I've recently decided to dive back into Shadowrun (2050 Woot!), and I checked out the TVTropes page. It describes 4th edition as "Lighter and Softer" than the predecessors. Having read a fair amount of the newer work, I call BS on that.
Even excluding the fantastic elements, the tech terrifies me. Any number of governments and/or corporations can scan you on a regular basis down to your last meal. Horizon encourages their folks to add skillsoft links that (If I read correctly) can download moodchips into you if the situation warrants.
I have issues with 4th edition (ie. homogenization of magic), but I love the flavor. Kudos all 'round on that.
You probably shouldn't expect further glowing praise; I- like many others on the Internets- am a born critic.
