in what can and cannot be reprogrammed, but the rule of thumb should be “a single keystroke” of activity or the inversion of a binary relationship—the “friend or foe” recognition program in a smart safety system, for example. Rebooting the device restores the code to its proper state.

Now all you have to do is rewire the "take a call" action with the "open the balcony door" action

@gilga
If you heeded bnc's advice you should already have data taps in your inventory :D
That said, no, since this would only benefit you if the device was offline and you wanted to bring it online.
One thing you could do would be to steal Whitman's commlink, although that is a highly risky move.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: gilga on (15:33:56/11-14-16)
Another idea:
Slobbertooth gets to Whitman's car and calls him telling him that if he does not let his 'girlfriend' out of the penthouse the car is ruined.

I think Anna can try to steal the link as well - but the problem is her physical limit of 4 so she cannot be 'that' good at it even with dice luck. She can kick it up to 6 with improve reflexes though.

Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Volker on (01:36:34/11-15-16)
@Jack

I still interpret it differently, as "command" and "message" are two different things entirely. But I absolutely and fully accept your interpretation. So, if you are interested we can continue the thought exchange PM-wise. If not, well, not. :)

I never new there were new Matrix Actions in Data Trails! woohoo This changes about everything. Meow, gets my juices flowing :D

All right, I'll just roll all the dice in advance, then do the IC stuff later.

2nd pass: First, I need to eradicate the marks he must have on me for failing Sleaze actions. I can't hope to escape his awareness forever, even outraged and all.

Free Action: Swap Attack for Sleaze
Complex Action: Erase Mark (http://orokos.com/roll/456281): 15d6t5 7
Opposed Roll (http://orokos.com/roll/456282): 10d6t5 3

Complex Action: Erase Mark (http://orokos.com/roll/456283): 15d6t5 5
Opposed Roll (http://orokos.com/roll/456284): 10d6t5 4
Free Action: Swap Sleaze for Attack
With Fade into Black, this also counts as Hide.

With this, combat round 3 ends. I'll post combat round 4 in my next post to give you the chance to respond. Please note that if you just missed the fact that he should have already had a possibility to notice me and would inform Zody about me, I might not bother with hiding any more. Might not. Dunno now. So in case this happens, please allow me to withdraw from actions already posted that happened subsequently.

Initiative (http://orokos.com/roll/456285): 4d6+10 26

@gilga

If you would have a datatap with you, there would also be another possibility. You plug in your commlink into the door you want to open, then attach the data tap to the wire and thus allow me to directly access the door.
But with this new Matrix Action, I'm gonna get you out in no time. I think ^^

Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Jack_Spade on (11:02:55/11-15-16)
I just remembered why I didn't let Whitman react to the failed hack: The MARK for the failure would have been from the Host not Whitman. So neither he nor the Hacker would have known about the attempt immediately.

Never mind now. Just assume that the host informed him about a fake command to his devices.

About the elevator: bnc never opened the elevator as she never beat the hosts defenses.
The opening of the elevator is entirely Charles' doing, trying to lure Anna out.

@Volker
SInce there has been a bit of confusion, I'd suggest to start a new matrix ini after Charles has made his offer to Anna.
Also you need to define which action of his will transfer command level to the public since he still can revoke that right with a normal command (as that isn't cross wired)
You could - for example - use the command "Accept Phone Call" to change the output to "Give the Public Access to Elevator Control"
If you want to prevent him from revoking that right, you'll have to GIGO the command "Revoke Public Access to Controls" with something else again, for example: "Grant Public Access Even Harder"
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Volker on (12:52:29/11-15-16)
Uhm. This is one hell of a collection of misunderstandings, it seems ^^

I had 5 hits in the Spoof Command roll, he had 3. You then rolled the 2 additional hits for the extra dice from the host protection, and said it would be a good investment to spend 1 point of edge to break the tie, to which I replied, that I now, depending on what you count, have spent 1 or 2 points of edge. Which was a complicated and apparently confusing way to say "yep".
Well, at least that means that I haven't wasted this point of edge, I guess...

Some things definitely went completely wrong -.-
Now I didn't attack the important thing in the first place (cause I thought that I have spare dice en masse), nor did I complete the distraction I planned from the beginning. Hell, who cares ;-D it's boring when everything runs smooth!

I swap the command "Send voice message" to "Give public access to Balcony door control". I don't think there is a necessity to prevent him from revoking. If he, after the system informed him that I tried to access the elevator, enters his host in the middle of everything to double-check the access rights of a still closed balcony door in, what?, the 12th floor or something, I will not only appreciate he bested me, but also give up my life as a shadowrunner in order to become his willing padawan. ^^ It's not only about throwing dice around, but also about outwitting each other.

@gilga

Basically it means that you'll be able to open the door yourself by simply sending a message to it. It'll recognize you as authorized.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Jack_Spade on (13:15:53/11-15-16)
Oh, now I see. Yeah sorry, that went straight past me  ;D

And yes, this combination works.

Just one thing: Being slaved to a host doesn't mean an Icon is automatically in the host. Hacking a WAN's host just means you have direct connection to all slaved devices.

p. 233 core
"There are also wide area networks, or WANs, with multiple devices slaved to a host. A host can have a practically unlimited number of devices slaved to it, but because of the direct connection hack you rarely see more devices than can be protected physically. If you are in a host that has a WAN, you are considered directly connected to all devices in the WAN. Only devices can be slaves, masters, or part of a PAN. In a WAN, the slaves must be devices, and the master must be a host. "

Also about the difference between slaving and ownership, which makes me retract my previous statement on noticing the MARK from the failed Spoof Command:
"There are risks to slaving devices. Because of the tight connections between the devices, if you get a mark on a slave you also get a mark on the master. This happens even if the slave was marked through a direct connection, so be careful about who you give your slaved devices to. This doesn’t work both ways; if you fail a Sleaze action against a slaved device, only the device’s owner gets the mark on you, not the master too."

