[spoiler]OOC: first![/spoiler]

I arrive about half an hour ahead of schedule and take a seat with Gunderson (unless he's otherwise occupied).  So what's up?  Why the secrecy?
Title: Re: IC [Prelude] Angels

Elena sits at her table at the Last Round, wondering if she misunderstood something.  She checks her messages and no, she is in the right place with a couple minutes to go until the right time.  She stubs out her thin cigar, which is probably the only thing that still ties her to her old life.  She just cannot give up the thin, foul smelling Russian cigars.  She had broken the vodka habit some time ago, but not this.  Taking another from the hard pack, she lights it from the candle on the table and sits back to see if.........................aha...............yes.  There is Gunderson and he has someone with him at that table.  Chiding herself for not going to see him earlier, she picks up her tall glass and walks over to where Gunderson is sitting.  She waits a few feet away, just in case she has guessed incorrectly, waiting for the guy to acknowledge her.

She takes the time to study the other woman at the table.  A rather plain looking girl of somewhat indeterminate age, but Elena knows full well how deceiving the physical appearance can be.  The girl is dressed in a long great coat of rather good quality, perhaps a Mortimer.  That alone speaks well fer her.

The cowl turns slightly towards Elena.  Can we help ya with something?   This is a kind of a private conversation.
Title: Re: IC [Prelude] Angels
Post by: Mercy Merchant on <01-09-17/2215:25>
Elena takes the cigar out of her mouth in the European fashion and nods.  Her Slavic, perhaps Russian, accent comes out when she speaks.  "I am sorry for the intrusion.  I had an appointment with Mister Gunderson for now.  I will go back to my table and return later.  Again, I am sorry."  She nods at the girl and turns away from the table.  Obviously, Gunderson's had an earlier appointment that is running late.  She expects that he will call her when he is ready to see her.

Gunderson pipes up before Elena leaves, Actually you two will be working together on this, along with a third party who has yet to join us.  Sam this is Elena, Elena meet Sam
Title: Re: IC [Prelude] Angels
Post by: Mercy Merchant on <01-10-17/0950:50>
Elena turns back to the table and looks at the other girl again before taking a seat, putting her drink glass and hard pack of cigars on the table in front of her.  "Hello Sam.  Is good to meet you."  Elena blows a puff of acrid smoke away from the table and turns to Gunderson.  "Is important, yes?  I do not usually work with others.  Why this time?"

Killdare arrives at the Last Round a little early. The place seems louder than usual, but maybe that's because he's fully sober at the moment.
He can't remember the last time he wasn't on something, but Gunderson seemed to make of point of it. S'ok, he could take something after the meeting to take the edge off.
Killdare scans the room and sees the usual suspects. Gunderson looks busy, so Killdare heads to the bar, but Gunderson waves him over.

And there's the third member of your group. Gunderson says as he gives a quick gesture to an Ork near the bar.

Killdare moves to the table, grabs a chair and spins it around. He gives the two women a once over. They make an unlikely pair. A prostitute and a runaway kid? Who knows?
He considers asking, but then thinks better of it. Gunderson seems touchy and he likes Gunderson's money.

Christ Gunderson, did you have the music turned up in here? It's like the inside of a Combat Arena.

Elena is used to men staring at her and coming to conclusions about what she does, so this guy doesn't bother her, even though she can see the wheels turning in his head.  He looks like a junkie, but looks can be deceiving and so she holds her comments and takes a long drag on her cigar, letting the smoke flow out away from the table.

She looks back at Gunderson and waits for him to tell them what this is all about.

I scrunch as far to the edge of the booth as I can and put my back to the wall and draw up my legs and wrap my arms around them.  Jesus Gunderson am I on your shit detail?  My team is a hungover ork and this Natasha?  Are we hunting Moose and Squirrel too?
Title: Re: IC [Prelude] Angels
Post by: Mercy Merchant on <01-10-17/2134:42>
Elena looks at the girl and blinks.  Twice.  Perhaps her initial read of the woman is indeed correct, after all.  What a disappointment.  Still, it could be an act and Elena resolves to wait to judge.  "Is meant to be funny?  I am sure is literary reference I am not knowing.  And name is Elena, not Natasha."

This isn't your team this is the team, play nice.  Sam takes a while to warm up to people.  I expect  you all to be professional.  He appears to be speaking directly to Sam even though he said all of you.

