I've heard the show Leverage was inspired by Shadowrun.  It certainly has a very similar vibe with characters that are clearly the hacker, the street samurai, and the face.  And it's a freakin' great show.  I really like it.

No SF elements, but never forget John Frankenheimer's Ronin (1998).

Ronin is a great inspiration if you want to play a street sam (and also a good example how to get wildly different characters to work together)

Dread with Karl Urban is my go to movie to explain cyberpunk and is also a great inspiration for gang related runs.

Also a +1 for Leverage. Age of the geek, baby.

Yeah, but they threw one guy out of the group, and then got betrayed by another team member (plus the Johnson).

So I guess the theme is that getting different characters to work together has a price...


And yeah, Urban's Dredd rocked hard.

Well, yeah. That's another great lesson from the film: Never trust the geeky German if you are in a French movie 

If we count Leon, I'd add Nikita with the whole "forced into the shadows" angle.

And since I now think of Luc Besson: The fifth element does have a lot of... elements that I regularly find in pink mohawk runs (also a great depiction of low lifestyle in the sprawl compared to the luxuries of the mega-rich)

It's amazingly hard to find good science fiction that can be taken seriously.

Gattaca is a great film in regard of how to infiltrate a corporate environment.

And now that I have mentioned Andrew Niccol: Lord of War captures brilliantly why nations and corporations tolerate the existence of gun- and shadowrunners.