As the owner of the device Whitman would have gotten the MARK on you, not the Host. So all in all the IC info is correct  ;D

Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Volker on (14:39:13/11-16-16)
Hoi!

Altough it's not strictly speaking relevant, I'd like to explain how my last IC post developed. Over a span of about 45 minutes (as my girlfriend didn't fail to remind me) I wrote the post, deleted it, edited it, posted it again, deleted it again, changed it once more, posted. And maybe once more, I'm not really sure.

In my first post I summarized and rolled the Hack on the Fly. As I saw that you beat me, I wrote that I use edge to avoid him getting a mark on me (which was vital for my plan).
Then I went through my subsequent options and thought it wise to Fully Defend as well. That's why I double-checked the rules and found that the CRB states it works only against Attack actions (I only use the English version, as I thought it would be the more accurate one). Thus, I found that she wouldn't get a mark on me and deleted my already rolled edge roll. Retrospectively, I should have left a paragraph like "I saw that we used Full Defense different before, so if we do it again, I'd edge with following roll." I thought about it, and I can't tell for sure why I discarded the idea. I guess lazyness.

Then I was wondering why he would have a mark on me, as I had done everything to avoid it (i.e. spend edge, which I then thought unnecessary). The only thing that occured to me was that he tried to Hack me the same way I did to him. This was a clear error in my thinking. I had discarded the possibility of a failed Sleaze action for me, but I forgot, that for you it was still the only valid option.

So, it wasn't intenionally "double standard"ing. I just tried to do this according to the rules in the English CRB. If I had had the correct rules, I would never have gotten marked in the first place.
I also pointed out that Whitman should have a mark on me, didn't I?

I guess I should not have edited the already written post in the first place. bnc would never have allowed Zody to mark her and thus also find her position, when she had the change to unleash all her powers on him. She's frustrated to no end that she blew the chance. I'm only glad that she doesn't know that I'm responsible for it ^^

Well, at least I didn't waste another point of edge. Still, it's not exactly where I wanted this to head, which is slightly annoying since this happened twice within one encounter (first the elevator, then the fight with Zody).
One lesson I learned from that is that I should not only describe my actions, but also my objectives and considerations.

Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: gilga on (14:58:14/11-16-16)
Well I hope it did not frustrate you too much, I enjoyed the scene very much on my scene and bnc kind of saved the day. I think that we got the solution we wanted without  physically hurting Charles.  The information Anna hid - that she was invisible and things like that - was to avoid that information leaking.  (she kind of try to keep the fact that she used magic to herself.)

I think bnc did great even if there were some difficulties, eventually it was a really tense and enjoyable scene.

Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Volker on (16:04:23/11-16-16)
I absolutely enjoyed the scene a lot. If the first misunderstanding had not happened (i.e. if I had known that I roll against 16, not 10, dice from the beginning), I would have spent all my energy into just opening the balcony from the beginning. It would have been way more elegant and Whitman would never have known that there's been a decker around. But it would also have never become this exciting.

I regret the second misunderstanding a bit. For the run, it's better: I have one more point of edge, there was no objective to accomplish, and we might have made an enemy to reckon with. But bnc would have loved to kick some ass.

Still, it was/is awesome.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Jack_Spade on (16:18:40/11-16-16)
No harm done - it's one of the hazards of pbp that you can only avoid by repeating information and explaining everything detailed and clear (which doesn't prevent misunderstandings entirely, especially if the reader happens to be tired at the time.
At the same time it's always useful to get questioned now and again and revise your knowledge with the books.

Speeking of which, here is the German rules text for Full Matrix Defense:

p.241
Volle Matrixabwehr
(Unterbrechungshandlung)

Translation: The difference is between the English version (Attack actions) and the German (matrix actions), so full defense works against all enemy matrix actions. Which is good, otherwise the Attack actions would be even worse than they already are.

Post by: Volker on (01:06:30/11-17-16)
I agree it makes sense. Take only the situation with Anna as an example. On other hand, it's incredibly powerful.

At any rate, yeah, pbp works differently, I saw that again. In RL, it would have done just to describe my actions. In pbp, it's better also to describe the intentions in order to avoid misunderstandings.

@Volker - I think we already resolved the whole Whitman thing and it happened after the Anna T thing. As if, they are late afternoon and the other thread is at night. Thing is, we don't know yet how the Tschernenko op ends. If she ends up in jail we have to do things differently than if she drinks herself to death with Special K. bnc is first and foremost interesting in sorting out how to clear the situation. Only after that, she'd be willing to talk to Anna.

But, after we already have shredded the space time continuum to pieces, we can play the real life conversation afterwards (in our seperate IC channel) - though I see no benefit in that.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: gilga on (12:40:15/11-19-16)
Well the way I see it it is kind of minor - if Anna is arrested she'll miss the meeting (she disabled herself) if she is not arrested then Whitman will hopefully be mad enough to have her arrested.
Whitman is taken care off as we planted forbidden drugs in his cars, that got to embarrass him a bit.

The thing we're playing now is likely are we to pay in the longer term for our sins (e.g. if Anna T has an alibi than Whitman knows it was someone else that destroyed his painting).

"I guess I can add it later on, too, if that suits your plan better.
Don't leave her DNA within her, eight-six-eight-two.
Cheers, mate, mate and cheer"

bnc gives him a second to respond, then cuts the voice channel. She'll be available anytime but she figured it's easier for him to flirt when no one's listening.
I mean, I get that Krestov is a troll and all, but I don't think even he's quite that prolific.