The job is payback for an attempted heist from one of our distributors.  We have come across some intel that indicates a large shipment of merchandise will be changing hands between the Blood Brothers and one of their biggest distributors.  We want the Blood Brothers fucked on this deal.  We want that merchandise before it gets to their guy.  These shits are based in Auburn and they are taking it to Tacoma and this is supposed to happen tomorrow night 2300 hours.  That gives you a little over 24 hours to get this set up.

You got any questions?
Title: Re: IC [Prelude] Angels
Post by: Mercy Merchant on <01-11-17/0146:58>
Elena reaches out to move an ashtray closer then taps the end of her cigar on it.  Putting the Russian import back in her mouth, she takes another draw before asking, "These men.  How many are they and are they to die, Mister Gunderson?  Also, what is merchandise and where do we take it?"

I guess looks can be deceiving, sorry for the lame joke.  If gunderson vouches for you then you're obviously talented.

Also, how much are we being paid here Gunderson?

To be fair, I was hungover yesterday. Today I am just undermedicated.  Killdare chuckles.
You can call me Killdare. Nice ta meet ya both.

Killdare is intrigued by the two women. Woman and girl? Neither of their skill sets is readily apparent, but he likes how the little one gets right down to business.

Good question Sam. This sounds kinda dangerous.

Probably pharmacueticals mostly could be some beetles too.  Of course it's dangerous, you think this is the kiddie park?  if it wasn't dangerous we wouldn't need you to do it.  The payout on this is 15% street value of what you find.  If you don't get the drugs at least get the money and remember, we are ripping off the sellers not the buyer.

Killdare has been keeping quiet, taking in all the information.
With the job known, he tries to determine what role these two women, woman and girl? will be playing.
The small one could be an intelligence specialist. Perhaps a hacker? But he didn't see a deck and they don't go anywhere without a deck. It could be hiding under that long coat.
The Russian could be an infiltration specialist. That body could probably get her into a lot of places. But the talk of killing. That's the talk of an assassin. She isn't sporting obvious cyberware but the synthetics are pretty good these days. He was just reading about the new models with sweat glands built in.
Killdare takes a second, third? glance at the Russian looking for in-obvious cyberware.

[spoiler]Specifically looking for cyberware.. -8 for synthetic arms +3 for looking

Elena leans forward to give a bit of emphasis to her statement.  "Yes, Gunderson, there should be at least some sort of remuneration independent of the value of the goods.  We do have to eat and we don't want to end owing you for this work."

Okay I can see your concern but there is supposed be 60-80k worth of merchandise so I don't think you are going to be disappointed, but I'll make sure you each get paid a minimum of 1500 regardless of what you are able to bring back...So long as the rest is destroyed or out of the hands of the Blood Brothers.

"That is not much help, Gunderson, especially for the money offered.  Is hard to plan our actions without knowing how many men are involved and what sort of security they have."

I wave away the offered pack.  No thanks.

I can take care of astral and matrix recon but id like to be closer for the matrix stuff and someone else should do a walk by for physical security  I'd prefer to do this without killing a bunch of folks if possible.  Everyone on the same page here?
Title: Re: IC [Prelude] Angels
Post by: Mercy Merchant on <01-20-17/2022:50>
Elena nods.  "I try to kill only those I am paid to kill.  Sometimes others die but not often.  I can do a physical walk-by as someone different, if that will help.  Can even take place of man in crew if get enough information."
Title: Re: IC [Prelude] Angels
Post by: Overbyte on <01-21-17/0128:40>
Sam may not look like much, but she's rapidly growing on Killdare. Good to know his gut was right about her. Magic too huh? No wonder Gunderson hires her, that's a lot of talent in a small package.

My exacting thinking Sam. The less killing the better IMO. I'm a medic by training, but I know which end of the gun points at the other guy.

He didn't take Elena for an assassin, but it makes sense. Pretty easy to get near a target when you look like that. Despite appearances Killdare wouldn't be at all surprised if she's got some serious cyber hiding in there somewhere.

Maybe we can do a little recon. Elena can do the close pass, me and Sam can hang back and cover her from an overwatch position.
Oh wait.. I think I sold my Remington to make rent the month before last. Killdare looks a bit annoyed.

