Right, seems we're ready, unless someone else wants to share their feelings with us."

Anna texted >> *this* breeder has a big date...  let's go.
and got into the car. Wondering what that Zola guy was like.

Just one hour before the planned date, everyone was ready.
Mike had returned with the limo and a small vial holding the alchemical spell. Anna would only have to open the tiny bottle and touch the liquid inside. Krestov he handed a slap patch with Laes, just in case the escort lady needed to forget the meeting.
Anna and Flatline both had been transformed through make-up and hair dye into somewhat realistic copies of Zola and Eve.
Slobber was ready to ride out on his bike while Krestov had donned the appearance of a chauffeur.
Kite and bnc both where ready to go into VR for overwatch duty.

Time to come face to face with Zola for the first time.

The restaurant was one of the countless high class affairs in downtown Seattle. French cuisine with prices that made even purchasing a glass of water an expense that a typical sarari man would have to run by his financial adviser. And yet there were a lot of people waiting at the bar to be shown a table.
Flatline got out of the car and went into the restaurant, scanning for Eve. The girl wore a fashionable costume and large sun glasses as well as dyed red hair, so it took the combined efforts of bnc and to recognize her.
I took the doctor a moment to sweet talk her into leaving the restaurant, but could convince her that the restaurant was a bit to packed for his taste.

They left the restaurant not a moment to soon: Just as the doors of the limo had closed, Slobber saw three man come up from the parking garage.
The one in the middle was quite obviously Zola: Tall, tan and black haired with expensive glasses and an even more expensive suit.
Behind him and to his left and right his bodyguards followed: A surprisingly small guy of south american descent, wearing an obviously armored suit. His features were hard and a scar curved upwards from the left corner of his mouth. His head was shaved and at the side of his neck a tatooed claw was visible that likely belonged to some kind of great cat. His lips were small and tightly pressed together which made him looking annoyed.
The other one was a tall elf with a military buzz cut. He wore tinted glasses as well as earbuds and bore a bored expression. When he moved his arms for a short moment bandages at his forearms became visible.
The trio entered the restaurant and moved past the waiting line of guests directly to the hostess and were directly shown their table.

Meanwhile in the car, Flatline seemed to have already expended what charm he had and the conversation between him and the beautiful girl had come to a halt, despite her best efforts to keep it going.
Through the rearview mirror Krestov saw Flatline look pleadingly towards him. <<Krestov, I really don't know what to say to this girl or where to take her. Do you have an idea?>>

Spotting Zola, Anna nods at Slobber and then touches the alchemical vial, leaving the now mundane preparation with Slobber.
She heads to meet Zola and his bodyguards next to the restaurant. She curtsy and introduces herself as "Eve".
Anna displays no SIN and her link is running silent, in the bag.

For a moment Zola looked with a piercing stare at Anna, but replaced it immediately with a genuine smile.
"Charming. A pleasure to meet you Eve. For this evening, you may call me Esteban." He offered Eve his arm and nodded towards his two bodyguards. The smaller one relaxed and took his hand out from inside his jacket, while the tall elf kept a stoic expression on his face.
The four entered the restaurant and Zola pulled out a chair for Eve to sit. The two bodyguards positioned themselves on opposite sides and started to scan the room.
"Please don't mind those two, but for insurance reasons I am required to have a detail with me."
A waiter appeared and Zola stopped himself:
"Ah, Pierre, good to see you. I hope there is still some of that excellent 2066 Chateau la Mes left in your cellar."
"Certainly, Monsieur. I'll be right back." Pierre replied and left them with two gold embossed vellum bound menus.
"I hope you are hungry. The Escargot here is to die for, although I think I'll chance the fish tonight.
So Eve, I hope you like music. A friend of mine has sent me tickets to the symphony and they are playing Bach. I just couldn't miss that."

"Bodyguards to a dinner...  Is he threatened or is another show of wealth." She graces the bodyguards with a quick glance and then positions her look at Esteban.  "I feel your pain." she said with a neutral voice.
Insurance can't live with them can't live without them. So difficult to find a good one. She apologized to Zola and said "I came hungry and I prefer fish."

To Pierre she said "I'll have the Brandade de morue."

Then she comments " Bach you say? Neo classical or full classical? I hope it is full classical - I always wanted to experience these primitive instruments."

Adjusting his rather odd chauffer hat, Kredtov remained stonyfaced and silent, a professional that gave the appearance of one who gave his clients their due privacy.  But his ears were attentive as he let Grid Guide do the driving work, his hands parroting the motions as he mulled Flatline''s question over.  Doing a quick Matrix probe he found a few suit able places to go, and forwarded them in a brief message.

<<She may enjoy talking about herself more, but don't make it more than shallow.  She knows she is hired to be with you, but illusion of date may be fun.  Feel awkward?  Let it be, she will be less prone to talk about it after, but still flatter.  Here find three reputed restaurants and two live shows, and one club.  Tell me which to go and how get there.  This show you know area and have authority.  If stuck, I help>>

In the restaurant, Zola smiled and shook his head: "Nothing primitive about those instruments - primal maybe. From my perspective those instruments are - for the lack of a better word - perfect, just as the music. Neo-classical. The word alone is a contradiction if you apply it to the genius of Bach's works.
I'd never dare to bring a beautiful lady to anything but the pure and unadultered original.

Oh and an excellent choice. I think I'll have the Brandade too, but with sweet potatoes instead of potatoes."

The waiter nodded, filled the glasses and vanished again.

"So tell me a bit about you. What's your passion, what's your dreams?"
While Zola chatted, the spy drone and Anna became aware, that the smaller of the two body guards had begun to stare at Anna, narrowing his eyes.