Slobbertooth will be in his armored jacket, wearing his glasses (imagelink, vision enhance 3), earbuds (audio enhance 3), Micro Transceiver, Transys Avalon commlink, and armed with his Ruger. The HK-227 and his helmet will be kept in the truck. I'll bring the big guns for the real thing. If necessary, he can drive his own vehicle.

Some facial work will need to be done to hide his tusks as his face won't be hidden.

Teamwork:
Ettiquete teamwork (http://orokos.com/roll/467056): 4d6t5 0

Huh? If you did I notice it IP. I asked you if you didn't want to contact him already in the evening but as far as I remember, you said early morning was good enough.

Apologies for the lull, holidays and whatnot.  I will post this evening.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]

Christmas is always a busy time.

I just hope, now that Christmas is over, everything goes a bit smoother than before. When we started this, we agreed to roughly one post per player per day, except for weekends or holidays or personal events that keep one from posting.
Since we left the base on Dec 12th, there have been a total of 25 player posts (i.e., gm posts not counted). This is an average of 8 per week, where we agreed on about 30. Or 25, if we don't count badneighbor, who hasn't posted in two months or longer.
I'm not saying that the forum is more important than real life. But especially those short posts don't take more than 2 or 3 minutes, and if we want to keep this game up, we should post a little bit more frequently (this is explicitly not directed at gilga or Jack).

Looking forward to 2017!
Happy new year!

I have thus collected 31 Karma, of which I use 30 to raise Intuition to 6.

Do we have to pay any lifestyle costs (already)?
I'm ready to go for part 2! :)

EDIT: I guess we're gonna need someone to steer the boat. Now the question is, what are we going to do with Kite? If she's coming along as a NPC, I guess she could invest some of the karma into the skill. If we let the char vanish, I guess, bnc will have to do the task. In that case, I'd wait a bit to raise Intuition, and invest in this instead.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: gilga on (07:29:50/01-15-17)
Well Yael has natural high 5 reaction that can be boosted to 9 with a dash of magic - so a level or two with pilot water craft makes her a good skipper. Though, perhaps bnc is the better potential skipper - due to the control rig.  Also improved reaction spell can also be shared around.

Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]

For now I'd just keep Kite as an NPC and have her remote rig from the base, so you effectively have two support characters around.

That post was kinda heavy, but in character for Devon.  Protector coming out to play a bit.

Just wanted to say that it is character, not player, if there is a concern, I have having a good time here.

I will take the opportunity though to say I was expecting more give and take with the GM than I have seen for the first bit, but if that isn't how this will be I can try to adjust.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]

What exactly do you mean by "give and take"?

I admit, that so far I haven't really given you strong opposition - the first part was a classic milk run. But that won't be the case with the next part.

Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]

No offense taken :) I know that bnc is a character who's difficult to work with. To be honest, I was amazed by how patient and forgiving you all were towards her ;-)

About the "give and take", I have to say that in my case, it's a bit of the opposite. I'm not used to a GM who influences the characters' decision. I like to do this on my own. Of course, this is a bit differnt in pbp, where players tend to forget about stuff that happened months ago.

Interaction with NPCs, pushing the narrative.

Oh, and I was worried that I'm giving Schmitt and Mike to much screentime and railroad you too much.
It's quite a bit of a balancing act to keep everyone involved, so I tend to keep the NPCs back so there's more focus on inter-party-action.

@Volker
That's actually one of the things I really like about pbp: You can always go back and reread things you and the GM have written.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: gilga on (08:21:46/01-17-17)
Well, I just love how it all imploded ;)  Nice post Volker - classic bnc!, Flatline also for you.  I just love how their personality clashes like that.
Yael would never express her opinions like that, she is seating with proffesionals on a million dollar ticket and a chance for the excitement of a life time. As a younger, less established runner and a new mage looking to establish her reputation it will take considerably more to get her to burst up like that, especially infront of her employer.

(That she feels is giving her way too much credit - and if mages were difficult to find - he would hire someone more reputable for the job).

Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]

Yeah, me too :D thanks, I can only give that back. The roleplay between the two of them is amazing. You really add a lot to the party. And so does crossbow. Slob and Krestov were always so calm and forgiving (Krestov) or unaffected (Slob) that they could work perfectly with her, but it also wasn't as thrilling as what just happened. :)

I am not actually sure about learning the spell, there is a lot about this situation as a player I am confused about.  Sensors that detect magic?
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Jack_Spade on (16:21:56/01-21-17)
FAB Sensor, p.195 Hard Targets
FAB SENSOR This sensor function can be added to any sensor package. This sensor can only determine the presence or absence of active mana sources in the immediate area, not the exact source or strength. Background count temporarily reduces the effective Rating by an equivalent amount. The bacteria sealed within the sensor require special sterile feedstock to maintain at a cost of 50 nuyen per month.

The spell in question is manascape, p.20 Shadow Spells
MANASCAPE Type: M  Range: LOS(A) Duration: S  Drain: F – 2
This spell is designed to pass illusions to the target’s magical senses. While it cannot create auras of astral images where none are present, it can change their appearance to anyone using Assensing, Psychometry, Sensing, or the Astral Window spell. False Impression only affects the image of a single spell or astral form, while Manascape changes the appearance of an area.

I hope that clears that part up :)

but what about the spell signature itself - can it be assensed?  I read many opinions on it - some interpretations made these spells considerably more useful than others.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]

By the way, Yael and Flatline are full mages - this implies that they can do astral recon without physically leaving the safe house. Specifically, Yael is very skilled in assensing - I am not saying anything IC because I do not assume that she is aware of the conversations bnc is having with the rest. bnc has  a deck in her head, but Yael is unaugmented and probably left he link in her purse.  (even if she was cc'ed).

@Jack in the case that it is magic + charisma (sorry wasn't around a book)  - can I assume that Yael augmented her charisma instead?
(her magic is 5 so the number of dice remains).