Guess I should replace that. Maybe get a Marlin. Always liked them

[spoiler]Stuttr is it possible for me to just buy a Marlin X71 (availability 6R) or Ruger 100 (availability 4R) off the shelf with my Fake ID/License (Rating 2)? Or is that really risky?[/spoiler]

Title: Re: IC [Prelude] Angels
Post by: Ennui on <01-21-17/2157:38>
Well the Four Winds Bar should be a matter of public record I think.  I would imagine we can just look that up on our com.  Lemme see.

In case it's not an insignificant test matrix search (http://orokos.com/roll/477729): 8d6t5 2

We can take my car but I'd prefer if you guys weren't actually in the car when I do the recon...no offense intended I'm just a little neurotic about people being around me when I'm unconscious.  I'd suggest Killdare do the walk-by, they will pay less attention to some homeless guy, even if he is walking around behind the building and stuff, than the sexy russian I think, but maybe Natasha could go in and get a drink and check out the interior.
Title: Re: IC [Prelude] Angels
Post by: Mercy Merchant on <01-21-17/2315:48>
Elena nods then leans back into the shadows provided by a nearby supporting pillar.  A minute later, she leans back in to the others, wearing the face of a tired older man.  Sagging skin, missing and yellowed teeth, and the scars of poorly healed childhood diseases mark him as one of the homeless residents of the Barrens.  The right eye is now brown and the left is the milky white of a man partially blind.  Grease streaked and poorly kept hair round out the transformation.

Elena looks around and shaking hands fumble with the pack of cigars.  Completely unable to work the old-fashioned lighter, the man looks at Kildare and, in an old and wheezy voice, says, "How about a little help here, mister?"

Post by: Mercy Merchant on <01-22-17/0618:43>
Elena leans back into the shadows again, emerging as her former self.  "Yes, I agree that internal and external information is good.  Just wanted you to see what I bring to the table.  So is me on inside, Kildare on outside, and Sam on matrix and astral?"

@Sam The address is easily found.  It's at the corner of 15th and E st.  In addition you find a few rumors of some sort of cult that uses the bar as a front, but this appears to be nothing more than conjecture so the veracity of this information is suspect.

Killdare had heard of cyberware that allowed you to completely change your face, but he'd never seen it.
He tries to play it cool but he's a little take aback.

Nah. I'm.. yah... good... yah..  Just gotta grab my pack. I left it with the coat check girl.
I thought we might be working immediately so I packed everything I thought I'd need.

Killdare grabs his bag and hikes it over his shoulder, takes his Winchester from the gun check, racks it and checks the chamber to make sure it is loaded.
He holds the door to the street open for Sam And Elena.

After you.

Okay then.  I lead everyone out to a Ford Americar, it's been dinged and used but it may be the best taken care of car in the barrens.  I drive carefully and obey all the traffic laws.  I park about 2 blocks away and get read for my recon,

I'll do the astral recon first then the matrix.  I doubt this place will have much magic security,  I will keep tabs on my earbuds once I'm done with the astral scan.

Killdare leaves the Winchester in the car.
Keep it warm for me wud ya? Be careful, there's a round in the chamber.
He pulls the short barrel shotgun from his bag and tucks it under his long coat, then fishes out two flash-bang grenades and stuffs one in each pocket. He makes sure he has the extra mags and then throws the bag on the back seat.
Guess I'll leave the bag here too. Don't go driving off.

Elena asks that Sam drive slowly through the area without going near the bar.  "I am scanning for the type of clothes worn around here to be able to fit in.  I am paying special attention to the prostitutes we pass, and am glad I did.  See, what I wear is just a bit too good.  Please stop at the 'Shack in the next street so I can buy different clothes."

She walks into the local Stuffer Shack and picks up some off-the-rack clothes that are more appropriate for this area of the sprawl,  looking for and finding somehting that a working girl might wear.  Back in the car, she strips and puts the new clothes on, not really pausing to consider that Killdare might be embarrassed to see her naked.  Once ready, she changes her face, hair, and bust a bit to be a little more memorable.  Finished, She leaves the car with Killdare, leaning over to give him a peck on the cheek.  "For luck."

The bar is much like any other of its type out here on the edge of proper civilization and Elena pauses at the entrance to let her eyes adjust to the light before moving to the bar and taking a stool.  Her look and her walk are designed to draw attention to herself.

