I'm planning to implement some sort of air glider/jump pack combination and I need help to tune it in terms of price, Avail, stats etc. So far it's two models and both are very preliminary.

Ares Raven Personal Airglider
You're not flying, you're falling - with style. The ARPA consists of a pair of folding wings a character can use to glide through the air, along with Gecko tape gloves. Specialised for use in urban environment at shorter distances they are extremely quick to deploy or fold in. Either of these require a Simple Action. While gliding in this fashion the character only falls 10 meters during the first round, and 15 in the subsequent rounds and travels horizontally up to 20 meters or 30 meters, respectively. She takes 1/3 of the normal falling damage. In order to land in a specific spot, the character must make a Free-fall + Agility [physical] (4) test or else scatter just like a grenade with 2d6 scatter dice. To land safely she must succeed in a Gysmnastics + Agility [Physical] (4) test. Failure means she takes falling damage reduced by the number of hits.

Ares Reaper Flykit
The Reaper is used by Black Ops, bounty hunters, Swat teams and the like for fast paced chases and combats in urban and cliffy environments. It is essentially an ARPA module with compact, integrated jump packs. In addition to the benefits of the Raven model, this pretty girl allows you to make massive jumps, which in game terms counts as giving you 8 hits for a jumping test, vertical or horizontal. If you want to jump with your legs with the assistance of the jump pack, that's fine too. The hits generated from the booster pack stack with those you roll on your test and the character is of course not limited by her Agility for this purpose. If the wings are deployed during the jump the distance the character can jump is multiplied by 1.5. Instead of jumping the boosters can be used to keep you soaring while the wings are deployed. This means you do not fall at all and can even gain altitude at a rate of 3 meters per round. A jump can be performed as a Simple action and the wings can be deployed in the same action. The Reaper has enough fuel for five "jumps" or ten rounds of soaring.

As you might have guessed this is made mostly because I think it's cool and not the most useful, but perhaps it can be handy when combined with Parkour and jumping between rooftops.

EDIT: Since English isn't my native language, there might be a few grammatical errors, bad wordings etc. If you come up with a better or more correct way of expressing the description, please inform me :)

There was a glider in SR4 which could be equipped with an engine letting you glide horizontally for a while (10km action radius? I forget), could serve as inspiration. It was in WAR! if I recall correctly?
How am I not part of the forum?? O_O I am both active and angry!

Rocking idea. Reminds me of Minority Report. Why not?
This is a seriously cool way for non-adept snipers to gain mobility.
Brad: We're gonna be bodyguards for teen rock-stars.
Schlock: Wouldn't the cause of freedom be better served if we killed them instead?

Thanks ^^

I found it, but it seems more like a way of overland transportation than the quick and agile model I had in mind. Nonetheless it's useful input, and I'll draw inspiration from it.

At a speed of 100 meters per Combat Turn (which basically is 90 ahead, 30 down), and something you can maneuver with using Free-Fall, I'd consider it rather quick and agile. :) All you have to do to use it is spread your arms and legs.

The Wingsuit is what I believe Michael is talking about, and if you want a decent example of what it would be like, check the second Tomb Raider movie, when they use it to jump off a skyscraper. Works wonders for what it is designed to do.

As for the general idea of something that goes in a backpack, you can check out this thread of mine from three years ago where I thought of about the same thing:

I have done this for my current table in two ways. First is a wingsuit that allows gliding, using freefall skill. Character using it got cyber legs and modified the heel spike to be rocket motors allowing powered flight for ten combat turns (1 minutes), and requires 1 combat turn to reload with a fresh set of motors. Second is a stripped down Ares nightwing that now is a backpack that plugs into his datajack for control and into his legs for power from batteries installed in his legs. The nightwing backpack uses the same stats as the ultralight, but requires a simple action to control due to hands being the control surfaces. Hope this information helps you.
Spooky, what do you do this pass? Shoot him with my thunderstruck gauss rifle. (Rolls)  8 hits. Does that blow his head off?

Reminds me of Star Frontiers' "Glijet"  (cross between a jumpack and a parawing)

On a side note, if you want to get a feel of what a jetpack might be like, check out the water jet pack.

Starting to catch on in more than a few waterparks.