What are the consequences of her failure? can she try again? Is the ward owner alarmed?
If she can try again and have not raised alarm she will:
try again (-2) (http://orokos.com/roll/482600): 12d6t5 1
(and likely fail again - we'll need a new way to look inside - I do not believe that it is such a high priority scout anyhow.

Yeah, no problem to change, but the failure will alert the mage and the watcher will try to catch your signature, so she probably should start to erase her signature and quickly leave (after dispatching the watcher)

You might have missed it in my post:

Zola gets new girls all the time. Eve is no exception, he is meeting her for the first time.

The SOK has to be:
- Photographed
- made an imprint from
- placed on the sensor (Mike and Kite can build one within a day)

But just to be clear: If you want to replace Eve you either have to:
- Bribe the girl
- Snatch her just before the meet, replace her and afterwards have her have an "accident" (Schmitt would frown at that very, very much)
- Discreetly cancel the booking for Eve by hacking her and the Host
- Another clever option I haven't thought off

Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Jack_Spade on (08:02:59/02-17-17)
Yeah, no problem.

In other news, I'd like you to present you with a new house rule: Back ground count no longer reduces dicepools but instead decreases limits.

What do you think about this both as magic users and mundanes?

Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: gilga on (14:49:08/02-17-17)
I am fine with it, it has some benefits for Adepts - and perhaps makes Yael's health spells more powerful.  On the other hand, if it stacks with the reduced force of spells by BGC then a BGC of 2 means that you can only cast F5+ spells.  --> but I am 100% on board with any house rule you feel is necessary.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Jack_Spade on (15:55:15/02-17-17)
Not necessarily "necessary", but reading about the discussion made me realize how arbitrary it actually is for BC you are aligned to to raise your limit but un-acclimated one to lower your dice pool.

This change replaces the other effects as well: Sustained spells are temporarily reduced in their effectiveness (until you leave the BC again) likewise quickened spells.

And of course, Reagents can be used to counteract the effects...

I'd be happy to try it. As a matter of fact, I'm considering using it also for my RL group. We're playing a bunch of Aztechnology Corporate Security agents in the Yucatán war right before the big earthquake happened. Since there's terror and cruelty all over the place, massive pollution and chemical destruction, and the meanest magic in the 6th world, I went for a more or less global background count of 3 to 6. Which sucks a lot, considering that we consist of two mages and a shapeshifter. It basically made playing nigh impossible.

Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: gilga on (05:23:29/02-20-17)
Somethings before I continue with IC:
Yael is all for pushing it forward - inside she desires the danger, and she'll trust the more experienced runners.

Flatline is now an NPC - so the fact that he spent karma to contribute the disguise of this operation is of less interpersonal significance.  I would not just send a PC to study a spell and then proceed without it, I think it may cause bad feelings.

So are we going with the 'date' on the spot with less percussions?  (Seizing the opportunity that Zola does not know what eve look like or (if he is the assensing type) what her aura looks like? I think it is a reasonable decision.

Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Volker on (08:03:18/03-05-17)
@Jack: Just to clear out misunderstandings before I do something silly (again) because I have a misconception about the infrastructure:
Is she using an agent who removes and creates the file encryption of the phone log and calendar everytime she uses it, or how exactly does it work? The file cannot be changed (or read) by any means as long as it's protected. Since she'll use the calendar and log function, I assume that she will be used to regular alarms, but I don't want to count on that as long as I'm not sure we understood the line "A protected file cannot be read, changed, deleted, or copied until the protection is broken" the same way. Until now, I comprehended it that way that there is no exception: If there would be something like an authentication, I could access the file via having a mark on it. File protection, as I understood it, is for files that are kept safe, and not in regular use. If someone accesses it, the owner will get a notification.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. Your understanding of rules is usually better than mine.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Jack_Spade on (08:50:59/03-05-17)
My understanding is that as the owner of a file you can always access it with your four ownership MARKs without removing the protection. Otherwise you'd never be able to open your files again without the crack file action for which you need a deck or a dongle.

And you can't have your files unprotected on your commlink since otherwise everyone could access them as soon as they see your commlink on the matrix since reading an unprotected file does not require a MARK.

The rules are written from the perspective of the illegal hacker, not the everyday user.
Just another of the many problems of the matrix rules.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Volker on (01:15:34/03-07-17)
Whew, that's why I asked :D

but this also means, that literally everyone can create a protection that is impossible to break without being noticed; no matter how much of a noob you are, no matter how awesome the decker is. That sucks a bit, but I agree that it makes the most sense (basing on the somewhat shitty rules in this regard).
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Jack_Spade on (03:16:46/03-07-17)
Yeah, but as compensation I rule that files don't alert the system if they are under attack - they just log the attack which you can remove once you are done with your edit file action.

Ok, the main objective has been met.

If you want, we can fast forward to the next day since I certainly won't describe in detail which kinks Zola is into.
At around 2 o'clock the bodyguards change positions: Kynos goes to bed and Ramirez takes position in front of the door. Anyone listening in, will hear, that Kynos tries to tell him about Slobbertooth, but Ramirez will just ignore the Elf with a grumpy grimace.
Zola will leave the hotel at strike 8, leaving a credstick with 5000 Nuyen on it.

Sure let's fast forward - Anna would probably go in with whatever the man desires anyhow and if something is too bizarre for her she is skilled enough to refuse politely. No point in being graphic about it, I'll place her waking up, a bit overslept in the next morning.  Perhaps she and Slob can share breakfast, or quietly leave their separate way and meet a couple of blocks later if Slob insists on being professional about it.

Oh...  new gear news!

One thing I just noticed: Missed it until now.