@Sam  You check out the astral around the place and everything seems normal, but once you poke your head inside that changes.  The astral inside is different.  You are used to a normal background count a lingering sense of decay.  Here is is clean, pure, refreshing even.  Inside there is a spirit sitting at the bar, it appears as a man but silvery and shining.  It glances at you with bright eye and smiles then turns back to whatever it is doing.

@Elena As you approach something about the building seems off, different.  It's hard to put your finger on it until you pass the alley heading towards the entrance.  The alley is uneven.  The walls of the bar are aligned differently than the rest of the buildings in the area, it's not obvious but it's certainly a few degrees off.  The flow of the building also seems to pull you in and the door is perpendicular to the street, or would be had the building not been set askew, as opposed to the other buildings with doors facing the street.  Altogether an interesting effect.  There does not appear to be any physical security other than a bouncer at the door.  By all appearances this operates as a normal bar at least.  The bar is busy as they usually are this time of the night and a number of heads pop up in response to your entry...as you expected.

@Killdare is oblivious thinking more about the throbbing in his brain than the job at hand.  He makes his pass by the front nothing standing out and he creeps down the alleyway as the homeless often do.  As he passes by the rear of the building he gets a sudden sense of deja vu.  Did you just come from here?  This appears to be the front of the building again, but you are sure you just went down the alley way behind it.  You blink a few times then retrace your steps.  You follow the alley back out and come out...to the front again?!?  What is going on.

Elena nods at the bouncer as she enters the building and walks up to the bar and takes a vacant stool while waiting for the bartender to come down and ask her what she wants.

@Elena  As you take your seat you take in the interior of the place.  There are doors at opposite ends of the bar.  The main floor is separated by a partition and two large openings on either side of a massive grandfather clock.  The walls are adorned with pictures of seafarers from the 1600-1800s and the ceilings are painted with the constellation you would normally see outside if it weren't perpetually smoggy and raining.

The bartender approaches you and says What'll you have?

@Sam  You assense the spirit and get a headache from its brightness when you try again it's better but you still can't tell much about it other than it's powerful.  [spoiler]OOC: you can tell it's Force is at least twice your magic rating.[/spoiler]  As you poke around the place you detect no other traces of magic or even awakened until you reach a door in the back.  You try to pass through it but cannot.  As you begin investigating it you notice the spirit is watching you.  You can't tell if it is hostility or curiosity, but regardless it isn't moving.

@Killdare  After your third pass you finally notice that while the building and its immediate neighbors appear the same the store fronts and apartments across the street appear differently.  Both sides of the bar mirror each other almost perfectly.  You also finally notice that all the windows are barred with cast iron gratings and the only physical security you can see are a couple of cameras at the entrances.  [spoiler]OOC: I rerolled your perception after you started looking again.[/spoiler]

Elena looks around the bar, counting heads as she waits for the bartender to get to her.  "Thank you.  Do you have a fruit-ade by any chance?  Not been in here before.  Is busier later?"  She pulls out her pack of cigars.  "Is alright to smoke?"

Sam.. forget that last message.  This place has two front doors?  Who does that?
Not much else going on here.

I try to get an idea of how big the ward is.  Afterwards I approach the spirit.  Pardon me.  Are you a guardian here?  Are you bound to this place?

@Elena Fruit-ade?   Never heard of it.  We have flavored mixes and alcohol, but if you want actual fruit juice you are in the wrong part of town for that.  It's pretty busy now, you may not notice but the main room is almost full.  People don't usually sit at the bar, the regulars don't anyway.  Smoking is fine.

You do see that the main room has a number of people in it none of them are paying you much attention anymore though.

@Sam  This place is special to me but I am not a guard no, though if you try to hurt this place I will stop you.  Are you looking for something or someone?

Elena laughs.  "I am new to area and did not know.  Vodka, please and I will go sit at that table before all the places to sit are gone.  Thank you very much."

Sort of.  We'll try not to cause any trouble.

I return to my body and report before I hit the matrix.  There is a crazy powerful spirit in there, doesn't appear to be bound but he says not to fuck with his place.  I'd listen to him.

I pull up my deck and make sure my agents are online to help with matrix searches, marks and what not.  Let's see what we have here.

