With the thread about miniatures it got me to thinking what are some cool locations that a person could build sets of?

Some of the old standby's...
Nightclub, convenience store, warehouse, coffin motel, body shop, casino, corporate office, dock, hotel, police station, restaurant, hospital, and casino.

Anybody have any other ideas?

If you're building stuff, you gotta make the R&D lab, that way you could put a few machines or tubes that are filled with Mysterious Goo in them...

And for goo, you need SCIENCE!

Another one that's prolly easy to do is a open highway, either flanked by a few buildings for a standin in any city, or with scrubland for wilderness harassment.  Maybe even make the buildings removable so you can use one terrain for both situations.  It'd certainly make your rigger happy...

Years ago back when Fasa had SR they would bring this awesome diorama to their conventions, it was a length of elevated highway with multi-story buildings lining one side. Road is actually pretty easy to do (Caine is going to hate me for this but...) since I picked up this...

These guys make a great product and I have been very happy with the other ones that I have ordered from them.

Still, a length of elevated highway would be pretty sweet!
Thanks.  ;D

You're welcome, this thread is kinda scratching at my muse to come up with ideas, so those two prolly aren't the only ideas I can come up with, hehe.

One that might be interesting is a few sections of storm drain/sewer, two straight, L, T, and an X. For the water I would use Envirotex Lite, two part clear resin but without the very nasty fumes of most resins. Have to pour in very thin layers though to get the bubbles out...normally 1/4 to 1/8 of an inch.

Been getting free foamboard from this one business's marketing department, it just has print/art on one side...nothing that can't be painted over. This might be a source that other people might want to look into locally. There are really two drawbacks to foamboard...durability and cutting. I found a place online that has some specialized foamboard cutting tools that I am going to order and see how they work. Here is the link (sorry Caine)...

http://www.foamboardsource.com/creative-tools---accessories--design---cutting-tools--foamboard-cutters.html

There are a couple of standouts there, the V-Groove Cutter which it sounds like allows you to cut out a 45 degree groove allowing you to fold creating a 90 degree corner! The other one is the T Clips which you can stick into the ends to hold stuff walls together while the glue dries.

No, I'm not going to kill you John, Bull will; the more time I'm working on new scenery from all the damn links you post is less time I'm working on writing :D

You need more industrial parks and junk yards in your scenery though.   Something gritty with a few drones in it that can cause problems

Also the outdoor settings!  Abandoned neighborhood, alleys, toxic dump, city park (with bench and fountain, naturally)...

You could also pretty much take your pick of all the maps from the old Sprawl Sites book, if you've got one around.  Opportunity!

I love 3D terrain...it's just I can't build it to save my minis' lives.

My personal favorite is Fat Dragon Games. They sell PDFs of the stuff that you print on 100 weight card-stock and build with glue/tape. And, the cardstock is strong enough to support metal minis.

In addition to Fat Dragon Games...on RPGNow.com you can find products from World Works Games. Some people might be a little snobbish about card stock terrain but I have to say that I am really impressed with the quality and range of product out there. Even if you would prefer to build 3D terrain for your gaming board I would recommend checking out the card stock terrain if for nothing else the inspiration that it may impart!

Case in point I was looking at the Mayhem Marina and it got me to thinking about how hard would it be to shape styrofoam into a boat shape (cigarette boat) and then use some auto body putty over the top of that to form a reasonably hard shell? Not sure if there is anything in auto body putty to melt EPS (expanded polystyrene: standard white bead board foam) but it might be worth checking out. It would be cool to have a yatch and a three or four cigarette boats.

Caine, good to know! ;-)
I agree that a person should have terrain for the Sunken Fields and industrial parks. Speaking of which...

http://www.thewarstore.com/IMEXPlatformerHexagon.html  These sets are great for just adding some extra flair to your terrain, I have used all of these and can vouch for their quality!  ;D