A Disguise Kit (see Tools, p. 443) can be used to build
a Disguise, using the Building & Repairing rules (p. 146).
Add half the threshold of the Extended Test used to make
the disguise as a dice pool bonus to your Disguise Test, to a
maximum bonus of 4

Now let's think shopping for new clothes ;)
Murder armor seems really nice - 13 points armor - and Anna is skilled with performance so she can get a surprise attack if she is shot.

Second skin - also seems really fun RP wise.  - Can it be worn under normal clothes?
I am also thinking smart-wig and polychromatic lenses - do lenses stack with glasses in this game?

Any other suggestions for cool gear?
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Jack_Spade on (05:00:38/03-27-17)
Yepp, contacts and glasses can be combined - if you do it with care.
E.g. if you have R3 contacts and fill them up with Vision Enhancement, you can fill the glasses with Low Light, Smartlink, Flare Comp and Vision Magnification or Thermo.

Just don't mix tech that doesn't make sense (vision magnification in the contacts while looking at the digital image from your glasses)

Be aware, that murder armor will need to be disguised as well.
Second Skin does stack only with other Zoe stuff. But it still can be worn together with other stuff, but it won't benefit you as much.

And there are tons of cool stuff combos. Take a look at Cutting Aces and the available perfumes ;)

Other purchases - a magical lodge, earbuds and contact lenses and two extra pistols small pistols  a legal taser and a streetline special holdout. Oh and a smart wig inspired by bnc's neon hair.
I think Chummer lists all the purchases.

Will be updating my sheet at some point this week.  Dunno if I will be needing a purchase at this time.

In the meanwhile, I seem to recall a previous stipend of karma that was granted, able to be used on anything without wait times.  Is that correct, or am I mistaken?
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Jack_Spade on (14:41:21/03-27-17)
That is correct. The one week training time is more for fluff reasons - e.g. explaining how someone learned a new spell he couldn't do before.

Okay. Thank you.  I will take that into consideration as I look to improve Krestov.

(Read: as I figure out what I need to make him feel less fifth wheel in these phases of the operation.)

Alright folks, chapter 2 is done, three more to go.

You've all earned yourself 11 Karma and about a week of downtime to spend it. Schmitt will also be open to get you special gear you want up to 30.000 per person.

Slobber's first purchase. See that FBA he got. It's already as illegal as drek that shoots lasers, nad has 7 capacity left to use so let's make it more illegal. Rating 4 Ruthenium Polymer Coating that suit please ;D (20,000¥)

Argentum Longcoat to co along with the Berwick Suit (3,600¥) because if Slob is going to sneak weapons into buildings in suits, he might as well look good while doing it well.

Misc other materials
4 Thermite Burning Bars (2000¥)
2 Trauma Patchers (1000¥)
Monofilament Chaisaw (500¥)
1 Containment Manacles (250¥)
5 Plasteel Restraints (250¥)
50 Plastic Restraints (25¥)
Handheld Sensor Housing (R3 (Cyberware, MAD, Ultrasound) (300¥)
5 Hand Grenades NeuroStunX (700¥)
5 Hand Grenades NeuroStun VIII (500¥)
10 Launcher Grenades CS Gas (600¥)
2 Flash-Paks (250¥

If I mathed that out correctly, that should bring it to 29,975

Still not sure what to do with the Karma
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Jack_Spade on (05:22:40/03-28-17)
Well, there are always qi-foci to be bound for a bit of utility (Adept Spell or Assensing for example) ;)

@Qwikfix
Yeah, I'm sorry that I didn't involve Krestov better with the plan (although our charismatic troll already made some very useful impact)
Hopefully, the next part of the operation will work out better.

Also, feel free to discuss how you want to accomplish this.
bnc has by necessity taken leadership responsibility, so don't let her hang :D

Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: SquirrelDude on (10:01:27/03-28-17)
ATM I'm torn between
 - bonding the weapon foci to Slobber for 7 Karma
 - Getting a Qi Foci for astral perception or something of use (haven't priced out yet)
 - Spec Heavy PIstols for 7 Karma

I've updated Slobber's character sheet with all the new gear.

I think it's pretty clear what contingencies Slobber is planning for with that equipment, but with the sensor packages, new suit+coat, and other abilities he already has he should be fine to contribute with scouting in meat space and/or hard entry.

Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Volker on (12:42:24/03-31-17)
Hello, folks!

I'm going for:

Cybereyes rating 3      0,4 E      10000
   Low-light vision           1500
   Ocular drone             6000mac
   Vision enhancement II          8000
   Vision magnification          2000

Auto-injector + expanded reservoir        750
   Novacoke   5x    10         50
   Long Haul   5x    50        250
   Deepweed   2x   400        800
   Psyche      3x   200        600

and 1 set of plasteel restraints in case Anna needs some cool-off time ;) 50 nuyen

this should make for a total of exactly 30,000 nuyen? Or do we have to calculate the costs for the operation?

regarding karma:
What exactly did Qwikfix mean by "In the meanwhile, I seem to recall a previous stipend of karma that was granted, able to be used on anything without wait times.  Is that correct, or am I mistaken?" Does he mean the 10 points of karma we gained earlier during the run?

as for the 11 Karma: I'll acquire the speed reading quality, basically for fluff reasons (2x2 = 4 Karma), and keep the rest of the karma.

EDIT:
@all
We have one week off, in which some roleplay would fit. Something along the line of our twist the bottle. Maybe an evening in front of the TV, some game, or cinema. Something along the line. What do you think? Gerhardt is invited, too ;)
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: SquirrelDude on (19:28:32/03-31-17)
Is bnc going under the knife or is does she already have cybereyes that I forgot about?
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Volker on (03:34:45/04-01-17)
She doesn't. I'm not sure whether this can be done in time or not. If this is too rapid, she'll have the docs work at her another time.
Same goes with the auto-injector. Since this is a smaller operation, however, this shouldn't be that much of a problem. If we can schedule the operation soon enough.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Jack_Spade on (04:56:43/04-01-17)
Costs include the operation. Eyes and Injector can be done within two days, so no problems there.