In the limo, Flatline did as Krestov had advised. The doctor proved to be quite uncomfortable in his role, but the real Eve managed to put him at ease, chatting amiably with him until he finally made up his mind and said: "I hope you like musicals. There is a new-interpretation of cats with a full shapeshifter ensemble - or so they say."
To steady his nerves, Flatline had began to take a drink from the minibar.
Both Krestov and Eve watched with worry how quickly he downed the small whiskey bottle.

“Well I admire anyone who can play an instrument without a computer making the micro adjustments for maximum precision. Though, as much as I admire it, Bach used the Organ which seems very complex and perhaps state of the art for his time.
Though I am a bit biased as I play a digital guitar, it makes countless little corrections as I play so I doubt that I am skilled enough to play classic.”

"So tell me a bit about you. What's your passion, what's your dreams?"

She giggled softly and raised the wine glass, smelling it and then tasting it with her eyes closed.
“Mm... “  she paused “This is indeed a good vintage, almost fruity. I feel happier already.” Grinning she lowers her glass and explains “As you can imagine, I am passionate about wine. My dream is to have a small boutique winyard of my own and to travel the world and market it.“ Smiling she said “Silly dream, I know,  it is a beautiful one, isn’t it?”

She plays with her glass, smells the wine, flirt with it a bit and then takes another sip. It is such a wonderful wine and even if she is busted - Anna intends to at least finish the glass and enjoy it completely. When she opens her eyes, she asks "Esteban, what is your passion in life? Do you have a dream of your own?"

Don't do anything silly. Don't do anything silly. Don't - Just don't!
Growing increasingly nervous, bnc approaches the bodyguards' commlinks in silent mode. Besides, she enlarges the drone feed a bit, then duplicates the ARO, and increases the zoom of the copy so that she can see the bodyguard's face in large. If possible, she arranges the drone in a way that it catches both the guard and Anna, then loads a small app to trace his gaze more exactly, and mark it in her vis feed.

Kite controlled the drones as bnc commanded, providing both a life feed with audio and visual.

Both bodyguards carried expensive Transsys Avalon comlinks, but had their PAN switched to silent mode, so only the main icon was visible.
Whatever the Latino guard (looking it up, this had to be Ramirez, the adept) had seen, he had returned to his normal stance, but still kept a suspicious eye on Anna.

Meanwhile, Zola answered Anna:
"Fascinating. I used to play cello, but nowadays I find it hard to make time for more than the most fundamental practice. But it certainly helps to focus one's mind - and there are certain entities in this world who react favorably to melody and tact. But I digress.

Yes, the simple life of being a small entrepreneur - I most certainly feel the appeal myself. But alas, I took responsibility for many employees instead.
Oh, you like to ask the hard questions, don't you? Once upon a time I'd have said women, song and fine wine. Chalk it up to the inexperience of youth. And if age hasn't made me much wiser, it certainly has given me perspective. My passion is the arcane - the transcendental flow of energies, that keep this world together. Not a particularly good passion to keep you social life going, but I find it most rewarding nonetheless."

Anna smiled at Esteban, trying to mask her surprise. How can one likes the arcane more than he likes to slot?
If so, why don't he just rent a mage to study with? Perhaps he is just showing off the mage card to impress the ladies?
She felt so underwhelmed in comparison. Sure Anna knew a bit on the topic herself - but passionate about it?
No freaking way. Magic was difficult and she could not even commit to a specific a tradition.
She liked shamanic magic and did not understand the scientific approach to magic.  So she was not completely lost - but
as Anna saw it - some techniques worked for her and others not so. The entire thing was an exploration. Trying to understand it all seemed complex and unnecessary. Definitely more of a chore than a passion, "the man is probably 10 times the mage I'll ever be." she thought.

"Women song and fine wine... I could understand. I mean you still seem to like these things but Arcane ?! How does a senior manager embraces such an unusual hobby?"

"You are mistaken to think a real passion can be a mere hobby. In my understanding a passion is the consuming central part of your life. Consequently I made the arcane part of my job. We still know so little about the rules and mechanics of magic. The possibilities are nearly endless and while mundane science has reached levels where only incredibly narrow focused specialists can find any meaningful secrets, the arcane still offers low hanging fruit for anyone who dares to venture on the path of knowledge.
Also I'm a magi myself in addition to being a senior manager. Evenings like this are treat for me - a way to ground myself in reality. Work - no matter if passion or not - oftentimes makes you lose sight of what you are in favor of what you do."

Zola sipped from his wine, after having spoken with such fiery intensity.

Despite the sunglasses, Anna could see the elf bodyguard roll his eyes behind his boss' back. The other guard gave him a withering look in response.

Meanwhile Krestov had maneuvered the large car through Seattle's traffic towards the theater. By now Flatline had downed two small bottles of vodka. True, he was less nervous now, but Eve did have a skeptical look on her face now and was eyeing the taxi stands outside.

bnc shifts some switches. An automatic voice-to-text-translation software now records everything Krestov's says and transfers it to text. This way, it's way easier to keep track of both situations simultaneously. She muted the thread to focus on Anna and Zola. She doublechecks that every word and every gesture is recorded, and waits, hoping her services would this time not be needed.

Krestov did his best to keep his stony expression as he tried to guide Flatline through the date, though the amount of alcohol consumed caused him worry.  His face tightened as he mentally sent his communication to the man behind him

<<Need to relax.  Don't forget, she hired for date, not actual date.  She meant to entertain you, and look like not happening.  Flatter her looks and enjoy yourself.

...Flatline, want honesty.  Have backup idea to Dave date without Laes, but need approval for you to tag out.  Tell me if I need step in>>

<<@bnc: Understood.  Working on it now>>