Quick Logic buff:  Increase Logic force 5 drain (http://orokos.com/roll/486053): 9d6t5 3 10d6t5 1

Wow the agents are on the ball:matrix perception  teamwork (http://orokos.com/roll/486052): 6d6t5 2 6d6t5 3 6d6t5 4

MP: matrix Perception base 7 +2vr +2 spider +2 teamwork (http://orokos.com/roll/486054): 13d6t5 5 it's actually only 4 successes I forgot to calc the -2 from the sustained spell.

>>Team [Elena]:  Crazy powerful spirits are a bit out of my league.  I will try to be careful inside.  What should I not do?<<

Elena sips at her drink and looks about the room, trying to get the feel of the place.

Killdare wanders the street on one side.. then decides if people think he's homeless he might as well make use of that.
He finds an alcove across the street where he has a good view of the door and slumps down to watch for anything out of the ordinary or any sign of the Blood Brothers crew coming or going.

@Killdare and Elena: everything else about the bar other than its obvious eccentricities seems fairly normal and unassuming.

@Sam:  In VR this place is a host which seems unusual for a bar, at least in your experience.  It is a business though and it offers you a mark to come inside.  On the inside the motif is all astronomical charts and navigation references.  With your matrix perception you can see that most of the patrons all have normal operating comlinks though there are three that are hidden, (one of which is Elena's (I'm assuming she is running silent if not there's only two) but there is a secondary portion of the host that is not public.  It is represented by a set of double doors nearly identical with one rood reading 'EMPLOYEES ONLY' and the other reading 'YLNO SEEYOLPME'.

[spoiler]Stuttr's dad is in the hospital and he can't seem to get on this site with his phone, so we just  did the matrix stuff and he's having me post the run down.[/spoiler]

I entered the host and checked out the Pans running silent, one was Elena's the other two were some schmuck name Flicker (I think this guy was mentioned in the game somewhere but it wasn't in my backstory).  There was a file on his comlink that Gunderson might be interested in.  It's a list of drug deliveries in our area, so I snatched that.  The second was the bartender Dusty.  He is the contact for the gang  He has a picture of the guy and a code phrase.  They are set up to meet at midnight and the code is the guy is to come in and ask if they allow dogs and he will respond with only if they are fix and consequent and then the guy introduces himself as Desdenova and they hand over the drugs.  So basically if we snatch this guy before  he shows up we can have Elena take his place.  I have the picture. and I send it to everyone.

Well.. as much as the idea sounds good. I got some concerns.
I mean we can snatch up this drekhead no problemo and Elena can probably pretend to be him,
but I don't like the idea of sending her into the lion's den without back up.
If Elena gets made she's going to be in big trouble by herself in there.
Maybe it's better to take him after the exchange? Outside where we can control the terrain.

It doesn't seem all that much of a Lions Den, only two people are running silent in there,  I would expect a lot more if this was a normal gang hideout.  What do you think Elena is security a problem?

Elena casually looks about.  >>Team [Elena]:  Not from where I am sitting.  Your call, Killdare.  I sort of like taking him after he leaves, but that is my personal opinion.<<

Killdare thinks a bit. If it was him walking in there he'd have no problem with it.
But it's one thing risking your own life doing crazy drek, it's quite another putting someone else in the line of fire.

Team [Killdare]: Well Elena, you are the one that would be going in. I'd feel better if you had some back up on site.
I suppose I could go inside, but I'd hate to start blasting away in a place that crowded if anything goes wrong.
So after? This area seems pretty quiet and we know which way he'd be heading. What do you think Sam?

The only real difference I see is the possibility of damaging the merchandise and that's our pay day.

Team [Killdare]: Well we definitely don't want that! Do we have any idea how big this merchandise is? Is it going to be a truck-load? 'Cause I don't own a truck. heh

@team:  The only problem I see is that once he's on the move with the cargo I don't know if I have an effective way to stop him if he's driving.  Any ideas?

Team [Killdare]: I thought you hacker types could just shut things off? Hah. Barring that, we could disable his truck in the more mundane way. Shoot out a tire, or remove some critical piece while its parked. But, we don't even know if he needs a truck to transport the goods. Depends on how valuable the cargo is. Could be pretty small if its more expensive drugs. I mean a thousand doses of Kamikaze could easily fit in a backpack. So maybe we overthinkin' this.