And just to reiterate: You are free to spend your Karma without worrying about training times. The one week downtime is just so you can put in fluff explanations, like having a break through in your training or learning a specific trick from one of the others (Mike always likes to share his experience).

Regarding your targets:

Schmitt has a duty rooster with names, but not with addresses. This mainly concerns the guards that will stay at the bank and those who are on call in the nearby hotel.
For Matrix security there are three spiders who share each an eight hour on call shift. There is only one mage listed.

Guards:
Group 1
Joi   Avis
Page   Bark
Delmer   Connelly
Rudolph   Counce
Corey   Doney
Ernestina   Eastland
Dan   Flannagan
Abdul   Gaul

Group 2
Shanita   Gildersleeve
Benny   Guyette
Robt   Holmen
Sherley   Jaso
Krystina   Kulp
Moses   Leggio
Sharmaine   Mendonca
Kayleigh   Pangle

Group 3
Romeo   Pohl
Belia   Presutti
Glady   Schiavone
Antoine   Sieg
Rod   Snelling
Norberto   Spanos
Hugh   Stillson
Hal   Tamashiro

One Group is always inside the bank, one is on call and one is on leave. Once per week (usually Monday) they are all at the bank for briefings and to deal with large deposits.

Security Spiders:
Darrel Vandemark (0600h-1400h)
Laure Sutherlin (1400h-2200h)
Foster Stoneman (2200h-0600h)
Their job is mainly being on call and reacting to security problems.

Mage:
Marcellus Fulgham
Mike Pierce

Mages are rare, so those are the only ones listed. But Zola is of course himself an accomplished mage, so there usually is someone there to check the wards.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Volker on (10:28:24/04-01-17)

Mage:
Marcellus Fulgham
Mike Pierce

What am I missing..?

They can do both the eyes and the injector in two frigging days?? This is awesome! Do I have any aftereffects in the beginning? Headache? Miscalibration? Dizziness? I guess something like losing ones eyes will not go without hitches.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Jack_Spade on (11:08:02/04-01-17)
Sorry, that's an artifact from an earlier draft. There are two mages.

And yeah. Technically you'll have physical damage afterwards, but since you can actually heal that within a day it's not really relevant - especially since you have access to magical healing from a specialized health mage.
By fluff you'll be pretty sore.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]

:D that's good to hear. Two healing mages are better than one, even considering that both have ample reason to be pissed by her :D

Easter holidays are going to be real busy for me. Between Friday, 7th and Wendesday, 19th I will definitely not be able to post. From then, I'll post as soon as I can.
Regarding the sidethread, if someone has a nice idea, you can already start and bnc joins when I can. If not, I will put up something when I'm back.

Also: Do you think it's logical that "I'm up for it" and "I'm down" mean the same thing? Dudes, I adore your language, but it is bizarre sometimes :D

My research:
Spiders (1 to 4), Mages (1 to 2):
Matrix Search (http://orokos.com/roll/501978): 6#14d6t5 4 3 3 6 7 6

For the regular security personnel, I'll buy hits (3 hits each).

Oh, and the two bodyguards (first one is Kynos): Matrix Search (http://orokos.com/roll/501979): 2#14d6t5 8 4
With Toolbox, my Data Processing is 7. Of course, I use Browse.

Eh, if you consider how many idiosyncrasies German has ("Grüß Gott" is a friendly greeting and not a threat  ;) ) I'd say it's par for the course.

Thanks for the heads-up. From 17th to 23rd I'll be on vacation (visiting Scotland), so my internet access might become a bit unreliable.
Once I'm home I'll post the results of your search
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Jack_Spade on (16:10:33/04-04-17)
Alright, let's see: For the guards you find their home address (most are from Seattle), former employer (Ex-Miltary, Ex-Cop, Ex-Security Company) and time of service (between 3 months and 5 years) as well as their salary (pretty decent)

About the Security Spiders you can only find general information: They all work for Optical Dreams, only Darrel Vandemark is situated in Seattle (Lives and works downtown in a high class apartment complex). Sutherlin is in Hong Kong and Foster Stoneman sits in London.
More in-dept stuff needs a hack into the host of Optical Dreams (R6 A8S7D6W9)

Mages:
Marcellus Fulgham is a hermetic for hire working for Mystics and Magics, lives in Snohomish and commutes to work Everett. He is married has two kids (9 and 12 years old) going to a local corp school. His wife Lucile works as a secretary at the same place.

Mike Pierce is single, lives in one of the better parts of Bellevue (only about 10 minutes from your safe house away). He follows the Aztec tradition and is mentioned as a former blood sports champion, indicating that he might be a Mystic Adept.

You don't find anything about Ramirez (Threshold 6) but Kynos is relatively well known in the shadows: Ex-Military, classified as a sociopath, has a real SIN and a bodyguard license and supposedly some contacts at KE. He is cybered up to the eyeballs and works for anyone paying him enough. His current address is the same hotel as the other guards. His last job outside bodyguarding Zola was three months ago and supposedly involved a bug hunt.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]

Well my interpretation for  charismatic and socially skilled people that they are more balanced and confident than the rest of us.
I see Anna as skilled enough to keep it constructive no matter what is being said to her or how. She is unlikely to be dragged into a social conflict unless she wishes to and the social friction does not affect her as much.

Anyhow, it seems that in that case we'll all be taking a break for a while - so I would not start a side thread now.  Perhaps while we wait for Jack to get back from Scotland. (Have fun!)

Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Volker on (08:59:12/04-07-17)
@Jack How can Sutherlin and Stoneman work from such a distance? Satellite link + a lot of noise reduction stuff?

@gilga I guess charismatic persons can be sensitive or assholes, too. But bnc is fine with the fact that she can insult Anna all she wants and still get treated :D

@team This is my last post for at least a week. There is a lot to do, where bnc is of little help anyway: besides the stuff we already agreed on, I guess it would be good to investigate Darrel Vandemark, Mike Pierce, and Fulgham.
Happy Easter everybody, or in German: Frohe Ostern und blaue Eier! ;)

Post by: SquirrelDude on (19:15:36/04-12-17)
So while we party, I'd like to help coordinate our information gathering a bit. To start Let's make a lis of three categories

1. Things that we know

2. Things that we are assuming

3. Things we don't know.
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: SquirrelDude on (19:29:57/04-17-17)
Well, I'll start then

1. Things we know
 - We have a FOB and can create codes to override the safe's security timer feature
 - Names of the spiders and then wage mages that handle security for the location, as well as some of the employees and the shifts that they traditionally work
 - Zola is a mage
 - The guard's popular hangout spot
 - Bank Guard's are not fond of Zola's personal bodyguards.
 - Team's assumed identities. (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=24985.msg469048#msg469048)

2. Things we are assuming
 - That inside of the vault will be enough goods to be a serious payout for the team
 - Minimal security presence/interference from Zola
 - Present security features at the bank and inside the vault consist of:  A foundation with 1 m thick plastcrete walls, a time locked, half meter thick titanium steel save door with tungsten hardening, a military grade drone/agent controlling the buildings defenses, an eight-man guard squad on duty at all times with relieve no more than 5 minutes away, one remote decker/rigger as well as a six-pack of watchers ready to alert an Aztech trained mage to send his spirits after magic users.
 -  The bank is not real AAA territory, therefore its in theory under Salish-Shidhe jurisdiction. This means Zola can't just call KE for help or bring in other specialists at short notice. All permanent off-duty personal is therefore housed in a hotel vis-a-vis the bank. And since they can't carry their heavy artillery with them, they have to equip in the bank's armory before they can do anything. [link] (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=24985.msg467412#msg467412)
 - The assumed identities have not been cracked yet.

3. Things we don't know
- Where the spiders live and work out of
- Where the wagemages live and work out of
- Where Zola's bodyguards reside
- Bank Alarm system details
- What automated security feature are active within the vault
- What sensors are active inside the bank and at what times they are active
- What automated security features are active in the bank's main area, and at what times they are active
- Layout of the bank, including floorplans, access points, and furniture obstructing camera views.
- Weaponry available to guards outside of the armory
- Weaponry and armor/defensive measures available to guards inside the armory
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Qwikfix on (09:27:24/04-18-17)
Yay for mentail blocks.

Thanks for that list omae.  I think I can add a couple points.

Things we know:
There is contention even among Zola's guards, some even against Zola.

Things we are assuming/intend to confirm:
Many of Zola's employees have checkered pasts that may work for leverage

About all I can think of at the moment
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Volker on (00:25:59/04-20-17)
I just add my stuff in italic letters:

1. Things we know
 - We have a FOB and can create codes to override the safe's security timer feature
 - Names of the spiders and then wage mages that handle security for the location, as well as some of the employees and the shifts that they traditionally work
 - Zola is a mage and initiative of the 4th order, probably blood mage
 - The guard's popular hangout spot
 - Bank Guards are not fond of Zola's personal bodyguards.
 - Team's assumed identities. (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=24985.msg469048#msg469048)
 - The Harmond&Sells Private Bankiing Institute is really under control of Aztechnology.
 - Zola often stays in his office till late or even till morning.
 - He has two bodyguards: Ramirez Escobar, an Ex-Jaguar/Physical Adept, and Kynos, a cyber-up mercenary. Apparently, there is some kind of tension between Kynos and Zola.
 - Kynos is an ex-military sociopath, has a real SIN and supposedly contacts to KE
 - Zola's private residence (also on the island)
 - a high class fitness club/spa Zola likes to frequent
 - We have floor plans for the hotel, although they might be outdated.
 - We have a list of names of the whole security staff.

Matrix and magical security
- We have the adresses of the mages and spiders.
 - Some parts of the bank are hardwired, the rest is inside an R8 host. The plans don't indicate a Faraday cage
 - The spider logs into the host and works from at home.
 - They all work for Optical Dreams.
 - Darrel Vandemark (6.00 - 14.00 shift) lives in Seattle. We have the adress, downtown.).
 - Sutherlin (14.00 - 22.00 shift) lives in Hong Kong, Stoneman (the rest) in London.
 - One of the security mages is an ex-student of Zola (I assume this would be Mike Pierce).
 - Pierce lives in Bellevue, 10 mins from our safe house. He follows the Aztec tradition and is mentioned as a former blood sports champion, indicating that he might be a Mystic Adept.
 - the other mage, Fulgham, is hired from Mystics and Magics and lives in Snohomish. He has family.

[link] (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=24985.msg467412#msg467412)
 - The assumed identities have not been cracked yet.
 - Mr. Johnson's lost research is stored in the vault we're about to crack.

3. Things we don't know
- Where the spiders live and work out of
- Where the wagemages live and work out of
- Where Zola's bodyguards reside
- Bank Alarm system details
- What automated security feature are active within the vault
- What sensors are active inside the bank and at what times they are active

Intel is bnc's job. She does it thouroughly ;)

We already know the physical location of them. But yeah, the next step would be to explore it with our own eyes, find their weaknesses, schedules, and so on. We must gather all information we can about them, then proceed.

Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]
Post by: Jack_Spade on (03:25:12/05-10-17)
That depends entirely on you and if you are able to get away without getting recognized.

Personally, I haven't planned any follow up runs. I have the feeling that there is a certain fatigue with the players vs. such a long and complicated run.
If I should keep on GMing, it will probably only be rather short and straight forward stories where it's easier to keep attention.

Or you know, one of you could try their hand on GMing for this group.  ;)

How do you want to do this sparring? Full combat (initiatives, attack, defense, damage, soak) or something a bit quicker?
Title: Re: Panzerknacker [OOC]

I was thinking we could keep it simple and narrative until our GM tells us otherwise just using our base stats as a guide.  From what I've seen, we're pretty matched on agility (alarmingly good), slobber tooth leads in initiative by a bit, which krestov then makes up with with superior unarmed skill and counterstriking.  Sounds legit?

Krestov also does far more damage and can soak more, but doesn't have the defense dice Slobber has (Slob's 17 vs Special K's 11, both before dodge/full defense).

I'll let you narrate it.

Personally, I haven't planned any follow up runs. I have the feeling that there is a certain fatigue with the players vs. such a long and complicated run.
If I should keep on GMing, it will probably only be rather short and straight forward stories where it's easier to keep attention.

Or you know, one of you could try their hand on GMing for this group.  ;)

Either way, I'm not willing to give up on bnc. So if the others are in, I would want to carry on.
I'm still full of enthusiasm about that run. Though I have to admit that I lose track sometimes, I'm still totally with you. My intel file is now 8 pages long, and up-to-date. Still, a more straight-forward follow-up to regain breath might be worth considering.

About GMing: After I messed up with Kathmandu, I'm not sure how to feel about following in your footsteps. Your shoes are definitely larger than mine. If you want to play, however, and no one else feels inclined to GM, I might give it a second try. IC, bnc would come along as a NPC, however, as she's still part of the group (and I don't want to write a single post without my darling ;) ).

Don't sell yourself short, it was an ambitioned project with an unusual setting. Quite a lot sessions just go under because RL is a bitch.
Afterwards I noticed that I wasn't really happy with Cinder as a character and not really confident enough to fully play the exotic setting.
Chalk it up as a learning experience and move on  ;D

RL sure did its part to kill Kathmandu, but I also caught myself being badly prepared a couple of times. But if you'd like to play a character and no one else opts for GM, I can definitely try and give it a second chance.

Yey,
I thought I lost this game completely.

All the more reason for you to get on with beating up the bank security personal :D

Whew,I was horrified! It would have felt terrible to get bnc killed by a hacker! A**ehole :-/
I'll be back IC today at at least by tomorrow! Great it's back!

[EDIT: nothing to do but wait, but I'm watching you]

I hope not. Otherwise I'd ask SquirrelDude to step in and do the little show combat with the bank guard. Would look fairer anyway :D

The sites admins these days

We definitely lost some posts. Looks to be about 3 or 4 days worth.

To the wayback machine! Nevermind. (https://web.archive.org/web/2/http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=24985.700)

Alright, here is the summary as best I can provide

Krestov is still fighting. While he was one of the guards chatted up Slobbertooth. Kynos's contract is up soon, but they don't know when. He's a sociopath who broke someone's legs for making jokes. Ramirez is loyal to the bone (blood pact?). Team is about to go downstairs to the gunrange to practice before work. Slobber asked if they could follow down and observe and if any of the "grunts" can give Ramirez or Khynos a challenge when it comes to marksmanship.

Hey guys,

yeah, the outages have taken a good chunk of progress away.
For that matter I want to ask you if you'd follow me over to dumpshock. Quite a few of my other games have migrated there already.
I'll try to get a post up that fixes the lost once, but it's been so long that I can't really remember with much accuracy, so feel free to correct me.

I'd follow along to dumpshock. I'm not letting an outage kill a game that' sbeen going on for actual years now

Sorry for the confusion:
I confused the FN HAR with the FN FAL assault rifle.

I'm changing the IC accordingly

I'm in. bnc moved to Seattle to survive, she can move to Dumpshock as well.

Great.
When I get home I'll open up an OCC and IP on Dumpshock.
If you haven't an account yet there: Be aware that your confirmation email contains an important message: You have to manually write to the Admin so he enables your account.
Almost everyone (myself included) misses that part the first time :D

No problem.

Should have an account up tomorrow evening at latest, if I don't forget.

Should we create a new OOC thread so that everyone can post updated character sheets at a more reliably site and as a place to store links to previous chapters/important lists of things?

Do not yet have permission to reply to OOC thread (which I'll do first to get relevant info in).

Ugh. I did so, let's see.
Please don't let me keep you. Bianca still is in the hospital. When she's wake, she follows the spider for at least 72 hours to find out more about his life and schedule.
I might not be able to post before 6th of August. So just keep running. The more you can do, the earlier bnc can really join. I'm itching. Post, lads, post for meeeeee!

Hi guys, long time no see

Really glad you still play this group

You are all awesome!

Sorry for not returning, real life got in the way, in a really bad way.

Best play by post group I ever played with, hope we'll play together again sometime.

Hiho

great to hear from you. It's not to late to get back in (but we headed over to dumpshock since this forum is getting less and less reliable)

If you are interested, I can have Torrent resurface - Dr. Schmidt would certainly take you on board in a heart beat :D

I'd really love to resume playing Torrent, the only problem is I don't know if I'll be able to post on  a regular basis.
I hope this year will be less crazy, I had to work 11-14 hours daily (not kidding) for the past year due to new workplace.
I only had the weekends for some quality time, when I was not simply too exhausted to get out of bed. Don't  plan on repeating last year's habits- even if it means I have to resign from my job- but It will be some time before I'm certain I can follow the pbp rythm on a regular basis.

TL;DR version:  I'd like to try and enter on of your next missions if there's one around September. Hoping I won't let you down. Oh and I'll have to find the time to check SR rules, haven't played since the last time I posted.

Since Qwikfix is MIA it would be really, really cool to get Torrent into play again.
